I'm studying Bachelor of Information Technology at uni. It's a 3 year course and I'm just getting into the 2nd year.
:)

I received a BS degree/MIS major from a university last year. May go back for graduate school in another year.
i am in grade10 in a toronto high school. i am taking computer science course. and i am failing in english.
I am currently a sophomore studying for my Bachelors degree in Computer Science with a minor in Information Technology and Physics...

I'm mostly self-taught. I'm a junior in high school, where I'm rejected for being different. I couldn't figure out how I was different. With nothing better to do, I decided I might as well fit the part of the reject, and get into computers. Before too long, I realized that this was something that their feeble little minds couldn't comprehend if their worthless, miserable lives depended on it. Now, I finally have a way in which I can look down on them. I'm smarter than they are. I don't have to resort to hit-each-other-really-hard-for-the-fun-of-itball to be superior. Unlike them, I don't have to act all big and macho to be superior, and they know it. Now, I have a way in which I can get them back for making fun of me and making my life a living hell back in the days of middle school (and halfway through high school). When they ask me for computer help, I simply tell them "Be gone, feeble-minded person, for computers are not for somebody of your measly brain power. **** your cheerleader, and be satisfied, for it is where you belong." Of course, I've lost them before the end of the first sentence, and they have usually already begun to start groping somebody. I no longer give a flying **** about high school, because I see it as nothing more than a waste of my time. Memorize a bunch of mind-numbing facts so you can pass the standardized test and get a worthless piece of paper? Talk about futility. Memorized facts do not constitute knowledge. Standardized tests do not assess knowledge. They assess obedience, nothing more. The schools do nothing to stimulate the mind or the thought process, so I ignore them. When they start doing their job, I will pay attention. Until then, I'm failing 5 of 7 classes because I don't care anymore. Of course, it doesn't help that my chemistry teacher is also the cheerleading coach. I make it a priority to fail that class. She does nothing to teach chemistry. Instead, she spends the hour chatting with the cheerleaders, and lets the book do the teaching for her. She also helps her cheerleaders in any and every way they want, and blows off everybody else. One time, my friend asked a question about something he got wrong on a test, and she told him (in that snotty tone of voice) to figure it out, becasue he dared interrupt her chat session with her cheerleaders. She has also let cheerleaders get away with things that she has nailed other people to the wall for. You can also tell by the way she teaches that she knows nothing about chemistry. She never offers additional insight into the material, and she never strays at all from the textbook, no matter how ridiculous, meaningless, or even wrong the material is (yes, I have found false information in the book that she pushed as true). Also, if you look around her room, you'll see it's loaded with decorations around her desk....all them being cheerleader coach stuff. The only thing she has on her wall that pertains to chemistry is an incomplete periodic table. Basically, her coaching takes priority over her teaching. That's just plain wrong. I no longer care about high school. What I need to know, I teach myself, and I ended up miles and miles ahead of everybody else because of it. I have no respect at all for the students in my school. I wish I could get away from all of them. None of them understand what it's like. Even one of my friends doesn't understand, and lectures me constantly on what a "slacker" I am, and how I'm "going to go nowhere in life". I can't seem to get him to understand what it's like, and that he's only making my problem worse. I've tried, but he just doesn't seem to get it. I've even had the gun to my head (several times) over the **** I go through at school. Luckily, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I don't know how much longer I'm going to be able to last. If I have to repeat a year, I'm going to snap. I won't wuss out, either. I'll pull the ****ing trigger. I'd rather die than spend an extra year in that vile hellhole. Not many days go by that I don't toy with the idea of ending it all. I have looked for other exits, but there are none. Death will be the only way out. I no longer fear it. It can't possibly be worse than my life.
So I guess for my education, you can say that I'm going through bullshit school. After all, that's what it is, nothing more than thought control and bullshit.
I'm still in high school (I'm a junior) but I'm going to have an Advanced certificate in Programming (From a tech college) in a few months. I will be in computer engineering when I graduate
I'm in my second year of working on a computer science degree.
Ok, And I'm mechanical engineer, do u believe?
But I love computers !!!
I'm a freshman.. muh 1st year in college. ;)
I'm werking on my bachelor's degree in computer science. I'm takeing a test in May for a certificate from 0racle. I have a certificate in business core, high school diploma, and a certificate in computer fundamentals. I have a 4.0 GPA.. and I sux0r at spelling and english. I'm currently learning advanced HTML, DHTML, Flash 5, fireworks, dreamweaver,SQL, and java script. A bit of everything but I'm hopeing to become an 0racle DBA.. That way if I fux0r up 9i I'll be a millionare!:D

Unlike STFLook, I don't look upon highschool as a living hell. The cheerleaders did not hate my gutz. And I helped others. Currently I am a sophmore getting my associates in Computer Science, will transfer next Winter to get my bachelours and I am dating the cute little hottie known as Tania.

