Unknown Caller
Ok my mother keeps on getting calls with unkown caller on the caller id of course you can't *69 them because of that. The phone calls are driving her crazy, someone calls and ether hangs up or will stay on the line until someone answers. She can't get any sleep because of this and she gets about 40 calls a night. (annoying as hell)
My question is there away to call that person, or take off the unkown caller so I can *69 them. Even if there is a way to get the phone number I could at least call the phone company and have that person arrested. If any one knows of away they could help me out alot.
-
Have your mother report it to her phone company. Get her to explain the problem and I brlieve the phone company will take it from there, they are the ones that can trace the calls.
-
Trust me that's what's going to happen this weekend is the person keeps it up. But is there away that I could trace the number, or find out what number the ***** is using. Will the phone company let us know who's doing it or will they keep it annoyoumus.
-
I think although am not sure that if someone is found to be making abusive calls the company will not keep them anonymous.
These people are just sad weirdos, and Im sorry for your troubles FreeOn it happened to my best friends home and the guy was never caught.
-
If caller ID and *69 aren't doing you any good, I think your fubared. Why wait for the weekend? if this guy is being a *****, do it now!! Like I said, the phone company is in a better position to track this guy down. They may also have some suggestion on what can be done to prevent it.
Stick with the phone company idea, they can do it and it's legal for them, you start pissing around and that might get you in ****.
-
Yeah I'm going to stick with that Idea I don't need to be getting in trouble for messing around with the phonecompany. I have to wait because I won't see her till this weekend, I live downtown Des Moines and she lives about 2 1/2 hours away.
But I'll pass this info to her. She's already got veritape but she's had that forever. She was looking at programs for the computer that might help identify unkown callers.
-
Well I'll have a look for some prog's, but I believe they will work on the same principal as caller ID.
Hope you and your mother get this issue closed.
-
Veritape only records phonecalls it's a great program that pops up on the computer when ever the phone rings. It aks you if you would like to record the phonecall, you can also playback messages for another caller.

I can tell you exactly who it is. . . its telemarketers. . . Their computers automaticlly call a number and if they aren't ready they hang up. I get about 10 or 12 a day. I cant imagine 40 a day. Geez. If you stay on the line long enough to get someone on the other end, ask to be put on their DO NOT CALL list. It works. Hope I was of some help to you. :D
-
I don't think that it's telemarketers who are going to be calling from 12:00pm- 5:00am that doesn't make sense at all. But it's a possiblilty. I'm still looking for a way to identify unknown callers.

bust out the user manual for your caller id. I promise you, that if it is even half-way decent, there will be a page in there describing to you how to ignore calls that cannot be traced.
this will work, if your phone has this option. If it does, tell anyone you want to talk to that may call you from a cell phone, to turn on the 'Send My ID with this number' option in their cell phone, or their call will be ignored also.
OverandOut.

Ah HA! I just remembered. . . you can contact your phone company and tell them to block unknown callers. My friend works for Sprint & he was going to do this for me, but then I wouldn't have been able to recieve calls from a good friend of mine because he has a Private number. [police] Try that!
-
freeOn call the local phone company they will put a trace on the line but they wont tell you who's calling they will report it to the police who will contact the people who are doing this. i know i work for phone company.also i think you have to sign papers giving them the ok hope this helps:)
-
ok
yeah well thanks for the info thor, that's cool that I got someone who works for the phone company.I'm going to dig around for the caller id manual, and then pass this info onto my mom. probably . And block all callers who don't have caller id on, as well as notify the phonecompay.

Hey..
FreeOn, You can block your phone from unidentified callers, and.. if your [unidentified] friend wants to call, he just has to dial *82, to be an identified caller..

I would say that it is most likely an automated telemarketing service. My reason being: I worked for one(blah). It was my first year in school and I needed money. Ok this is what happens. The telemarketing network has a set list of numbers that it calls. Often they have one computer terminal that is set up with "dead" return numbers. Your mothers number may have been placed on this log if she hasn't responded to the calls. What this service does will check these number many times a day. If they get a busy signal they will place the number back on an active list because they received a signal that the number is working. Now this may be the problem. They may have her on the "dead" log and an active log. What the dialer will do is try to resolve the problem and just start hitting the number over and over until it gets a result. Now as for the time that they are calling, that could as simple as the terminals time is off. They are set up to call during a specified time but if the time is off then it doesnt know any better and will continue calling. My caller ID does a blocking service for all unidentified calls unless the caller has the one digit pin, the problem is some telemarketing services will follow a call with a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0 sequence to get past the block. The best thing to do is alert the phone company and request a block from the number which may very well be more than one. Or get the number from the phone company, contact the telemarketing firm and request that your number is removed and ask for a writting reply stating that it was removed. This is when they realize you mean bussiness and they will stop, also if they continue you have an excellent harassment charge against them. I hope this was some help. Peace. Digi
