Check out www.theregister.co.uk and read the BOFH stories, they should help you become a "very" good sysadmin :)
Try getting on an undergraduate course with IBM, this way you will get some experience and a degree and probably a job offer as well.
I think these links will help you out ........

lol if you mean how to be a CERTIFIED system admin.. as in havng a certificate.. i would look on taking up IT Systems Administration courses.. or to make sure get MCSE or ComSci.. though ComSci is a 3 year course it would give you enough understanding on how everything works... NOTE that what you have learnt this year would be obselete within two years maximum.. thats why some computer specialists still take courses if they want to be more updated..
If you dont' have budget for instructor-led training. Try reading books about the MSCE track.
There is a degree course call computer systems and networks this course is designed not only to cover the required information for the technical side of network administration but all so has a small section on business and law. This course is 4 years. The third year is based in industry in the field you wish to specialise in, I myself am choosing to enter into network administration, so I have a placement within the collage to work with the network administrator for a year, this I hope will give me a greater understanding of the job itself. The idea is that the student comes out with knowledge of both the IT side of network administration as well as a basic understanding of business/law concepts which might be required in practice though not directly related to network administration, perhaps there is a similar course available near you at you local collage.

Need more info. What type of system admin? Or do you mean network admin...(btw Focmaester...BOFH is a net admin, not sys admin :P ) Basically, a system admin knows the system they are workin on inside out. What do you want to work on? Linux boxen? Windows workstations? Windows servers? AIX? Solaris? BSD? SCO? etc etc. Sysadmin is a general term for a lot of different jobs. You just have to pick one. Basically, figure out what kind of system you want to work with, and learn it. Once you know it, then you really start to learn it. Then, go find a copy of the OS and use it. etc etc.
Some hard work and learning is in order. Depending on your budget ask around at various training institutions and schools. Build up a home network and hit the books.
read, learn, read, learn, practice, work, experiance.
hmmmm.....if you want to be an nt/2k/xp admin you could hang around around the office...saying things like 'hey did you know i can hook that printer up to the network'...and 'hmmm...we could put all of the user files on individual computers on one central SERVER..'(that'll get em...)...in a scary number of cases...that's how people actually become m$ sys/net admins...not in *nix tho...coz you actually have to know stuff...hehe
read...school...read more...eat drink live computers...
IT Systems Administration course is the way to go. If you don't have the time or the money for that buy some books and look into getting some certs. No matter what route you take your employer will most likely start you off in a Helpdesk/lab monitor type of job. Not very often do you get a network admin job handed to you with out proving you self first.
hey guys i appreciate useful tips thanks alot!!!
I'm looking to be a sys admin too, what languages would you reccomend for automating things on a *nix box? perl ... shell (and what version IE: bourne)... what ?
