Whats your favorite antivirus program. Mine is McAfee. My second is Command 95. How about you?
I am a cheap bastard so I use free stuff... As long as it works and has free updates, I run it!
This is were I get most of my free stuff :
http://www.webattack.com/
I sometimes use the Infamous google.com
I never use P2P for apps...
I have used Norton AV for many years, and it has served me very well. I also have used Innocolate It from Computer Associates when it was free, but it is not free anymore...
However, when it comes to virii and Trojans, not just one type of AV is going to be the answer to all your problems. You might want to also consider anti-Trojan...moosoft has a nifty program to find and detect trojans, and it is called The Cleaner. It too has served me well over the years, and was worth every cent.
I had used Norton for several years until the 2000 model blew my OS out twice on the first automatic update try, couldn't get a carbon-based lifeform anywhere at Norton... So, I got Panda Platinum online, they gave me a link to their download site for a copy until my disk arrived a few days later. Panda-Borg works very nicely, extremely configurable, doesn't use too many resources, works fast on it's scans and "phones-home" to papa-bear every day for AV-signature and program updates. It has caught three or four attacks that got past my friends lesser AV programs. Recently I had to reload my 'puter from format, and Panda reloaded like a champ with the original username and password they gave me on original purchase. That was nice, quite unlike my firewall (ZoneLabs Pro) that wanted to know my original receipt, creditcard number, date of purchase and something else before they'd issue me another "rolling-registration-number", so I used the original ZaPro disk for a frizbie and bought another firewall from someone else. But back to the AV... Panda is my choice, I'll renew that product every year. :D
InoculateIT has been wonders for me. But alas, all things must (or may in this case) come to an end.
I'm thinking about switching over to GRISoft in a while. But not sure. like Scorp said: I am a cheap bastard so I use free stuff... As long as it works and has free updates, I run it!
Grisoft works good...
Use the .cz site for update, it's somewhat less busy then the us one...
I just installed Antivir for XP, my GF has is and it looks good...
There file scanning process is called Luke FileWalker ( A nice touch in my mind... lol )
I tend to cruise all the "free online" ones, when I'm worried enough to scan... but, given that I've had both NAV and Mcafee refuse to find EICAR in the past, I've not been terribly inclined to give them any money (though I must also say that I know that more recent versions of NAV were successfully able to locate EICAR - I'm not sure I've revisited mcafee though).
I use McAfee.
I use Norton Antivirus and McAfee Antivirus......
System_0verload
Kapersky AVP. Since the Russians are so good at reverse engineering and pirating. They should be good at AV software. It uses very little resources and has always detected and captured all my tests and the real thing as well. It runs great on my XP box. They make a version for Linux since the mainstreaming of .rpm's now. So have some others.
I use Norton.
everyone says they use norton. I like norton (because it is very good at detecting and deleting viruses and easy to use) but I do not use it because it does not scan the C:\_RESTORE (I have Windows ME) and that is where all the trojans hang out on my computer. I use McAfee VirusScan 6.02 because it is easy to use, accurate, and scans every file on My Computer (system restore files where I find all the trojans). I also use Command AntiVirus 95 because it can be configured (which I did) to scan all files on My Computer and it also detects trojan files that McAfee doesn't. I use a trial copy of Command though, and I think my 30 days is going to come to an end soon. For firewalls, I just downloaded a free copy of ZoneAlarm and I am finding out to see if it is any good.
I used to download free stuff too until I kept getting virus attacks. I went out and bought McAfee VirusScan 6.0 Professional (which I updated to 6.02) that cost me $60.
AVG is ok, have had problems with it on some Win Me machines(but Me was a dog)
e-Trust also ok, seems a bit resource hungry, like AVG we threw a few rocks at it and it gave them the flick.
Trend Micro- PC-Cillin, ok also BUT have had problems with IE6 crashing when it installs its updates, currently 100% of time.
NAV 2000 - I purge my computers of all Symantic software. curse them for this piece of pox. Is itself a virus.
NAV 2002 - is better than OK, currently my recommended AV for our clients..
for a free AV, AVG seems fine, dunno with IE6 and XPee.
But if you want to spend $ then NAV2002.
cheers
I use my brain. Haven't been infected with a virus at all. Amazing what a little common sense, and avoiding email programs that attract virus writers. :)
Trojans on the other hand, I scan for. With MooSofts "The Cleaner".
The best way to avoid viruses are to use the brain and avoid suspicious filez. I use Pegasus mail (free and good) in combination with Norton AV 2002.
Another good AV program I can recomend (for business users) is Antigen AV (for Domino and Exchange).
i use trends pccillin or command antivirus, for trojans i use the cleaner, or the trojan first aid kit, firewall consists of zonealarm and Blackice.
ive only been hit by a VX once and it was Klez with CIH embedded, and that was norton AV 2001 that got fuked up (klez disables Vx scanners) and that was not on "my" computer it was my g/f`s
preep
I thought that TFAK was a trojan..multi client? or have I missread some info?
Cheers
huhu! I use v3+neo it's free and fast

Command AntiVirus is my favorite
Best AV is a user that knows what not to do, and has a bit of common sense, that said I use NAV2000 for regular scanning and e-mail scanning before its filtered to accounts for the rest of my family who lack common sense!
I used to use Norton AV 2002 together with Norton Utlities and Crashguard. But sinse i'm running Win 98 and Norton AV 2002 is designed for XP i't ****ed upp.... and slowed down the system ALOT, so now days i just try to use common sense and be resonabl.
I used to use Central Commands AVP wich i belive ivs now known as AVX, i think its still good.... also i know that Nitrous AntiVirus is good, it can be found at www.nitrousonline.com , hes actualy a good friend of mine, decent coder, and not a bad simple antivirus
I use Norton Antivirus 2002....it has great support, a wide arrange of features, and it's easy to configure.
I use AntiVir Personal Edition,
its free and quite good I think.
In some cases of emergency I prefer F-Prot,
click on the English button to change from German language.
I use Norton 2002 and so far so good.
