my sound is weird!

So here I am, once again, with a problem. The sound on my computer is messed up. When I try to watch a DVD, some of the sounds are normal, but some (like some conversation) is really quiet. Why is this?

What sound card have you got?

What speaker setup?

What does it do with a regular music CD?

What player are you using?

Is the DVD a regular original recording (store bought)?

Creative 5.1 surround (even though I've never been able to get surround sound to work)

It plays all music (CDs, mp3s, etc.) fine. No problems.

I've tried a number of players, from the ones that DVDs come bundled with (InterActual, PCFriendly), to WM, Core Media player, just about anything I can get my hands on.

Lastly, yes, it is store bought (although any sort of DVD rip has the same problems). And it's not just one DVD, it's ALL DVDs.

Can you try it with two PC speakers?

When you say it plays CDs OK is this in the DVD drive?

You might try cleaning the drive, but it sounds like the drive may be slightly out in its scanning. Can you borrow a different one or try it in another computer?

But it also happens with DVD rips. Do I maybe need a new sound card?

Hmmm, is it a chipset on the motherboard, or a separate card?

See if you can borrow a card, a PCI or something will do and try that.

If you have a chipset on the mobo remember to switch it off in the BIOS.

Also check your sound and media settings to see what devices are selected, and check for the latest drivers for your sound card/chipset

I'm not sure where I would go to update my soundcard. I believe it's a chipset .

What is the make and model of your computer, or if it is a custom build the make and model of the motherboard.
