I personally didn't know where to to put this question of mine so I thought here would be fine. Is there a way to have a program automaticlly start up on an usb storage drive? I'm not talking about when I boot up my computer but when I just plug-and-play it<when my computer is already on>. Thanx

You need an autorun file on your USB drive, Just like the ones off of CD's.
hey ghost i could not get your answer i thought to boot off a usb drive i need to go to my cmos and change the boot sequecnce, i may be wrong , but would you plz be kind enough to clarify my query??

he wants to auto starty a program on the drive.. not boot the computer from the drive..
We have had this discussion before. A 2600 issue had an article about it a while back.
I think there was even a lengthy discussion about this on the Full Disclosure list.
It would seem that it depends on which flash drive you have and which drivers are loaded for it.
Most of the time you will need a thrid party tool to recognize when flash media has been inserted. Then that utility will look for and launch the auto file.
I've tried with all of my flash media. (And I have quite a few different brands and sizes) and I was unable to get any of them to autolaunch. The most I could do was to get it to change the icon that represents the "removable drive" in windows explorer.
If anyone knows otherwise... please post the solution. It would be very handy to be able to use autorun files with usb flash. I can think of at least hundreds of uses.

Autorun.inf files are not supported under Microsoft Windows XP for drives that return DRIVE_REMOVABLE from GetDriveType.