Just click on Photos,
Yes my website is frontpage and sucks, no i did not leave anonymolus editting on.
I am currently a freshman in College and am just working on computer science and automotive tech. I dont have a certain course of study as of yet but i plan on going for a degree in computer repair and programming.
Let's see...
I have a Bacherlor of Arts (Political Science -- oooh. that got me far)
Post-Diploma Diploma in Research (another one that got me far)
Diploma in Network and System Administration. (that got me instructor status eventually).
A lot of my computer knowledge is self-taught and self-broken (I have fried a few too many machines when trying the "let's see what this does.. oh look. blue flames! COOL!").
If I can get perm at my present location I will probably try for a Bachelor of Applied Comp Sci at one of the local universities.
I'm ... well ... I guess I'm in about my 6th year of college overall. Started out by doing medicine & taking the MCAT. Decided that medicine isn't what I wanted to do - you can only take so much of the "if I **** my buddy, I'll get a better grade on the exam" mentality. While I was doing that, I was actually a triple-major (Medicine, Computer Science, Philosophy). At this university, I came in to the merged CS / Engineering degree (which sucks), stayed in it for 2 1/2 years, and am now going to complete an extended BS in Psychology in a semester, then onto an MBA with an emphasis in MIS.
And if I have some time, I'll throw in my Philosophy degree ... of course, that means 18 unit semesters for the next year and a half ... but that's okay (I'm at 22 units for this semester).
Overall, though? School sucks. I have work experience and certifications, and am just here to get the paper. :)

stflook, I couldn't have put it any better...
Pretty much the same thing, self-taught now for 14 years of computer knowledge, with my main expertise in unix systems administration. Now it's funny to see my "friends" in HS or people that otherwise do the bully-gotta-look-good-and-have-a-social-status-to-mean-something thing always need help now because they know they have no knowledge at all. I've had a few say "Well damn, you don't have to be so condescending about it" (usually when I say, "Windows? How easy is that?") to which I say "Well, go to Best Buy and they'll charge 85 bucks for what you'd have done in 5 minutes for otherwise free, now kiss off".
Amazing..computers is one area where image is nothing. Too bad they don't understand that concept.
I have a Bacherlor of Arts (in Philosophy with minor in science)
I'am in my last year for a Master in Philosophy
Computer knowledge: auto-didact, and I work for a ICT company during vacations (tech support for networks and pc"s).
Well, in High School I did 2U and 3U Computer Studies.. (most likely, only Australians will understand that part)....
After that, I went on to complete a Diploma in Network Engineering...
Yet amazingly, I'm still a dumbass.... oh well....
Highschool diploma and about 1 year of college towards a business degree.
All computer related stuff is basically self taught (I have taken one class in SQL 7 Administration....woohoo). Currently I'm working towards mcsd, inet+, net+ and ciw security certification. I'm also getting things set up for work to send me to school for a bachelors in computer sci.
Yeah, well, I'm a sophomore in high school... so I don't have any college degrees :)
Thinking bout going to Georgia Tech for a major in Aeronautical Engineering, for anyone who might be interested.

I am in my second year at a company where my main focus is network security/intrusion detection, however I hold no degree nor have I enrolled in any post-secondary education concerning the subject. I was a Florida licensed EMT until my license ran out a year ago. Most of what I know is learned out of necessity or from courses provided to me at no cost by my employer. I plan to get my BS in Computer Science sometime.........and I also plan to focus on the security side of the house; more action there.
The Eeshman
in high school i had friends on both sides of the fence. hung around with the "cool" kids for the parties and the "geeks" for intellectual stimulation. i'm a certified webmaster (as if that means alot lol) this is my hobby site when i have free time http://final-destination.viper-unlimited.com ,a self taught programmer in vb (please dont flame me lol im learning c++ now), an avid security enthusiast, and a wannabe unix admin. college is in the near future.
I`ve got a Masters in Herbology and a minor in Psychology. Got my first computer in 2000 and have learnt more from talking to folks here than from people who say that they are computer smart. Around my home town most can only brag when you start asking questions that involve more than the VERY basic info they look at you with this what you are you talking about look. The worst part about this is these are people who are going to college and taking computer courses or are working in computer stores. I have found that when I run into a problem that I need help with I just post it and before long I have lots of good answers.
well, i am a graduate of computer science and currently taking up a master degree of information technology.
I have a HighSchool Diploma, I am mostly self taught. I am graduating from a technical school in a week or so. The class is 'Network Support Services', I am currently studying for my CCNA and looking at taking some RHCE classes to become RedHat Certified. I work for the MIS Department in my county, I am the backup operator and network assistant. I work with the Network Spec running cable, programming switches and everything inbetween. I am a backup for the operator (who performs daily and weekly backups of the servers) when needed.

