i don't want anyone...not even my g/f or any friend or enemy for that matter tracking my every move let alone an official agency. who here would not be offended if your signicant other asked you to list everywhere you went everytime you went out even if you had nothing to hide?

when you consider most serious crimes are commited with stolen cars, where the crime is committed before the car is reported stolen and bombers use rented vehicles the only purpose this could serve is to track the average citizen. and wouldn't this encourge the murder of vehicle owners to keep the car from being reported stolen longer?

this would also hold true for peace rallys, book signings, lectures, abortion clinics, gay bars, AA and NA meetings and just about any gathering where it's noboy's buisness if you were there or not.

encryption is something i dont know much about so i could very well be wrong here but if you have a chip sending out a unique id wouldn't that transmission be the same every time it's read encryped or not? so what's to prevent an...i don't know...lets say an employer from geting a receiver and matching up an encrypted id with your car's plate and keeping track of your commings and goings. or a pricate concern from assembling a data base matching encrypted id's with an address much the same way vans drive around and record what tv chanel everyone is watching at what time.

to me this is an outrage!

It's the age...everytime you use a card...health, social insurance, credit, bank, etc...what you eat, where you shop, what ails you, how much gas you consume, etc...records your life for others to see...
this is the further extension of that...just like the post I made on RIFD tracking of UK workers....where they're expected to wear bracelets on their wrist to track their activities...

it's a brand new world out there...and I've got a feeling it's going to get alot worse before it gets better.

All true ....... they would only need to get the ID bit, the rest is irrelevent, as they would be able to track purely from that snippet if data in the stream.

Plus, if memory serves, the 'cracking' of the German's Enigma machine, was helped enormously, by one long message that was being intercepted, the reply was short, [it was deduced that the reply was along the lines of 'missed that, please re-transmit']
the message was re-sent, the ability to cross check two messages 'known' to be the same gave Bletchley Park quite a lift..........
And with todays computer power, how much quicker is ANY de-cryption going to be ?

i saw online some where plans for one using the electrolytic capacitors/condensors (what year is this anyway?) from disposable cameras to create an emp burst. if allot of these chips started breaking down it might not prove to be such a worth while plan.

i drive a toll road twice a day and would rather (and do) wait in the cash line as opposed to zipping threw with a state issued transponder (EZpass). its just GP, im only going back and forth to work so its not that im trying to hide something but these plates dont give anyone that option.

shopping...i usually pay cash. withdawing it from an ATM machine before i buy anything and never use discount cards. i really dont think it's a good idea to have someone keeping a record of what i do. isn't it my right to think and behave this way? or must everyone that behaves this way be labeled a paranoid nut thereby negating his/her rights. i dont think there's a big brother conspiracy happening but if we allow these devices to be put in place the chances are too good that a big brother will come along.

these rfid's will in no way help defend the nation and unlike the patriot act this action does not need to be re-newed ever few years. it's permanent!

No....I agree...I personally have no credit cards, don't issue checks ( even though I do have a checking account ), rarely use the ATM card ( emergency use only ), and refuse to purchase anything on the Net...

so...I can appreciate not giving big brother a helping hand in taking notes on your life...but...I can see the day coming where that won't be possible.

We are becoming a direct deposit society and eventually the government will phase out the cost of producing money altogether in favor of cards...then you won't have a choice to pay cash...there won't be any.

I have the perfect EMP generator. A drill. Which is what I would use. I didn't support the huge spending of Ronald Reagan to have the socialist empire come here.

But I can see why they would want to put them on plates. The small rfid tags only broadcast a little. And when you are pulled over you can have the plates autenticated. But who cares. Fact is, they are in a computer now. In fact many places record your car plates via camera. Government places that is. Ever notice cameras at car parks aimed down? They are tagging your plate while you get a ticket. ;) Although it's not used unless there is an "event" that warrents suspician.

Peace all. Hey wait! I bet there is an rfid tag on some part somewhere in the car already? Considering suppliers are requiring them, however I will take a drill. I am not even sure an EMP burst will take one out. Some are passive until acted on by a scanner.

//EDIT You will also find plate scanners at toll roads near sensitive areas. Look around next time plopping your guarter through the gate. They can be triggered to snap a pic when the gate goes up or just scan at intervals since you are stopped for a second it's enought to record the plate number. Have a nice day. ;)

Why dont they just make gps standard in every car.
tracking every move of every driver is nonsense.

Just like the traffic intersection cameras that we had to take pictures of people who run red lights.
Virginia stopped funding them because the cost to use/maintain was more than the benefit.

I think the main thing in the case of cameras at intercections is deterrent...I remember reading once where a state made cardboard cutouts of crusiers and placed these cutouts alongside roadways with heavy traffic and significantly reduced accidents in those areas.

Sometimes it's to generate income and in some cases public safety.
