Negative AntiPoints
I believe that every thread a user starts or responds to should get a maximum negative or positive antipoints. Thus, this would eliminate the current problem of people getting to many positive and negative antipoints for a thread. Just to think of number from the top of my head, I would say -50 to +200 AP's per thread a user starts or responds to. However these numbers aren't set in stone and this is only a suggestion.

I definetly agree. I've seen to many times that if a newbie gets 1 neg hit, there are dumploads more "offloaded" on the person. I think you should only be able to get a limited number of antipoints for each post. This way someone won't be banned over one post.

go davey!!!!! woo hoo! i totally support this
-
Sounds like a good idea to me. Would get new people from getting negative pointed into oblivion for just one or two bad posts. I would set the limit for negative points from 75-100 per post though.

Good idea. I support and hope it works.
w00t!

I would like to point out that I agree with game, as a newb with few posts under my belt and even less APs I am very careful what I post, because I for one like this site and would not like to be banned anytime soon.

I think it's a great idea.

I don't think it would work too well, real jerks would just find other posts and assign antipoints to those. That, and would that only protect the thread starter, not participants or subsequent posts by the same person?
Here's one to try tossing out: After a certain time, threads start to become 'stale', and as they do so, any points given within the thread count for less and less until the thread is officially 'stale' and points can no longer be assigned to posts within it...

I was just going to say the same thing, Terr. Excellent idea GameMaster - but Terr does have a point.
-
Terr, I like your idea. Thanks for your added suggestion.
-
yep terr has a really good point that ppl would just find other posts 2 apply antipoints 2
i like the "stale idea" :)
-
perhaps you could even go so far as to have it so that a specific user could only recieve X amount of positive antipoints a day and X amount of neggys in addition to terr's idea. then people couldn't just go and distrubute antipoints, come back, and do it again to another of their posts in the thread.
-
These are really good ideas and I hope that they are implemented. Good luck on that. Maybe you guys could take it up with a moderator or something, or an admin.

I don't like the idea of limiting antipoints for specific threads/posts. If you make an stupid post then you should face the consequences, otherwise what's the point in having the system in the first place? Some threads might get you banned straight away (e.g. if you said something *really* insulting to JP or indeed any other AO member - I won't give an example because some stupid newbie will probably repost it, but you know what I mean).
I like Terr's idea of stale threads, partially because some of my threads from months ago have just recently been bumped up to the top of the listings. Some of the things I said then I would never write now (my arguments with Negative is the main example), so I don't think that I should be given positive/negative antipoints for them, although I suppose that it would be fair to do so because I did write that and time is really an excuse.

I agree with gamemaster and terry over the limit of antipoints and the stale accounts. But, pwaring is also right when he says that some threads "should get you banned straight away". An idea is to give senior members or higher the privilege to assign over the limit antipoints and to few people the power to directly ban.

Greetings All:
Ok, our new "Suicide Threads" now helps to make sure that these types of "AntiPoint Floggings" don't get too harsh.
Thanks for the suggestion gamemaster!
