whats with this summer threat...

I keep hearing about?

do you guys think we will get hit with something of a WMD this summer? do you think the Olympics are a major target?

I thought the summer threat was about more Bob Dole/Mark Martin Viagra commercials. :)
Or maybe WMD is Hugh's new projects and were all going to get hit with a Weomen of MarylanD Playboy edition around mid-July.

Granted that I will be more vigilant in staying aware of my surroundings, otherwise I'm going to live my life as normally as possible.

It looks like the threat being pushed by the administration and in the news is off of year old intel, as for the summer games, considering where they are being hled, the effectiveness of the home grown greek terrorist groups and the lack of security the greeks are prepareing I think you can expect an attack

While listening to talk radio on the way to work this morning (570 KLIF am) they indicated the most serious threat was Houston, TX as this is the center of oil production in the U.S. *and* the home of the Bush family.

Hmm good point, Houston is also a HUGE city. I can think of half a dozen other large refinery centers in the US. The issue is, there is too much to attack and no where near enough resource to protect anything. The only net we have is intelligence and border control. I know they are already here apparently. Probably some of the ones released from Guantanamo.

Its so hard to say who could get hit...I mean every city has something that would make it an attractive target.
I Think if the terroists really wanted to terroize the avg US citizen they would attack a power plant somewhere in the suburbs of a big city. using nukes...but i dont think they have the man power or the firepower.

Coming from a military intelligence background, I can't give my evaluation of actual "soft" targets, because I really know what those soft targets are, and understand the national impact of their potential compromise/destruction.

In light of this though, and according to the television rating, the best target to hit would be the local cable companies when American Idol is about to come on. :)

they've been in this country for a few years. they've had plenty of time to accuire supplys such as the hi-jacked tanker truck of liquid fertilizer in paterson nj in 2001. plenty of things can be bought off the shelf in quantities small enough not to attract attention and accumulated. theyve had plenty of time to build improvised devices along with whats been smuggled in. i think there's a good chance we'll see it this summer. we'd all better keep our eyes and ears open.

I've been thinking that we may be in a new era of McCarthyism. What do you guys think?

I mean...I'm thinking I should have radiation pills, gas masks, guns, water and food supplies, a secret underground shelter, etc. Yes, it sounds a little extreme....but with a family I wouldn't want to leave anything to chance.

Let me guess, they'll try to do nothing, since nothing seems to create more panic then anything.

Why would they attack, when the plans have been spoiled?
