Anyone interested in reading these transcripts. Keep in mind Kissinger didn't want these to be released until 5 years after his death. What kind of goodies do you think he's hiding in there?

I can't believe he is still around.
He is probably got much on the vietnam era in those tapes and no, I don't care - it's way before my time.
Maybe he'll disclose whether Al gore really invented the internet though. :D
There is a great book called "The Trial of Henry Kissinger" By Christopher Hitchens that explains why we should care about these tape....no one man has done more to hurt the image of the US worldwide thatn "DR" Kissinger....
Thanks for the link, looks like I have some reading tonight!
Thanks jcmcb. I'll have to look that book up.
jcmcb - you bring up something interesting. Perhaps we should care because from what I am finding on the K is he DID hurt the image of the US. post some links if you got 'em.
I didn't vote in the poll
and don't flame / neg-a-point me for this..
I don't give a flying-***** bout those tapes..
I gave up my trust in US government a long time ago..
together with the whole western-civilization idea
(or are Dutch ppl not allowed to post in these kinda-threads??)
Wow. I'm sorry you feel that way.
Everyone is welcome if they have something intelligent to say....
the_JinX - dutch people have as much right to speak their minds as anyone.
One small note of history which will not make you happier, wasn't it the british govt that allowed a nazi attack to go ahead so they would not find out the warcode was compromised?
One small note of history which may make you happier, wasn't it the canadian troops that rebuilt your country to a large degree.
I hope your faith can be restored in civilization because while there is bad, there is also good.
peace
Here is a link to the website of the author, Christopher Hitchens....http://www.enteract.com/~peterk/
Some background - He is a US Cit. of British origins, a left wing (but not a nut) commentator, and resident of my home - DC.
Hope this helps....
PS if anyone knows where you could get these transcripts or recordings of them online please post it...I might go over to the archieves next month, but it would be easier online
The transcripts have to be "looked over" first to see if there is any "sensitive" information in them. It should take a couple of weeks I'm sure before they are available.
Wow. Four people have opinions. With this crowd I would've expected more.
You might have gotten more, if you had posted thisQuote:

in the Cosmos forum instead of General chit chat.
Kissinger does seem a long time ago, especially to
people who weren't even born during his time
as Nixon's right hand man.
I used to be up on these things, but I wasn't aware
the tapes had been released.
Another oldie with much to answer for (especially on Vietnam war):
Robert Mcnamara.
These guys always write big books telling their side
of the story, while other historians try to dig for
the truth. The trouble is that official records
are "sealed" for many years, until no one cares
any more.
I hope the younger generation doesn't really
believe that events and persons from times
past should be ignored or forgotten because
of being "before my time"
rcgreen - Your right about the Cosmos forum I think....
As for Bob, I heard him speak once and (unlike Henry) I think he is actually remorseful about what happened in vietnam....
Now is that remosre for contributing to the deaths of untold humans? Or is it because he failed? THis I cannot answer....
im interested in the things you speak of... but i personally know nothing about them..
Check out that Hitchens Book, and also Sy Hersch has written some great books and articles on the Vietnam era....
I worry that this currrent terrorist scare will allow people like Kissinger to escape justice...though Pinocet was indcited but let go on account of his age....
The Times they are a changin'
It's not necessarily a matter of should he go to jail but more of the fact that he may have done some irreparable damage to the U.S. image.
How to punish him then?
What can you do to Kissinger? I think god's done all he can, don't you?
