Assemblage of a Newbie FAQ

Hello Everyone...

In my short time as a member at AntiOnline's forums I have noticed alot of redundant threads...I thought it would be a good idea to create a "Newbie FAQ" out of post's from AO members.

Some of the topics that the FAQ could cover would be:

Port Numbers
Subnet Masks
IP Addressing
Firewall Programs
DOS Usage
IP Spoofing
Telnet Use
FTP Use
File & Printer Sharing

I have currently been skimming through the forum, gathering posts on these subjects. I think by having an FAQ like this would free up time spent responding to repetitive posts.

I wanted to know what other members thought about this idea.. and if they have any topics they would like to add.

Since these people obviously have a very basic knowledge in hacking, and no respect for it, I say we mess with them. We need a reverse-trojan type thing to give them, so it plants itself on their computer instead of their indended victim's. That should teach them a lesson.:firedevil

I had planned on starting the FAQ with a post by Kapperdog which addresses the "how do i hack hotmail" type questions.

I will add some of those topics in :)

stflook...The purpose of this FAQ was not to prey on a user's lack of knowledge. My intent is to educate! :)

I don't want to prey on their lack of knowledge. I want to nail them for their lack of respect for what they're doing. Sometimes learning it the hard way is the more effective way of learning it. They have to learn respect somehow, don't they?

I believe we had a miscommunication..I now see from your second post that your first post was directed toward the "script kiddie" (punishing them for their lack of respect). The quote above led me to believe you were talking about the general user who is interested in trojans.

The FAQ that I am assembling will not include answers to questions such as "How do I hack someone using Sub7?" I believe these types of questions are , again , addressed in Kapperdog's well written post (Which will start the FAQ). The information in the FAQ regarding trojans will be about protecting against, discovery of,removal, and general legitimate use of Trojans.

I hope we have cleared up our miscommunications :)

Hey, Simon... lets draw JParker into this, he's trying to make an AO magazine of sorts (I/O Mag)...

Want me to pretty up and revise that subnet-mask tutorial that I posted a while ago? I assume this will be all-original FAQ. Just let me know if there are any sections I can help out with.

2) and one question from my side to u

" how and what one should study or read inorder to become a good computer wizard/programmer "?

3) what do u mean by ICQ and MIRC.

Great idea Simon. Keep us updated on this - I'm sure that there are a few people on here that wouldn't mind filling in some of the empty (or lacking) topics including me.

Simon: A great idea:idea: A little more organization on the site would really help out. Esp. those like myself who are here to learn and not to harm. To: most of you folks keep up the great answers to the posts. :)

Im not too sure intruder but I think youre a member of www.lameindustries.org if you havent seen the tutorials there then I recommend any newbie to visit NOW.

To Everyone: The format in which I had planned to organize was like this:

[A Common Question (Example: "How Do I remove a trojan?") ]

[Informative posts from AO Members with their name at the bottom]

If everyone thinks that it would be more beneficial to create this as an original FAQ and just quote or paraphrase sources then I will do that? Just let me know which would be better.

I honestly hadn't thought of writing an original FAQ because of the time involved. But if that is what everyone thinks would be more benefical to newbies..then I'm all for it. :thumbsup:

Hello Everyone...I'm working on an outline that I will be following to create the FAQ... But what I am lacking is an Unix Section!

If there is a Unix Guru who doesn't mind taking on the part of creating a section for Unix Newbies or giving me an outline to follow! I would be much appreciated :)

I remember someone trying to do this kind of thing for the usenet group alt.2600.hackerz. Well, lets just say it took on a life of it's own and it's STILL not finished!:D Quit a large job you've taken on there, Simon, but if you fell you're up to it good luck! If I can help in anyway just let me know............

Nice outline - I think you have covered just about all the common stuff. You should probably put a quick section on virii before the trojan section. While on the topic, an even smaller section on worms could be put in there too.

Also a question "What is an IP mask?" under IP adresses section.

If you want me to tackle any explanations, I'd be happy to.

Hello I just thought I would post an update on how I am coming along...


:) First though let me say a few things...

:thumbsup: Thank You, Intruder...although this is suppoed to be a security related FAQ... I think that it would be a good idea to have a links section for operating systems. Good Suggestion!

EVERYONE is here to learn (even the "gurus")..We all need help in somethings and we all ask what is considered "stupid" or "boring" questions, so don't ask for forgiveness! Just make sure when you ask questions, that you have at least looked into the subject your posting about. I think what gets the "Gurus" mad is people who post questions that could have been easily answered if they did a little research on their own. So..in short..don't ask for forgiveness for wanting to learn...their is not ONE person on this forum who is not here to learn.

:) Third..(Where I am in the assemblage of the FAQ)

I am currently in the Firewall section of the FAQ...I still have to pretty up the tutorials written by AO members though. I'm using M$ Word to write this (right now at least) because it is easy to format the tutorial with all the indentation I'm using..not only that but I've been color coding, to seperate AO Member tutorials from questions and other content. When I am done I will put it in HTML format and maybe try PDF as well. (The Tutorial is currently 23 pages long - WOW - those AO member tutorials were long :) )

When I finish the first main section "General Security Questions" I will post the word document for viewing on my site...That way if anyone has questions, comments or suggestions.

:D Thanks to all those who have and are contributing to this FAQ, I appreciate it!

If you mak an operating system section it should be about the security holes, fixes, problems, and comands that are common with each op system.:D

I was curious if anyone had any good original tutorials for the FAQ on either:

Exploits
Trojans
Trojan Removal
Virii
Worms

Etc..

If you do I would appreciate it (It would also save me ALOT of time), if not then I guess I will have to sit down and write a some. :)

Please make sure they are your own work, and if you have used information from outiside sources, site them.

Also anymore good virii, trojan, and worm links would be useful..Thanks :)

I am no UBER user, yet I beleive Simon has a great idea. I will always maintain a firm belief in this quote: , "There is no such thing, as a stupid question". Simon's suggestion covers this frame of thinking well! Filter out the stupidity, that will immediately bogg down the forum, and you will find many people that will forget about being too embarrased to ask, the most rudimentary questions. In my mind the word "NooB", is an Oxymoron. Moron, being the functional term. Was anyone born into the inner workings of a system? I think we were all new at one time or another, I still feel new.

You never stop learning, at least I hope not! Remember, knowledge is power, and any new thing you learn is knowledge!

Perhaps I am only an observer in my posts, yet I learn from each and every one of them , good or bad.

I could do this for Netbus/BO/SubSeven and the ilk, at least pertaining to Windows 9x systems. (NT? Dunno.)

Greetings: I have found personally that TDS3, even in it's evaluation form, is a well written prog. It is a Web Pro Tool, as they like to call it... hehe. A trial version is available at www.wilders.org Dont forget to D-load the key, it is a separate zip.file.

covering introduction , security and protection...
if u want i can post them for the FAQ. but that is not the original i lso have downloaded from some site but i don't know which site i forgot.
