Nissan V Toyota
I will be getting a new car in 7 days for my 16th birthday. I am getting a nissan altima 2.5 175 hp yada yada. I also know that there has been controversy in the past about arguments whether nissan or toyota made better vehicles. well, technology is technology, what do you all think. Who is better, Nissan or Toyota. I will post a poll..
-
I'm personally not a huge fan of either manufacturer, but I have been in both, and I prefer Nissan's over Toyotas. They body style's nicer (in my opinion) and if "trained" properly, will outperform a Toyota (of similar make of course...). If I were to get an import (which wasn't a sports car), I'd personally go with Honda just because I've had very good experience with Accord. I think getting a Nissan's the way to go if it's a toss-up between the two.

I had Toyotas and Nissans (and a Datsun truck even :p ), and I likes the Nissan better. I drove a Nissan "hardbody" truck that lasted until it got reposessed 4.5 years later, and it never had one problem. God, I miss that truck especially when I have a crappy Ford Contour that has 130,000 miles with a transmission that's shot and a bad TPS... I spent thousands trying to get the damn thing fixed :verypisse

well, as far as i am concerned, i doesnt make a real big difference which one you pick, all parts come from the same factory, both get around the same amount gas mileage, body styles are similar to one point or another. it all just depends on what ur looking for i guess. Personally i like toyota *plz forgive me grampa, fanatical patriot* they seem to last quite long, and if you can find a nice one, that isn't beat on, are not too expensive and are just all around a better car in my opinion.
-
What I can't believe is that you're getting a f@#king car....I don't know if I'm jealous or if I hate American culture even more.....
"Do well @ school, sonny, we'll buy you the "f@#king world......." Bah!
-
hehe i agree again with you confirmed hehe great minds think alike hehe something like that
neway
nissan have the skyline and the 200sx so nissan wins hands down
what sports car does a toyota have bar the supra ??
rioter

LOL........
"Daddy has done very well on the farm this year, sonny. Lets all thank Mr Bush and his farm subsidies. What car would you like? Perhaps we could buy you a girl from 3rd world country for your 17th birthday......."
It makes me sick......Oh well, perhaps I'm just suffering from "sour grapes"..........

LOL - the boys from Oz strike again :)
You have to give him a bit of leeway, he is young, having a birthday, excitable and about to get a car :)
When he get older he will find the best car is the one that starts every morning, doesn't chew through the fuel and gets you to where you want to go .... and the one he will respect the most will be the one he pays for with his own hard earned cash !!
Enjoy your birthday er0k and drive carefully.

Well id have to go for the Nissan.
I've driven both Toyotas and Nissans and im quite happy with my Nissan Skyline ;) Ive wanted one for years ever since i saw one on "TOP GEAR"
MrC

How do you figure they get their parts from the same factory? Now if the question was Lexus or Toyota, I could see your argument (even Honda v. Acura or Nissan v. Infinity). Nissan and Toyota do not share parts at all. Also, Toyota and Honda are styled similarly, but Nissan has gone a complete different route with the new Altima.
As for my choice, I pick Nissan (I also have a 97 Altima). Toyota has a better resale value, and the styling is perfect for people over 50 (if they like extremely bland cars), but they have no passion. A Nissan will last just as long as a Toyota (or Honda) but prices tend to start lower and Nissan packs more horsepower in the base model than either Honda or Toyota.

what's funny is both cars are considered imports, but most of the part come from US factories... I think either one is good. don't buy american especially fords. I had a mercury myst(ake)ique spent thousands trying to get it fixed transmision, engine rebuilt, etc!
i got rid of it now I have a hyundai :)

thanks alot phat_penguin. i now realize that this offended some of you. i guess it was a bit braggarty. sorry about me just blatantly showing my rear-end. thanks for voting on the poll though everyone, now i can at least see what the reviews are ect. around the world.

Well er0k I will tell you this. Toyota's are very good cars likewise Nissan's. I have driven a Toyota corona back in the days and that car performed very well and did good on gas. I am now driving a 1999 Nissan Altima and to tell you the truth so far it is wonderful. Performs well and does good on gas.
Either way you go you will be getting a good car. However I tend to side with the new Nissan Altima 2002 model. It has a nice body, has been number one in its class for quite some time and even better its reviews are great.
Good luck with which ever you choose...

