Hey all
This is the scenario.
At the end of the year our company goes on leave. However I still need to do tech support emails.
The old techie used VNC to VNC into the office from home.
I suggested creating a VPN so I can VPN from hom to here.
Is there anyway I can do this?
I have no idea how to do this.
Can anyone help me out.
If you need to know what hardware or whatever please let me know.

You have VNC open to the world from your office??? Wow... I'd highly advise against that.
As for the VPN... it is highly dependent one a couple of things:
1) What you have
2) What you can spend
Many "home routers" can act as a VPN end-point. Windows Servers can act as a VPN end-point. Cisco PIX / ASA, etc, etc, etc.
OK , Where / how do I Close the VNC down?
We running exchange 2007 here.
I have a normal router at home.

Sorry to jump in - I like the way this is progressing. I've never set up VPN so hope to get some good ideas here.
I suggest a google search on VPN,..usually used to connect 2 sites over the internet or public line...opposed to dropping a private cable between the 2 sites.....which would be very costly in most situations
AFAIK...VNC is an open source remote desktop application...
As stated before....all depends on what you are planning to do.

if you have windows server 2000 or 2003 you can enable routing and remote access to work as your vpn server then forward the ports for pptp through your firewall to that servers IP then use microsofts builtin client to connect to pptp just be careful cuz you can block out access to the server if you do it wrong then you have to start over again. If you have a cisco firewall you can enable cisco vpn witch is far superior sonicwall has this as well but i beleave you have to add a license to do it.

Mostly I am going to do abit of file transfer + check email. That is about it.

If you have VMware, you may want to try Janus VM. It is used for making a VPN that utilizes tor, but you may be able to use it to do what you want.
I use Hamachi. It is probably the simplest solution. The forums would probably answer any email configuration questions you have but setup is extremely simple. I use it for filesharing and to tunnel to my home PC from hotspots with my laptop in conjunction with FreeProxy for secure surfing.
