im in san antonio texas right now with my aunt for spring break
my god
the internet here is faster then T1 in illinois
and this is cable internet
just did a bandwith check
1.8 megabits persec
t1 is rated at 1.51
the average for texas was 1.91
this is outstanding
and since i might be moving here il have something to look foward too haha
how about you other texans... hows ur connections
and how do u like the area
well i have DSL now and its rated 1.2 but i remember when ii had comcast cable and did a test it was 1.5....1.8 is nice...
i have comcast at home now... i get 700k download on a good day...
and whats the speed you download there in texas ?

I'm not sure... but 1.8 doesn't seem overly impressive to me..
I just ran a test on bandwidthplace.com and the results were

When you get a 700K download at home.. if that's 700K on the IE or Firefox download bar that's 700KB not Kb... bytes... not bits..
So for comparison sake.. I just ran a test on dslreports
As you can see the speed is much lower... nothing has changed except the server I'm testing against... I'm going to run a third before I post this.. (not that it matters to you... you'll see them all at once)Quote:

And now to prove that speeds vary... I justdownloaded Defender Beta 2 from microsoft.com (since the download link was on the main page)... I hit over 2000KB/s (Yes that's bytes.. not bits)... with high speed it's all relative to the server you're accessing..Quote:

I was gonna say maybe he confused Megabits and Megabytes.....
no the 700k is kilobits, i run the same test at home every now and then
i average 100k download speed in IE and FF... thats using the server HEAnet from sourceforge..
here i was getting 800k... highly impressive on my end
on my cable line at home you cant surf the web and use xbox live without noticing a difference
here... no lag at all... love it... absolutely love it...
100k download with cable is realllyyyyy slow, when i had comcast it started out with 1000 kilobytes and slowed down to a steady 600.....
A coworker in the Dallas area get's a Fibre line from Verizon to his house. Nothing special, no extra-uber isp account or anything, just one of their broadband packages. Something like 17Mb. F$cking unreal. :(
We have Comcast Cable here at 6Mbps (for $40 a month). The Verizon Fios (fiber) is nice, but the prices are way higher than cable ( http://www22.verizon.com/FiOSForHome...t/package.aspx )...
I don't think there's anything special about it... Other countries offer way higher speeds for way less money :/
