Just curious if Dell has a track record for faulty computers? I'm thinking about getting one.
not as far as I know, I have a dell workstation with win2kp and its only crashed maybe five times in a year...which considering how much I use it is damn amazing. Every dell I have ever used worked just fine.
Umm... no.
I'm on a dell optiplex gx100 right now at work. We use them for workstations and havn't failed yet. They use win2kpro and have an uptime of near.. oh .. 4 months? Without a glitch.
Dude, your gettin a dell! hehe, couldn't resist.
Dell's are excellent computers! Don't get a [pong]Hewlett Packard[/pong] or [pong]compaq[/pong] get a dell or build your own it's much cheaper and fun!
My experiences with Dells as desktops computers have been fine. They seem to make decent comps. :)
Hope this helps!

Dell computers have a good track record, and if something is wrong they have an even higher record for fixing the problem. By fixing I mean making the situation right.
But... building your own is cheaper :D
If you're looking for consumer PCs, Dell has the best track-record around, at least according to many studies over the past few years regarding the purchase and support of new PCs. I know PC World has been raving about Dell in their annual reviews of PC manufacturers for the last few years, and I have seen other magazines with the same results. Personally, I love Dell and would recommend them to anyone planning on getting a new system. I know the TechieChick has had some problems with Dell support, but, if you look long enough, there will always be people who have experienced problems with any system. Just my 2 cents.

PS: This thread (http://www.antionline.com/showthread...hreadid=230983) has some more opinions of various companies.
Dells are good. Im a repair tech and its not very often I see a dell
Dell is very reliable have over 50 workstations and like what was said if there is a problem they make it right. As for building always cheaper and M$ shoves XP at me much more and I'll just go back to building PC at work.

I've supported Dell machines in the past through one of their outsourcers.. They are generally good machines. I have just watched TV for the first time in something to the effect of 12 years, and I think the only fault of the Dell Corp is their ad campaigns featuring that "Steve" kid. What a nuisance.
Friend had a Dell and couldn't get the CD-RW to work, she called in a couple of times, couldn't get any help and within about six months she bought an HP. I have an HP and mine crashes maybe five times a year, I recommend HP instead of Dell, but if your looking for lower prices I would get a Dell.
To follow Jaguar's point, I, in fact had a few problems with Dells in the past. My experiences were, however, far different from his. Most recently, I purchased a Dell laptop and the hard drive started to give paging errors. I called tech support, went through some tests with them (which, of course, I had already done on my own, but I figured I should humor them), and they gave me a tracking number for a new hard drive they were shipping to me that day. The following day, I had the package. I removed the old hard drive and installed the new one without any problems. They even upgraded the size of the hard drive because I said that I did not want another Fujitsu (since that was the one that went bad) and so they said they'd send me an IBM, but they only hard larger drives. My other experiences were similar, one time, they even sent a tech to my home to replace the motherboard of a series of laptops because they had shipped a batch of laptops with faulty motherboards. In my opinion they're absolutely top-notch. As for HP... I'll spare you from the headaches I've endured with them (and Compaq, too, actually... interesting how the two manufacturers I despise most for home computers merged... at least now I only have one company I have to hate. :-)

wow, overwhelmed with the replies. Thanks a lot all. I've made my decision...I'm getting a dell. :D
one thing: Don't forget about Gateways... I think they pack a pretty big punch for the money...
As long as we're on the subject I would also like to recommend Alien Ware, I love those machines. Probably going to be my next box, here is a link for all those interested:
