HTML and webpage

Well I know this is probably going to sound like a newbie question however this is the deal...

I have decided I want to make a webpage from scratch using HTML however I don't know HTML I was going to use XML however I have no references for it...not only that but I hear it is only a dynamic add in or something along those lines to streamline HTML. But to continue...

I registered the http://cybermagellan.tk address and want to put something on their besides pictures of girls that I download from other places....(right now I am using the geocities and the little HTML that I do know to do it.) HOWEVER I noticed http://bonfire.tk and I got jelouse with the Flash beginning (I think it is flash) but I want to do something so I am taking a type of poll.....

1. What would be a good, wanted topic (besides porn) that I could do a webpage about?
2. Is there a good resource on the internet for learning HTML? (I keep running into college courses about it and that is annoying me I have a higher inteligence than half of people with degrees, I am in the military and you should talk to the officers here)

I really appreciate it and would love to do this so if some of the more experienced people would help out I would be grateful

I also like the O'Rielly book on HTML (25 to 35 USD). Do a webpage on something you find interesting.

My site isn't porn now just some hot looking women.....just cause I thought it would be nice so that they aren't on my computer anymore and the .tk doesn't come up on our firewall at work so I post all my pics there

Get webdwarf for free, make pages with it and then analyse the html it produced, you will figure it in 10 minutes if you ever programmed.

Yes well I have never programmed as much of anything I mean I know like a little HTML and I had made a whole OS for my moms old 386(made with BASIC) however I never got into anything like c++ or JAVA or any of the other languages

For a website idea, do it on a hobby, or information you could share that not many people may know about.

Personally, I like Sams books...Learn HTML in 24 hrs. I am not a programmer, but I found that book easy to follow. I was able to create a simple web-page quickly with it.

As far as a topic, maybe you could do something for your mil. division (if it's allowed)...possibly a site for friends and relatives to visit to keep up on you...that way you should get a constant supply of new material

hmmmm the intro to bonfire.tk looks like it was done in swish - no offence free0n if it wasn't :)
swish is good for a beginner but has limitations to what you can accomplish - IMHO get a copy of Flash 5 and start having some fun ;)

You should try to do a webdesign site showing your experience in learning and in the same time, helping others. just a thought :)

CyberMagellan, the best way to learn Html is to look at a website and view its source. Compare the source with the webpage and see what tags do everything. THis is how i learned HTML and i waz about 11 when i learned HTML so i don't think it will be very hard for you.

Yeah I am learning loads from doing that...

HTML is very easy to learn and xpaciscool is right - just browse around tons of different pages and check out their source code for the site. The HTML will be listed, along with some scripts such as JavaScript and VBScript, but code written in languages such as .ASP will not appear on those pages. However, that won't affect you because you just want to learn HTML. Start out by using a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor to learn the basics. You can generate a page in the editor, then take a look at the HTML code behind your page. Then, when you get a feel for it, get a simple text editor (hell, Notepad will work) and start to create your pages manually using the tags.

As far as a site topic, what about computer security? You must be interested in that since you are on this site, so that might be a start for you.

HTML is easy to learn... Buy HTML for dummies.... With that book you should know HTML inside and out in about 3 days or less...

800x600 is the old standard and although still one of the most popular alot of people are surfing at 1024x768 and it seems that alot more people will be using that soon than 800x600 - so thats why i decided to switch :)

www.webmonkey.com has all you need to know. And even backend programming. There topics and tutorials will get you started. Those are the 2 I rember. A hint when your doing html, learn basic CSS/stylesheets it allows you to change colors, fonts, scrollbars, etc very quickly instead of having to change everything in your html by hand.