As I just signed up, I guess this is as good as any thread for my first post... albeit a wordy one.
Ummm, when I was in High School, a TI "pocket" caculator would set you back what a nice desktop PC does today... so very little computer study there -- I did know of their existance, as my father worked for space program from around the X-1 to the Saturn shots.
Then I went to work for Uncle Sam and got into a different venue of security... to date, I have still done more work with MP5s than MD5, but I digressed into computers in the early 80s and took a few CC courses and stuff -- nothing to really get excited about.
The 90s was a time of great personal study, in the early part of that decade I was a hacker by the early definition of the word... I think my first hack job was to pinout a 8088 and mount a V-30 processor on a seperate socket via ribbon cable -- the 80XX stayed onboard and acted as a primitive North Gate (anyone remember that kit?). Some time later I managed to get a 486 to manage a RAID array and translate back to a whicked fast P150Pro via a SCSI cable... ughh, I feel old.
I am not far from a pension and realize I am getting too old to be the dope on the rope, so I spend lots of time reading and taking advantage of the wealth of information available from sites such as this... and free security courses available through various agencies I work for or with -- I hope to knock out my first certification in Computer Forensics this summer.
I have 1 class left before I graduate. I will be receiving an Associates of Applied Science with a concentration in PC Specialist. I also have a little networking experience. Im debating on whether to take the A+, Net+, Cisco exams. . . thats a lota money to shell out.
ohhh ooooo... here are all masters...great...
well i have done my graduation with physics, advances electronics and applied chemistry.
then i did my diploma in computer programing , concepts. where i learnt...oracle,C,C++,assembly, computer fundamentals,VC++,VB(going on) .
now i am in my first year or MCA . and currently working with C and unix at system level.
hope if i get i want to do majors in Artificial intelligence & robotics in my last year of MCA.
intruder...
I have no computing qualifications as such.
However, I do have a degree (MA) in maths from Oxford University.
When I started out (20+ years ago) it was all "on the job" training. So you had to make your own way to succeed ....
I spent 10 years in a military prison reading PC magazines...
I was than rescued by a school of dolphins who were quite skilled in the finer points of partitioning and the installation of OS such as Mandrake and RedHat...
After a few years in the ocean I decided to travel. I ended up living with a herd of cows in The UK who taught me the finer points of hardware firewalls and the beauty of the keylogger....
*cough* first year Uni drop-out from a network-engineer education :(
what is the need for such unneeded articles to consume valuable time.. it doesn't matter whether U are a student in school or a full fledged programmer, sys admin
so leave it
Hello all: Stflook you got it, man. Many of us are rejected in H.S. In my younger days I just joined the soccer team, in the 70's soccer players where considered freaks, we all had long hair and where part of the other crowd. But ya know what we could run circles around the football crowd.
Back to the subject at hand. H.S dropout with a GED. Some college ( a mix of classes ) mostly self taught though. Books and more books and now the WWW, antionline, sysop, ect.... I usually read till my eyes bleed, as some of the seniors here say.
Well you all have a great day.:) JIFFYPROGASM
Im a senior in HS. I dont get screwed with, though I used to, Now everyone just kinda leaves me alone. HS is an excercise in futility.
Graduating this year, then going to CSCC to get my general Education classes out of the way. Then thinking of going to Case Western for Programming or systems administration, not sure yet.
:ubergun:
Ok, this has been covered before. . . .Quote:

#2 That was your 1st freaking post? THAT was a waste of time and space. If all you are going to do is complain, please dont bother posting any more.
#3 Dont take this the wrong way. Consider is constructive criticism.

Well, I am an old FART!!!
When I went to school there was no such thing as
computers or computer science.....
Just Data Processing....
I find that most College Grads with a Computer Science usually know
less than I do and that knowelege is only good for about 3 years!!!
If you are real nosy!!!
www.bagpipes.net/cable
That link has my Resume
I am a high school grad. Hated every second of it, but pulled through.
I decided to take some time off before college, get a full time job (doing web development for about 4 years now), and study for some certifications. A couple months ago I completed the CIW Site Designer track, and am now a certified Master CIW Designer (www.ciwcertified.com).
Currently working on setting up a web development company with a friend of mine. If it actually rolls, I'll go to college part time and get a degree in business. If the company doesn't roll, I'll go to college full time for computer science. All depends how this business goes.
So that's me.
Rolled out of high scholl with honors 3.85 cumulative GPA. I spent that last year screwing around or I would've had a 4.0 ( no biggy).
Some college, got bored with the know-nothing, apathetic professors that were more concerned that everyone buy their stupid books (that, of course were mandatory for the class and cost about 200 bones)
Started in 'puters when I was young, just a hobby, became my life's work(so far).
That's it.
Ass-rapage. Federal "pound me in the ass" kind of school. Maybe 22 units (all 400 lvl courses, except for my 635 course) was a bit much. And it's Tuesday. And I'm reading. Books .. that came to over $400. <sigh>
Engineering books were expensive, but unfortunately, so are psychology books if you go high enough in courses. :/
Thanks for everyone who chipped in a couple of posts for me; I'll try to keep up in here, but likely my posts will be *really* sporadic from now until spring break or so.
But, then, after this - I'm done with my undergraduate shtuff. :)

I agree with you, anuapsap. I may be just a new member here but I've lurked for quite some time. For four months to be exact! A while back there where alot of threads like "what is the best" or "who is the best".....
It's better if you just keep quiet about some of those "not so security related" threads...Since the antipoint system came in it doesn't pay to have a differing opinion to the majority....
