Not really...although you could consider the UN one government trying to control many, but it's at their discretion.
Before a one world government could work.. I think many countries will "unite/allaince" first.. and so on and so on, until its all combined.
A few words of advice preacherman...
Post this up in the "Cosmos Forum" ...you'll get better, longer, and more 'worthy' replies. Although the two above are certainly fine.
Union of the human race under one ruler
has been the fervent hope of some,
and the dreaded fear of others.
My prediction is that it will never happen.

Created in 1995 to enforce and expand GATT (the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade), the World Trade Organization is the most powerful legislative and judicial body in the world.
By promoting the "free trade" agenda of multinational corporations above the interests of local communities, working families, and the environment, the WTO has systematically undermined democracy around the world.
In the five years of its existence, WTO panels composed of corporate attorneys have ruled that: the US law protecting sea turtles was a barrier to "free trade"; that US clean air standards and laws protecting dolphins are too; that the European Union law banning hormone-treated beef is illegal. According to the WTO, our democratically elected public officials no longer have the rights to protect the environment and public health.
Unlike United Nations treaties, the International Labor Organization conventions, or multilateral environmental agreements, WTO rules and rulings can be enforced through sanctions. This gives the WTO more power than any other international body and even national governments.

What a great idea! Lets let giant corporations run our planet.
The WTO has stopped the US from setting land aside for conservation, makes us buy dirty Mexican oil and now says we can’t give tax breaks to our own companies.
yes preacherman481 there is a beast
I have a hunch that Bill moneybags Gate$ is trying to take over the world. He could have some type of corporate army hiding in the desert as we speak.
I guess [WebCarnage] was right about worthy posts. Cwk9 makes this clear. Btw Cwk9 what OS do you run?
Preacherman,
What I will say is, we should not lean toward the one world government theory. What I believe is that it is a good idea that will not work in the real world. {IE, prohibition, isolationism, quakerism, etc} It is a very good idea to institute a government of control over the world, but considering the side effects, I do not believe it would work. For one, there could be a serious problem with the checks and balanaces system, without competition among foreign governments there could be no where to go, if you disagree with the current state of affairs. And without foreign trade, there would be no tariffs aswell. If everything ran free with trading that would put almost all american businesses out of business. And imposing a minimum wage into 3rd world contries could aswell destroy the economy. Another would be a world police force. Who would be the leader, where would the control be? Would america be the police? If so, what prevents corruption?
I could keep on going on with this opisition, but I believe that you understand my perspective.
Tedob1, what is it exactly about the WTO that you dislike? Sure, it supports capitalism in general, but then again, so do most individual countries. So, what specific law, treaty, plan or decision that is causing problems?
Briefly,
the wto supports capitolism in the manner of Ayn Rand. We decided that wouldn't work in the last century.
I believe in the sovereignty of the United States. We should never deliver to any international governing body the authority to dictate what our laws should be.
The sanctity of all life should come before profit.
Big business is not now nor ever has been our friend. It took too long to put a halt to the destruction too our lives and land, caused by the greed of big business to have it all pushed aside because it’s a hindrance to trade. That’s what caused it to begin with.
I think that the human race ultimatly depends on uniting but, this is very, very far from happening. In todays world it just wouldn't work economically or practically. Plus, you've got questions like whoses going to decide what and what form of government will take over. Also, there are too many people who will resist change from where their beliefs stem from.
To respond to 3ntropy.. think back when America bought louisana (sp?) There was the problem with the federalist and anti-federalist, and it finally was decided that the Consitution was still in affect it was just over a larger area. Well the government would maybe be then just have another branch in the government. The real problem would be with laws... and the judicial system. I mean in one country, stealing something, chop off your hand, or death, or a small fine. Or drugs for instance, same deal there. But then again... think of Afghanistan... the taliban took over adding to their force etc etc.. but a small pack held out and kept fighting. It would probally be like that on a much more higher scale.. someone is always trying to overthrow something.
tedob1, I don't really know a whole lot about the WTO, what exactly do they do that causes so much destruction?
yes, i definately think that all the countries are going to join or at least are "going to be" joined. it the NWO (it called the new world order) its still a conspiracy. i think the dictators of this new world would be the Majestic12, the Illuminatis, the FreeMasons (which includes the our dictator Bush). i dont know if its true but it has been said that there will be a attack by Ufos (or you can call them 747s that crashed into the WTC. i am not saying they were UFOS, its sopposed to be some kind of metaphorical meaning). anyway the attacks you lead to fear in people's minds. for there safety people will do anything, even give up there rights and freedoms (like the right to privacy). its going to be like hell, every one will be tracked using Implanted Chips you are hearing about. also remember the FBi spyware like CARNIVORE, and Magic Lantern. this is part of the reason why i support anti-capitalism.
"this is just the beginning, the worst is still to come."
Tedob1 -tell us more about the wto
I don't thnk so, humans are dynamic, and so, theyr living enviroment must be dynamic, ever changing, and exspanding, if you put all your eggs in one bag, you have an anoying, safe and very boooorign bag that will threatn with civil war un up-heval.
Don't know where the bag came from bet hey....
Nice post..

Im with you freakdaddy.
Are we headed for a Single Gov't for the Earth - Yes.
The real question is not if there will be a single world government, but what will that gov't look like. Will it be a Dictatorship backup by military power? A Corperate Domianted system? A Federalist system like taht of the US? These are questions we need to think about now, before someone else makes the decision for us...
And Tebo, I guess bringing the World Standard of Living Up, Life Expectancy Up, and Infant Mortality Down are not enough reason to keep Globalisation going...
I for one don't think that this will ever work for the simple fact the humans crave power. Think of it this way. Fidel Castro started out for very good reasons but he became power hungry and turned his land into a dictatorship. Now no government is perfect so how is one government going to run the whole world. This would also cause multiple acts of terrorism everyday because you know some people will plot together and try (or will) overthrow the government. This would also cause numerouse revolutions and many wars. Now you might say that there would be no countries to fight but large groups of people will band together and revolt, thus causing more problems. This idea sounds good in theory but will never work under real circumstances.
There are to many world powers and what I mean is countries who posses mass destruction weapons.... It would seem logical that big countries will fight a major war until they are left in ruins. Before there can be a one world government though some things would have to happen first...
A) Diseases Cured/ Suffering Ended, such as Hiv, (which includes Aid) Flu, starvation, malnutrition.. and the world would all be "online" and simple things like land disputes are of no need, and everyone is happy and there is no "real major problems" this would probally be about the time humans start conducting massive space colonization.
or most likely
B)WW III and World Powers are no more.. and people must band together for the greater good - survival, until things become like option A.
Far fetched? Think about it.
When the voice from the dark says TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER
Bet we figure out something quick .
Blackhole i agree with you partly and i think a one world goverment it's closer than you it's just a round the corner and it wont be good even if it has the apereance
open your eyes because the world is changing and things are passing quicker than what you think
I dun think we are headed for one government. I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell it could ever happen. There's only been 2 empires that have even come close and these were the Egyptians, can't remember the last time I prayed to the god with the goat head so they must not be very big anymore, and the Nazi's, "all hail...." what was his name again? You could say that these two nations were both based on evil for the most part and then you could bring up that the U.N. is supposedly based on 'good', which I whole-heartedly support the U.N. don't get me wrong, and therefore an organization which everyone considered 'good' has more of a chance to take over the world, but there has to be some point when theres a change from taking over the world (for your own sake) and taking over the world (for greed) and I think everyone would realize that. Besides that, unless there are some BIG changes in our Constitution and/or some ammendments added we couldn't do it by our own laws if we wanted to and couldn't let anyone else either. And I relize this is the wrong forum for this statement but there is the fact that GOD wouldn't allow it.
Uzer -
I need to correct your history here -
The Romans were very successful world wide (at the time) emmpire...
So did the British...
The Chinese...
The Spanish...
The USSR...
Now the US has done it....the only difference is that the US hasn't used outright conquest, but rather a form of Cultural Imperalism... Is that any better? I don't know....but it looks more durable.
As for the God, most empires are based on Religion of some kind.... and last time I checked God didn't come down to earth to smite any recent empires....
Official request: Ennis, could you please move this to Cosmos? ;)
IMHO, I think the one world government is already in power. We are just blind to it. In this world there is a group of people that control the worlds economy, therefore the worlds governments. They control the oil of the world and own more than 50% of the worlds trading markets. They have the power to give or take money from the worlds markets, thus causing prosperous times or resesions. Most of the top corporations in the world are also directly controlled by this organization. Organizations such as the worlds media. The news you, I and everyone else hear are merely propaganda that is fed to the worlds ears to keeps us "ignorant" of the true worlds hierarchy.
Examples of some people in this group include the Pope, Bush (father and son), Saudi oil sheiks, AlÃ* RodrÃ*guez-Araque (Secretary general of OPEC), and a select other few "elite" members.
Together they use the militaries of the United States and Europe to control their interests.
Iraq saw the use of this force not to long ago under Bush's presidency. They invaded oil rich Kuwait and thus disrupted the itinerary of the "Elite" group. Therefore Bush responded with brute military force.
The only thing that prevents them from taking over completely are the "Rouge" nations of the world. Although they will slowly be either forced to join the "New World Order", or they will be destroyed by the "NWO's" army and have their leadership replaced by someone more "suitable". (Afganastan)
Welcome to the world as it really is.
Just a theory of mine. :)
I'm not a conspiracy guy, but, for
those of you who are:
The John Birch Society
Its time to move under ground then :)
Blackhole, if I may make an observation, you've been playing too much Deus Ex.
As for the rest of this One World Gov't, how many people here have read the Left Behind series?
In one way that you choose to read the Bible (I realize that many people do not subscribe to Bible prophecy, but IMHO) it states that there will not be a one-world government until the Antichrist unites the countries. If you hear anything about a seven-year treaty with Israel, it's time to be afraid.
SSJVegeta-Sei
Im not real big on the bible, but Maybe the 7 year treaty with israel will be with the palestianians.
Although in the end it is inevitable, I think it will be a long time coming before we have strong world government which people respect and are not afraid of. Look at the continent of Africa. Many people ask why Africa isn't one country instead of dozens. The problem is that there are not enough common interests to unite them into one country. Sure, they could function as a confederacy (united, but with a weak central govenment) but there would certainly be civil war. Apply this theorum to a global scale, and it is easy to see why a world government would not function well any time soon. Countries must first develop similar interests and work with each other as separate entities before any move toward a world government can take place.
P.S.: cwyk9--Bill Gate$ already owns the world, and there's nothing we can do about it... ;)
