Greets everyone. I think that AO needs a search engine.
Preferable Google since it was voted and recomended
by a lot of members here at AO and it would be a great
feature.. just a suggestion though. ;)

So what sort of search engine would we use? Can't we just direct people to http://www.google.com? Wouldn't that work just as well?
Oh, and bout your sig... total security IS possible... unplug your frickin computer from the wall, and throw it out the window. No more hacker trouble!
--PhirePhreak
I suppose we could but dont you get tired of giving ppl
that same url over and over and over.. now you can just
tell em to go to the front page of AO.. If JP adds it to the site ;)
Remote_Access_
Ah, now I think I know what you mean. A little search box deal?
Great idea :) You've got my support!
--PhirePhreak
Yup.. it would be useful for everyone..
well those that know how to look
information up for themselves any way... ;)
Thanks for your support! :D

Google says its going towards more commercial advertising. maybe we should see how far the go first.
in my opinion, i think there is no point in making search engines that uses the google's. it would make the site more complicated. why not going to google.com and do the search there. but if it is the majority why don't we do it.
Good idea RA.
IMHO its a nice idea as long as it don't make the site more complicated. I kind of like AO's clean look (a bit confusing at first look though :)). But maybe a optional search page with more than one search engine listed?Quote:

Uhm... I don't think it's a good idea. Too much potential trouble. There is more info on google here. But I would go against it. Neat, but not really necessary, and it might just cause some extra server load.
Terr, I fail to see the potential 'trouble' of having a searh engine.
Of course it's not necessary but it would be a neat feature to have.
How can a search engine cause the server to over load?
You see on the front page of AO where it says 'About Antionline'?
Just make it a box about that size to fit down there in the
lower left hand corner. Try it out for a while and if it causes
too much problems just remove it..

I like the idea of having a search engine on AO. Being able to search for a document instead of trying to find one would be a great time saver. :)
Antionline had one called Antisearch when JP began his pseudo corporation. Along with Antisearch, Askbub, Anticode, Antionline.net and Antionline.org all failed.

Pseudo corporation? Is this the infamous oblio back? I thought JP deleted your account oblio.
Back to your old habits I guess.
Well, why you're here ?!?Quote:

PS: I'm curious ...
Why not just link to it and have it open in a new page. That way ppl stay here and also attach to google
do any of you care to explane how a simple
search engine will make the site more complicated?
Remote_Access_
it is 'EXPLAIN'.
"Why not just link to it and have it open in a new page. That way ppl stay here and also attach to google"
IS IT SO ****ING HARD TO PRESS CTRL N AND OPEN A NEW BROWSER WINDOW. GOOGLE ****ING EVEN OFFERS A SEARCH BAR FOR MSIE AND OPERA HAS ONE BUILT IN NOT TO MENTION THE SIDEBAR IN NETSCAPE. MY GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU IDIOTS.
I think Remote was offering a simple suggestion. You act like your life depends on someone agreeing with your position Oblio...no need for caps lock. I shall put this post on report also because there is no justification for this over-reaction
Hmm... On my own site, I have a search box for search.com, and it works perfectly. No problems that I've seen yet. I can't imagine that the google.com one would be much different. Again, I'm all for it! And all for oblio's QUICK departure (maybe it'll last this time...)
--PhirePhreak
I think this AO site is just fine.. JP has done a good job and it improves by the month. RA the suggestion for a search engine is good. Google? Well maybe.
:what:
route67, I like your idea!
PhirePhreak, I wouldn't throw my computer out the window, that's exactly how the hackers can get it... :)
-ZeroOne
Idea: why not have a search engine that searches AO.com? It would search all documents for keywords and so on...I think it would be a nice feature, instead of having to search threw differant archives and reading all of those comments, just give me the files with the key words ;P
Midridth you can search Ao here
What's the a macro of, valhallen?
valhallen: whoops my bad..thanks =)
jehnx: its a pic of a very bored me :) Nah had way too much time on my hands waiting on a download so was just mucking about and came up with that mess that is my sig ;)
Midridth: Np - I only noticed it like a week ago as well ;)