I love my Toyota... 200+k miles on it and runs great! But I don't think you will go wrong either way. BTW not all Americans get their vehicles purchased by daddy. I worked hard for my truck and jeep and purchased both myself.
-
If you're more of an import type of person, then I'd stick with Toyota, last long and come of them are pertty fast. Nissan has their own block of import cars/racers and I like their's also, but I like Toyota a lot more. For a first car I'll leave you off whatever car you want, it helps to have experience in different cars so you can take care of that dream car once you get it. My vote goes to toyota though between the two.
-
I don't think it's really fair to criticize er0k for his excitement. Turning 16 and getting your drivers license is a big deal, and it's cool that his parents think he has earned a car. It's nice if you can afford it, but I think my son is going to be pretty let down when he turns 16. But it's cool that you're getting one, and personally, a Toyota holds it's retail value MUCH longer than a Nissan, so if you think you're going to be trading anytime in the near future, a Toyota is the way to go.

LOL...I was just having a little fun. I'm a sour old man. Sorry if I offended, er0k....and Happy Birthday.

I was a great Nissan fan in the 1970s, and have owned Toyotas too.
Today Toyota probably has the advantage in technology, reliability,
and availability of parts and service. They are the undisputed
industry leader.
I still love my 1975 MG midget though.

Simply ARGH, 4 wheels and a way to get from point A to B. But to do so also requires Insurance another cost low grades mean more money = license and cannot drive cause of low grades. Will up you Rcgren my 72 MBG-GT, pesky SU carbs and all :)
-
I'm coming down in the Nissan camp here. I think as far as mechanics go, they are on equal footing. However, Toyotas are notoriously bad to develop body rust problems later on in life, especially if you live in the northern states where road salt is heavily used in the winter months. I hope you enjoy your new car, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

You are speaking with the number one 3l173 h4ck3r of SU carburetters in the USA.
PS I still have my 3/8 BSF spanner, my UNISYN, and my COLORTUNE, to set
the air/fuel mixture.

I just bought my first new car and looked at both the toyota and Nissan. I looked at the lower end model for both (toyota corolla, nissan sentra). I got WAY more room and features for the Nissan Sentra. Granted, what you getting is more luxurious, I'm sure you will love it as I do my Nissan!!
-
I like the Nismo-Skyline but nothing beats a Toy-GT1.
-
I was turning sixteen, graduating highschool that year, and asked my mother if I could get a car. She promptly kicked me in the @$$ and said "You've got a job, go buy yer own f@#$ing car!" I went and bought a motorcycle the next month..
I've had good experiences with both makes of auto, so I'm really indifferent to the two. I'd be looking for the economy factor, what kind of mileage are you gonna get and what is the insurance gonna cost.
-
From being in the business of cars, and living far north (Canada), we get tons of snow and salt here in the winter. While the Toyota's of old are notorious for rusting the newer ones are not.
I prefer toyota for the resale value, the look of them (exception the Echo LOL) the performance, the trouble free maintenence, and the availability of parts should you need them. Ie:car accidents.
While I don't disagree that nissan is also a fine car, I do not prefer the look of them nor do I find the parts easier to get. Here the costs of comprable models, Nissan is higher.
Many toyota cars are sporty and not just for the over 50 group. I have a 2001 Toyota Solara V6 2 door and it blows a lot of cars off the road off the line.
Nissan Maxima and Altima are both nice looking cars but I am not a fan of the Sentra.
In the end the way to decide is to give both a serious test drive and make sure you are comparing comprable models.
Happy Birthday and good luck with your choice.
-
Ok, now to talk purely performace divisions for both Toyota and Nissan. Do you want to drive a car with performance parts by TuRD (Toyota Racing Development) or Nissmo (Nissans performance division)?
I would be embarased having TuRD all over my car!
-
I have had both, and nissan has a faster car but it didnt hold up to me. toyota though makes a better car because i still give mine hell, and it wont die.

ah dont worry about it ck, you didn't offend me. and thanks.

Happy Birthday, er0k!
as for my $.05 (I'm Canadian, do the Exchange rate...heh), my wife and I have had Toyotas for the
past few years, the first being a 1980 Corolla. If well maintained, they're nigh-on bulletproof (ditto for the Hondas),
great mileage on the juice, and while not inherently the raciest cars out there ( good point on the styling cues
(see above)), they handle very well on the street and highway. Isuzu made/makes great vehicles too, although
all they do are trucks now... :(
Just go with what feels good for you, drive safe, and have fun!
