DSL und Cable
T1 would be nice, must live closer to the EviL teclo.
Im a dial up user here. Only good thing is that it only costs $6.00 a month. Just wondering can you get like 5 DSL or cable connections in one house? It seems that this would make you faster, cheaper than a T1.
dial--up at night which i hated to use until i found this site. usually just waited until i go to work and use the T. spolies the hell out of me. cable and dsl are available in my city but not in my neighborhood :-[
a gerbal that runs around in a wheel as a server
I am running a DSL connection.. 768x128
which calculates out to 91kbps download 16 kbps upload.
GOD OH GOD WHY DO THEY CAP THE UPLOAD?!?!
(needs to run faster servers)

I got the exact same think, and i don't realy care for my capped upload ... i wouldn't mind a bigger one, but my capped upload prevents mr ftom all my friends hogging about on my ftp server ... :)
I've got ISDN as primary with a dialup as standby.

Hrmm. Well I waited for four years for my cable (yes, I had heard about it in 1996). I got it last year. To my disappointment, I had to do DHCP and even if I went to the business edition, I still couldn't get static IP so I could setup my own DNS. =(
I think I may have to go DSL for that.
I'm on a 56k modem...It's not that bad i guess...If your considering how fast the net was 5 years ago.
lol
I got a 34mb SDH circuit.... no incentive to go home now though :D
I have an Adsl line on 2mbit download and 640j upload :)
it ok for me.. but after i put up an box.. it got slower.. som i will sonn get 10mbit line :D
Amig
I run 56K dialup at home.
DSL at work.
T something at school, forgot what they said,
Have T1 at our warehouse.
T1 and cable at work 56k at home..:)
Sadly dial-up!
thx for the replies....sorry for all you dial-uppers...:(
I used to have DSL when I lived in the ghetto and it was excellent. Now that I live in the sticks I back to dial up. Its about 5 bucks a month so I guess I cant really complain, but I have this great E-card just sitting there doing nothing. Oh well. Peace.
I have what a minute are you sure your not working for the govt. or some other organization. To be it sounds like your trying to get information off of people, are you a telemarketer..... I don't think I trust you with this information.
FreeOn, might want to ease up on the crack..your paranoia is starting to show...:)
I have Cable ยก 512kbps download & upload 128 kbps
but the problem here in Argentina is their cost, near U$s 100, very expensive
T1 at college & 56K at home. . . soon to be cable or DSL.
DSL 256K/128K = 30K download, 15K upload.
:) Cable as primary w/dial up as secondary
Dial-up, but it aint that bad some dude tweaked it for me; so now when I sign on it says that I have signed on at 115200bps
On a 56k....I dont think so..
It is posible to have a static IP address for a Cable modem but don't ask me how. Some time ago my settings stuffed up and I lost connection with my cable internet. It didn't work with Assigning Automatic IP address. My ISP couldn't resolve the problem but gave me a fixed IP address which works well.Quote:

I have cable and yes, it is possible to have multiple connections in the house, along with running cable phone and cable television all simultaneously without interfering with eachother.Quote:

MsMittens, I've got Optus@Home cable internet, which is also using DHCP. But there is one thing I have noticed.. My IP address has not changed since I got it. I believe that they are using DHCP, but each computer has a IP Address reserved just for it.. doesn't that make you feel special.Quote:

If your lucky, your provider might be doing the same stupid thing.
I personally don't like how the provider is doing it as I believe that broadband users are the ones who really need dynamic IP addresses.. but thats a different issue altogether...
