Well here we in 2002 and Im creating a thread which is not a usual occurance Im usually replying.
Anyway for all our 12 members who are currently using the Euro I just realised that the new currency sucks.
Yes, crappy paper and miniscul coins. Jesus!
What do you all think?
Ennis, I share your pain. Tonight, I was in a pub, and tried to buy drinks with this new monopoly-money... as for the coins: up to now, we paid everything by shoving a pile of coins to the tender and saying "this should probably be enough" ...

The positive thing with the new currency is that it'll be easier for me to compare computer prices between the countries. But I still don't really like it, a currency are almost like the flag or a stamp for a country it's a part of the identity :-).
I have decided to avoid the new currency as much as possible since it's so many damned coins I prefer to use my small plastic card instead of having coins in every pocket :-).
In Finland were I live (The Aaland Islands ) will we be more introduced to the new currency first on wednesday. All money machines (ATM) should then be exchanged and ready for the new currency.
Thank god for the dollar. :) Still the international money of choice... (at least that's what the government tells us over here.)
Maybe the Euro will take over the world, I can see it now the EU World Order controlling everything...wait they do that already...well they could interfere...wait..the do that too....ummmonly messing...EU is good ;)....

So I haven't used or even held the currency yet. I've seen it and it looks pretty brutal.
I wish we still had to lovely one-syllable punt instead of the tacky euro. But such is life.:(
The Euro is ****ed up, in Holland all the prices went up, video rental/cd prices and even the prices in the pubs.
The prices has went up in Finland aswell.. We don't have all the euro coins so due to that many prices went up with as much as 20 cents (euro cents).
Sweden took a good decision to keep their currency, but I guess it'll only be a matter of time before they also converts to the monopoly-alike euro. And probably some other countries will follow aswell and then the profecy Ennis predicted maybe will come true :(.
Well Finland and pretty much Scandinavia has allways been expensive, well at least to us Dutch :D
The fun part about the Euro now, is to try and collect all the coins, every country has a diffrent set.
The Euro money has some advantages:
1) You don't need to change money when crossing EU country borders.
2) The money is logical consistent (small = small value, big = big value)
3) You could better compare prizes.
The real bad thing about it is that the prizes increased.
Nevertheless: I think we (EU ppl) better could give up our own coins and stuff and stick together.
I'm not gonna make any statements yet on the good/bad thing about the Euro. I must admitt having mixed feelings about it, but so did I when I oppened my bankaccount on the Caiman Islands with all my dollars I won playing Blackjack, 21, Roulette, etc..... but that's another story :D
Guess every medal has its positive and negative side. We'll just have to wait and see............and at the end concurre the world :D and eventually we will make it of gold and stamp it with the face of Romanof Emperor or.........why not put my face on it :p
But I'll let you all know when that happens.
i must admit i love the australian currency.....see the 10 dollar note has a famous poem written really small and when i was young i used to use a microscope to read it(passes time!).anyway i must admit also that i don't like the queen being on my coins-then again i'd hate JONHIE HOWARD(pm)to be on my coins............any views??????
Apparently, it's 'start date' has bred some problems...
I've heard that multiple money laundering rings are counterfeiting Euros and exchanging them for US Dollars...
And on a side note...Italy has had so many problems that there are only enough 'real' Euros available (due to counterfeiting and such) to fund only 30% of the ATMs in that country...
Bad idea, announcing the release having such (apparently) lax security on the form and composition of it...

I life in canada so i am unaffected by the euro, however I think that soon enough with the canadian dollar so low, we will just have to have a combined currency with the US and prices will skyrocket

the first new-money I lay'd my hands on was the 10, later I had a 5 and a 20... they're so *****ing tiny...

and about the prices going up, that aint so bad, you are talking about cents. and because we can pay with cents now we will never pay more then the real price like we used to do, with five cents (stuivers)
I personnally dont give a **** about the money change, it can only be good for the economics, and I dont have to change money everytime I go international
a more intresting subject is: do you also think that europe will outstrip The US of A, cause I really hope so.. and it will probably be so.. (if I have to believe all those ministers)

If we were to listen to the majority of the economist they say the Euro will gain parity with the US Dollar by June/July and then get stronger, therefore torism from Europe will go up strengthening the US economy.
As I see it one of the biggest problems with the euro is that europe is still alot of different countries. If one of the countries economy is going bonkers the option of devaluating the currency is lost with the euro. Hence making the smaller countries more vulnerable.
Oh, another thing with the new euro coin is that it contains nickel. and nickel allergy sucks!

the big differance is only because its new, when it stabilises it will probably rise alot. (not sure if this is a correct sentence)

But hey, why does it matter what the money looks like? If you don't like it, you can glue little thumbnail-sized pictures of hot chicks on there... or make your own currency! It could be the size of a sheet of notebook paper! And you could fold it! And it could be customizeable and all!!!
Or, you could just move to America and be happy :)

Look at countries like Spain for example. There economy is weak.
