But compared to linux it sucks, lol
XP is XPlosive...XPressive...not to mention it's quite an XPerience.
Runs like Crap on my P.O.S. box.:p
XPENSIVE from what I hear...
XPentium three or 4 is needed....
Yeah I agree, it's expensive and not as reliable as we're being told. I had to restart twice in one night when I was using it at a friend's place. The only reason it supposed to be soooo realiable is because previous efforts were all so crap. Reliable, schmiable...
Overall I'm not impressed
:p
Now I guess XP would be kind of appealing in a strange exotic non natural kind of way to those used to be hippies who went to one of those drug allowing computer training bootcamps and got a job on the cornor at fix it joes electronic stores that also repairs old 386's.
You know who you are.. Those people who actually are turned on by lil happy faces doing bad things :umph:
:spank:
heh.. just kidding.. had to put my piece...
Hippies..
Sorry It's not here anymore....
True, but Microsoft shouldn't force the hardware so you can get the software.Quote:

Can you honestly defend Microsoft after all they have forced its market to put up with over the years. Maybe XP is great etc. etc. but why did everyone have to wait until 2001 to get their hands on a decent Windows OS, well Microsoft certainly dont care. They have fooled so many it's almost funny.
Linux is pretty solid and no Windows lover can deny this however Windows is solid and any Linux lover can deny this.

No Im no Windows basher.

Man.. Just admit it.. Windows is great for the newbie.. but for those who have a passion for their computers (Im gunna marry mine and have many lil computer children ) really know that putting windows on a pc is like putting your pc in a trash compactor.. Only lasts so long.. then.. CRASH.. (heh and im using windows me) hahahahahaha :umph:Quote:

And yes despite popular belief some Windows users do love computers. There are Windows experts you know and enthuasists.

I wish that Mr. Gates would just stop for awhile and let us get use to one system at a time. And the petium thing is getting out of hand just lissin to the songs by weard al off his Running with Scissors CD. Funny ass **** and soo true. I upgraded my system so many computer so many times, I could use the extra Parts to build a nother one. **** Give me a computer that has it all the bad ass video cards the cool ass sound card the Wide screen TV screen and the soft ware comes with all the upgrades and presecured not just leave all the ports open so everyone can come in. I would leave microsoft for a nother OS but **** I ran out of money allready.
computers will never be perfect because they are made by humans.

Cept for the F00KiN manual.. which costs as much as windows does........... But bless linux.. one day it will teach microsoft white collar slaves that the public can create its own ver of a os that runs just as good on older tech,........Quote:

How is linux unreliable?Quote:
I thought that's where the very unrealiable, unsecure, and not compatible with anything Linux came from. But obviously if you don't have the hardware you shouldn't get the software.
How is linux unsecure?
How is linux not compatible with anything?
Any chance of elaborating on this?Quote:
Windows Xp eats up linux and spits it out for your dog's breakfeast. (hehehehehe)
Contrary to your previous statements?Quote:
I happen to like Linux and still do.
Just kidding.
I've tried XP on a friends computer. It's one of the better OS's M$ has done in a long time. However, I have high doubts about it being able to "eat up Linux and spit it out." You see, even my friends computer has crashed already. My Linux machine has never crashed. Granted, I do upgrade/change my system every now and then, but for extended use, my system has been much more stable than any Windows machine I have ever run. I remember people touting Win2k when it first came out. I also remember 6 months later seeing a lot of disgruntled admins/users complaining about system (in)stability. Give it time.... XP will start showing it's true colors a few months down the road.
Happy Hacking

Why all the fuss over WinXP? What ever happened to the good ol` reliable, stable and also easy to find on warez sites everywhere.....Win2k?
I know there are security issues, but they are easily Fixable.
How did i make myself look like i know nothing about linux? I asked you to back up some of your claims, which you didn't - and i look like i know nothing!!
Its quite obviously you who know's nothing freeOn, although thats not entirely true - you do know how to waste a lot of peoples time by exposing them to the constant stream of **** you routinely spout all over this forum.
Linux is an extremely reliable os - it runs 58% of the worlds web servers. Linux is as secure or unsecure as you want it to be, the netfilter part of the 2.4.X kernel blows the firewall bundled with XP out of the water. Finally, linux is a lot more compatible than any microsoft os - windows runs on intel and alpha platforms - linux will run on intel, alpha, sparc, powerpc, m68k, mips and a whole host of other platforms.
You're talking out of your ass.
Ok for all the Linux users in this forum. I'm truley sorry for submitting this thread. It seemed like it was starting out as jokes but it has turned users against users. And since I'm a Microsoft Hippie I would rather see peace then war. Everyone has here has there different views, opinons and preferences. We have gone to far in this thread to deliberatley hurt others. We should be more respectfull to others I know I will from now on. I am surrendering.
P.S.
It was nice to hear people's views on the subject, and I hope that nothing that was said here was taken to personal.
Allow me to 'correct' your statement, Petemcevoy:Quote:

Apache does run 58% of the TOP servers, Microsoft software runs 26% of them. But the web is, like it or not, run by Windows (look here for more info): 'Computers running the web: Windows 50%, Linux 30% ... '
I got the idea, though... ;)
You should also keep in mind that those top servers are not your average home PC...
why buy xp if you have linux and already think/know it's the best ... or didn't you guys buy it (alright start complaining about my english I know it's very very bad)

but xp sucks. heh
Just to make a point if you can find somthing of value such as XP for free. Why wouldn't you take it. I refuse to pay for software and honestly don't believe in it. Information should be free and so should software in that regards.
I have two computers lol.
P.S.
To evilseed what's the deal of stealing my avatar, but you can have it since I changed it anyway this morning. I was getting bored with looking at green hair and thought I needed a change.lol.
I've said my peace in a previous post, and won't continue to fight. I would have to agree with thor saying why can't we all just get along.
I can't believe this post is dreding along. But if people feel it's neccesary for it continue along then let it be.
I have never used XP nor will I until the price is lowered about 66% for the home edition, and the forced registering thing dies out.
By the way dont expect all software to be free anytime soon. These companies are in it to make money, and I don't blame them. If I could design something that cost more, and had twice as many problems as my competitor, but still was able to make a ton of cash I would.
The first thing I have to say about any and i mean any Microsoft product is XXXpensive. I try to stay clear of all Microsoft items. As for XP; dunno? I am not about to pay that much money for it. I will stay will my handy dandy Linux. :o
Im in the Tech Support field :)....
An I was just wondering if someone could tell me about the network settings and things of that nature in windows xp.
The thing I do support on does not currently support windows xp all the way cause Microsoft has not told us all what it can do yet proply wont for a month or two. This is what they told us its like windows 2000 pro. An if someone calls up with windows xp were suppose to give it are "best effort". So basically what we feel like doing but I actually want to help people with there problem than just go sorry we dont support that call microsoft. I know how to get the ip address and release/renew it. But I been told you can customize settings for internet explorer something called passport or whatever Im just wondering what all that lets u do. An Internet Explorer 6 comes standard with that correct? Does it have a my computer icon and all that with control panel and a device manager or what? An is getting to the network properties the same as o say windows 2000?
Any Information you could give me would help Im tired of getting cussed at cause I dont know anything about windows xp because microsoft isnt telling my company what all it can do.
The Passport-system...Quote:

MSN Explorer is linked to a Hotmail-account and a .net-passport.
You can find more information about the Passport here .
It basically allows you to buy stuff online from registered Passport-sites, only using one mail-adress and one password...
It comes standard with it, it keeps asking for it, it freaks the hell out of me... but you don't have to use it if you don't want to...Quote:

When you first boot up WinXP, you'll propably think your PC has turned into a Mac... The only pictogram on your desktop is the Recycle Bin. The Start-menu consists of two colums instead of one, but this can easily be changed. Control panel, device manager and network settings are still there...Quote:

Actually, everything you are used to is still there. You'll just have to look for it, I guess.
I don't understand what the hype is with Windows XP. I will continue using Win2k and when that's obsolete I will use a MAC for all my multimedia needs.
