Credit Card Fraud
I'm putting this here to get out the general information. Due the increase in Identity Theft and Credit card fraud. It is good especally if you use credit cards to check not only your statements monthly but a new on-line tool on a secure site you can check to see if your card number is known. Be safe be sane happy 4th and visit http://CardCops.com make sure you are the only user of your card :D

Yeah I saw that on CNN, kinda tripped me out, then it said that it doesn't need the exp. date to check your digits. . .
-
Hmm, I shouldn't tell you all this, but I've gotten in trouble for CC Fraud already and have been charged with eight counts of felony CC fraud, identify fraud, and conspiracy to commit. It's not something to be playing with, for real, and I feel very bad for doing it. I suggest to any of you involved in it, or wanting to be involved with it, to stray away. Yeh.

jehnx. . . . at least you realized your mistakes and try to deture others from following the same path. I admire you for that.
-
Thanks jehnex, takes much to fess up to such things and having lived it advise others "Don't Even Go There". Besides one can make more money ligit knowing what they do then a short term payoff and possible jail time. I admire your strength and courage to do what you have!

RogueSpy and PaleMoon: Thanks guys for the support and all. That stuff really kicked me in the @$$, and got me back on the right track, heh. Which is, of course, why I'm here now, at a _security_ site, trying (though not always succeeding) to help others keep their belongings safe. Thanks again for the props, guys. :)

Any time d00d. U'de do the same for us. :)
-
Wow, were you a minor at the time? If not, what was your sentence? Wild stuff man, glad it straightened you out though.
-
I'm glad that you straightened yourself out Jehnx. :)
Crime certainly doesn't pay. Oh wait, it does however pay a trip to prison.
-
jehnx... u da man... and u'r PINK! hehe... GO! JEHNX! GO!
u still are a CPCer aren't u jehnx? plzzz say yes :) we need g00d ppl :)

I had my card number stolen and used once. I was visiting San Fransisco at the time. The number was lifted off one of my reciets and used to buy all sorts of over the phone crap. About $350 worth in all. I only got some $300 back from the card company plus it took the cops nearly a year to catch the guy but I guess they did accually catch him. Its an incredible hassle to deal with CC fraud or identity theft at all.
I think there should be more safe gaurds built into Credit Cards. I'm all for making picture ID on every card and requiring a valid ID to go with it. These are just some thoughts though.

credit card fraud is becoming a major problem now days on the net could it be because of a lot of companys with microsoft products on their systems?

sw1g: I was a minor, yes, and I still am, hehe. I got in trouble, but not in as much as I should have. Either way, though, it was the first trouble I'd ever gotten in so, you know, it was still bad.
gurl: Yes, it does pay a trip to prison... I had to go take a tour, which might not seem like a big deal to you all, but it freaked the crap outta me and I'm usually a pretty hard person emotion-wise.
zion: Hehe, thanks, and yes, I'm still PINK! I'm doing editing for the University right now, just got four documents in today that I need to edit for grammar/spelling that we're gonna be putting up soon, but officially I'm still pink. Can't wait for it to come back up. :)
prod: Yeh, thanks bro. /me salutes back
Pale: I'm deeply sorry for ruining your thread with my personal business. It's fine with me if you would like to delete it and repost or something man, sorry again. :-/

while this is true...the flesh and blood servers are the ones i worry about... if you're using your card at a reputable website...it's probably still way more secure than when you pay for your meal a restaurant especially if you are travelling...or when you leave your signed pmt slip on the table and walk out of the restaurant...if it's busy it may take 5 minutes for your server to pick it up...plenty of time for someone to grab it...and then they have not only your # but your sig as well...

This is probably a legitimate web site but I just can't make myself put my card number into this site to see if it is known. I just seems like a credit card security risk in it's own right. Think about it a minute and then think about the bogus ATM scams that have happened in the past.
No way, I'm not doing it! If they get my number they would then have one piece of information they need to use my card fraudulently.

Identity theft is worse... that's when people get enough information about you to apply for a credit card in your name (the CC companies don't do enough to make sure of your identity) and then go on a spending spree. You only know when you get the bill for your 'new' card...
If you have a horrible credit rating in the first place, you're much safer than if you have a great one. :)

jehnx, I think you added to this thread more than you can possibly imagine. It is one thing for people to say don't do it, you might get caught; but to have a brave soul admit to having done it and having gotten caught adds a stronger plea to the argument. As you have seen we have lots of wanna be hackers comming around the site, you may have helped keep one out of trouble. *applauds*
Protect your personal information guys and gals. I always shred my old documents that I won't be keeping. Then I soak them in water just to be safe :) Still I am not safe...
