Help! Can't get past boot screen

Hi!
I have recently decided to reinstall my windows XP, after it is done I can't get into windows:
I have installed Stardock's bootskin to change the image of the boot screen (http://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/)
The system can't get pass the boot screen... it restarts every time the boot screen loads

I am looking for a way to fix it or a way get into command prompt without getting into windows so that i can get my files before i format the drive...

Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Try booting in safe mode by pressing F8 whilst the PC is booting up, let us know what happens!

I can't go safe mode either it has to go through the boot screen....

If you have the Winxp cd, you have the repair console..

.. if all you want is your files.. use a Live OS Cd.. like Knoppix, BartCD, UBCD.. and copy your files to a Jump drive or to CD..

Question...did you use StyleXP, some other program, or do it by hand?

If you used StyleXP or another program similar, there should have been a backup made of your boot ini and your ntoskrnl should still be intact.

Like Und3ertak3r said, use an XP cd to get into the repair console. Look for a backup copy of the boot.ini and restore it. StyleXP names it boot.bkk. If you did it by hand, I couldn't tell you what to do there.

Sounds to me you are experencing a BSOD but it reboots as told by windows xp, because it is set by default. Do you have a second computer at hand if so slave the hard drive and remove the files you need or get ahold of Kanotics (am I spelling this right?) this is a linux OS CD. you can boot from this to transfer files. Fist thing I would do is find out what the BSOD says so you can determine if its OS related or Hardware related.

No Kanotics is another form of Knoppix. This one supports NTFS files. Knoppix is good also but I dont believe it has the support for NTFS. But anyho hope that helps.

Hmm...okay, I'll have to look into that. Wasn't aware knoppix couldn't read NTFS partitions.

Edit: Do you mean read or write NTFS? I don't think they have a kernal that supports NTFS writes yet.

Sorry its Kanotix and you can find it here www.kanotix.com and I believe it supports the ablilty to read and write. I've got it on cd and use it when I need to transfer files over the internet when I can't boot to Windows.
