For a lot of people, one computer is just not enough. Many people have some to use for WebServers, Practicing On, and everything in anything. I have 3 computers for One to use, The other for a WebServer/FTP Server/Mail Server and a third to practice skills and use to hark around on. How many does everyone have and what are their purposes?
I have four machines. 2 linux servers and 2 windows PCs, one for my gaming, and the other for anyone who comes over to play on the phat pipe I pay for (250 bucks a month for the second highest level that Tampa Bay can offer a business).
Athlon XP 1800+ running WinXP to watch your whiney posts.
Athlon 800 running Suse to experiment.
AS/400 with a total of 600Gig of HDD to look l33t in my living room (too bad the thing doesn't even boot)...
I have 13 computer... Some are for testing programs. Some are used as servers. One computer is used for games, and the last computer is used for work... Only 2 of my computers are running windows, and they are my game, and work computer.

Well I have 2 that I own. This one that i use for general stuff, surfing the net, learning linux and uni work. The second is one i Picked up second hand that is nakered, i use it to learn on, at the mement its up and working and for a short time i had it networded to this one. However I stoped using it like that, now i buy second hand hardwere and stick it in and try to make it work, also I try to kill that one, I do my best to f**k it up then try to sort it. That for the computers I own, other computers i have access to are my parents as they live in the same city, i go round and help them out and try to teach them a little bit. Finally there is my g/f she lets me play around with her computer as long as i dont break it, she mainly uses it for games so that what i do on it.

Athlon 1.2 uber system to much to go into, suffice it to say I've got an Adaptec 29160 and a few 36 Gig drives. (for games and B.S.)
Ultra 5 (cause I wanted it. and it's my firewall :thumbsup:)
P2 450 - for infecting and trashing, and I have seperate HDD for my boys to play on. (cause it's Intel.)
Mac 8100/100 for the 2 year old. (cause it's a Mac) hehehe.
Dell laptop Cpx w/ 512MB 60 gig hdd
Dell poweredge 1300. cause the price was right, I'm setting up a webserver for when I get my t-1, not going to happen soon, however. I'll probably run the webserver/database/whatever the hell I feel like on this one.
Let me look around I have some old, old systems too that work and are basically just heaters when they are on. Just some things to break and put back together....

I have 2 pc.
An old Win 98 for some easy work and to experiment on a network, the other is an athlon 600 with XP, I use it for a lot of things like games, netsurfing, various utils experiments and so on.
I have no money to extend my number of pc's. So... I use what I have
Too many... a total of 14, though I use 10 on a frequent basis.
- 2 IBM AIX UNIX machines (one server, one workstation)
- 1 Intel P3 Linux NAT/Gateway/Firewall
- 2 Intel P4 Linux workstations
- 1 Intel P3 Windows 2000 Adv. Server (for SQL and Exchange, etc.)
- 2 Intel P3 Windows 2000 workstations
- 1 Intel P4 Windows XP machine (just used for games, music, web-surfing, etc.)
- 1 (brand new!!!) Intel P4-M Windows XP Dell Inspiron laptop
What can I say? I'm a computer junky. :D Actually, I do a lot of consulting, etc. and need serious processing power often, so I figured, since I have the money, why not spend it on something I can use to make more money? Sure beats buying games or something.

Here goes nothing i have 5 computers as of right now but soon ill only have 3.
the main computer is a alton mb with 2 pentium 3 1 gigs 768 megs ram 80 gig hdd w/ win xp and i use it at home. the second computer celeron 333 w/ win xp is in the kids room for school and games 3rd is the wifes laptop p2 233 w/win xp and the other 2 are rebuilds for 2 familys that need a computer for their kids in the area and i donate them for fun. all on wireless lan.
building coputers is a hobby and to date i have donated 18 computers to familys that cannot afford to buy new.
my wife i on my case to build a workshop behind the house for the computer shop
Yes, an eclectic bunch I must say. Trying to remember what i did to what seems to be the biggest hurdle. Tech support over the phone to my wife or 10 year old so they can undo what I did the night before is always fun.Quote:

I only have two computers (all that I can afford). One is an iMac 350mhz CPU (can't remember exactly how much RAM at the moment but it is loaded fairly well) which I use for graphic design and games. The other is a Compaq Presario 333mhz laptop which I use for programming, testing, and whatever else. I wish I had the time and space to setup a home network but I don't have either at this time, maybe someday!! LOL

I lose track. I build and maintain systems and outsource IT services to small business's that can't afford to hire full time IT personell. So I usualy have anywhere from 5-15 puters on hand and parts enough to build a few more if needed. As far as my own network I just revamped it after switching to Tux 100% on my personal workstation. I still have to have Win boxes though because of my clients. So here is my current round up on my network.
1. PII 450 Windows Advanced 2000 Server.
1. AMD K-62 550 Win XP Pro.
1. Athlon 700 WinXP Pro / Linux (Mandrake) dual boot.
1. Duron 900 Win 98SE
2. Celeron 900 Win XP Pro
1. Duron 900 Win XP Pro
1. Athlon 950 OC'ed to 1.1 GHZ Linux (Mandrake) (My personal box)
1. Athlon 900 Win XP Pro (My assistants box)
On a Linksys 4 Port router with a Linksys 8 port switch.
Then my take along. A PII 266 Laptop running Win2000 Pro.
Thats it as far as my own stuff.
i have a duron 700 running windows Me, for games (pity it cant run medal of honour), i have a p120 with windows 98 SE for my family, im returning a 486 into active service once i get some more "bits" and im gonna run redhat 5.2 without x and and install apache, and im thinking of buying a newer system, to run either slackware, mandrake, or redhat (the latest disto`s) and im gonna have to fork out for a router, or convert my old 486 into one.

well lets see, I've got 3 1st generation mac's for bragging rights I've got an old Emonster P500 (still the fastest running puter I have) for games and surfing ans what not, a 900mhz HP that is slow as **** that i use for cursing and screaming at, and 1500mhz sony viao that I use for absolutley nothing, (has anyone ever tried to get linux on a viao) I guess it has a use then, getting my heart rate up as I kick it across the room.

Home ah...can I count the stuff in the attic? :D running @ home from gig plus sys to oldest on-line P133. Systems from access work testing 10 different flavors of linux a few Win 2k and how to wean the company from MS. Sorry live up to the ISP agreement no servers @ home....they can see..laptops hummm forgot who's lap on top of they are on. Guess I just throw stuff on-line see what happens with what and watch a visitor or two now and then..:D mostly I like the Bar-B-Q out back in nice weather. What is the point lol there is none other then a nice day after 16 hours of W2K server just one did not have time to enjoy my rare sunny this part of the country day.

i got this kick ass 4.88mhz ibm pc/xt w/10meg hd and a whopping 640k of mem (hey.. even bill said that's all i'd ever need) running ibmdos 5.0. with a mosaic browser and this radical external 9600 baud modem..
i have a network of 30 comupters.. 1 a ghost server, 1 main server (win2k Adv server).. 1 security server(win2k Adv server).. 1 on redhat and the others are just Win2K pro workstations... and i set em all up all by myself :)

a lot of things.. mainly practicing my Networking skills.. and testing some Network Security stuff..
working with a large network compared to a small network has a huge difference.. and im not the only one running that network.. sometimes my instructor drops by and asks me if i could test something or some classmates drop by to polish their work (or play CS hehehe..) or try some hacking techniques..
there are 6 tables on the room and each table has 5 computers.. and one table on the end of the room which has the Ghost server and the main server.. and a cabinet.. patch pannel..
