The worst OS ever
Ok everyone’s always giving their $0.02 on witch OS is the best. Well I want to here witch OS you think is the worst. Witch one gave you grief to no end and drove you to drink after receiving the umpteenth error message :)
For me it’s a tie between Windows 95 and Mac OSX. 95 on my 33mz 486 never worked well and Mac OSX; well lets just say I lost a lot of homework to various system crashes.
-
Win95, but I still use it because I have to wait for a new computer to get an operating system that will work well. I only have 32 megs o' ram, and win98 will suck all that up too quickly :( Never used a Mac, don't plan to, they don't look all that nice though everybody says they are great for personal stuff.
-
worst is win me .... i restart 6 times a day at least
-
MPE/ix -- Hands down. Absolutely worst OS ever. Although, security for it is pretty solid, who the h*ll would want to break into an MPE box?
I hate the 6 line file equations.
I hate the account/group/session crap.
I hate having to logging on with 2 passwords.
I hate the lack of any logical organization for files -- they all seem to just be thrown into one place.
Did I mention it sucks? The only redeming quality about MPE is that it has a POSIX shell! :)

The worst ever is WinXP Home. I bought it 5 months ago (God only knows why) and my registry has corrupted three times, It freezes during long downloads (i.e. Counter-Strike updates), and my profile has corrupted twice.
-
Windows 95 caused havoc for me
-
My (cheap) 2 cents...
Worst list (witn #1 being worst):
3 - Windows XP Home (if not properly configured)
2 - Windows ME
And the absolute worst OS ever!!! (IMO)
1 - Windows 95
I think any NT-based OS is the way to go if you want to go Win32. Otherwise, go with some variant of *nix.

I always had the most problems with fu*(in Win 98. It crashed on me at least once a week. It froze up all the time. How many times has windows had to rerelease this damn OS to sell it as even usable. In my humble opinion this OS is the worst windows ever made. Only after countless patches, upgrades, new versions, and the like is this is even worth the box it comes in.

Only crash once a week with 98 that is amazing. But the worst ever is 95.
I hate ME also just to many problems I have run into with every installation that I have seen....
-
My old OS. It had netbios and Microsoft File & print sharing open to the world. :p
A bad OS is an OS not maintained properly in my opinion.
-
dern ME
Windows ME became so messed up it would restart/freeze/shutdown at leats a good 4 times a day, and when i was actually doing something important, like 8 times just to make me mad...
Windows in general is just fun, now i run w2k, and soo to get the wonderful linux, so my 2 cent is on Windows ME, fa sho.
And, i know the problems did have something to do with me, just not caring after the first time it messed up. I agree with

Windows 95 hands down the worst OS ever...It makes me appreciate XP Home so much more.
-
Yeah, XP home is awesome. Maybe some people have problems with it, but not me. As for worst OS ever, i'd have to say Mac 9, it regularly crashed, and screwed up and ruined all my files. Don't know why it did that, but it did, and on a regular basis, so I gave up and got a PC, because I couldn't wait too long, I need a computer all the time, and I didn't know when 10 was coming out. So I now use XP home, and haven't had any big problems with it. Running like a dream come true.
-
Worst Ever:
Win ME...then maybe Win98 if you didn't update..no wait..Win95..because you can't do anything... Either that or my distro of linux.
-
OMG! Guess what just happened to my win95, it gave me about 4 blue screens, and then told me my explorer.exe was corrupted and to reinstall windows. Insane! You guys, this thread, jinxed me. Though I think it is fine, I am using it right now, it only screws up if I start using a web application, which I don't think I will for a loooong time.
-
I don't really have a worse OS ever, I never really had many problems with windows 95, I used to for 5 years with only 2 reformats. If I had to pick a worse one It would be windows ME I suppose because it sucks Up loads and loads of Memory and makes you restart often.
I have used linux in the past and enjoyed it, The only bad thing I would say is that it is to hard for first time users to use, but after learning how to use it, its great.
If I had to pick a favoutive I would say windows xp pro, Some people have had problems with it, but on my laptop and work pc's its great, Although when it crashes it does it in strange new ways.
-
win 95 all the way...but win ME is crash prone to hardware probs...i realized that when my cdr became a little dizzy
-
for me that would have to be the original windoze 98, ran it on my older box which now has 98 SE and redhat 7.2 on it, usually would get a minimum of 3 or 4 BSOD's a day and several of those little white ignore / close boxes too
second one (only just though) would have to be XP, but only because of all the trouble with drivers and software not working properly and its imcompatibility, apart from that setback i'd almost say M$ did a good job
-
All windows versions suck IMO. XP just sucks less ;-)
Nowadays I only use winXP to play games. I use Freebsd for everything else :)
-
Windows Me Windows Me
I miss the days of the Univac 1050-II
I miss the 70's too.......
tons of fun
-
Windows ME = Worst OS ever!!!
-
i got 95 sure its crap but after 6 years of fixing it constantly u somehow get 2 know what not to touch for it to screw up hehe i still say ME is the worst had it on my laptop for about a month be4 getting rid of it.. it still hasnt recovered

Has anybody else had this problem? My wife's laptop needed some maintenance, so I tryed to log on to my Admin account...for some god-awful reason it won't accept my password..I've tryed every pass I have ever used for Admin accounts and still nothing...any ideas?
Oh BTW, to stay on topic......Win ME hands down the worst M$ OS ever created..with 95 a close second..then 3.1
-
Millenium Edition. wow what a piece of s#it
-
Windoze 9x (I include ME as the last of the 9x series); m$ didn't start getting it half right until 2000, I feel that xp is a setback IMO. (network Plug -n- Pray anyone??) :killcompu
-
For my cheap $0.02 M$ Win ME
M$ should publicly apologize for ME.... what a piece of Sh*t.
-
I'd say a tie between WinMe and Win98
-
I think any version sux win 95, i have win xp on my r505 only because I'm having a hard time getting linux installed.
-
-
I would have to say that the worst OS's would be:
1) Win 95
2) Win ME
3) Win 98
We used to have a rule in our company that you would have to restart your computer before calling support. :)
-
Wow... I guess Microsoft take's a pretty hefty vote eh?
-
The worst OS I have ever worked with is Windows 1.0. Of course, this was the first version of Windows ever devised, but when you look at the menus, the over-hyped "overlapping windows" and clunky mouse support, it makes you truly amazed that up to WinME, was built on the "ride on top of DOS" idea. A few moments of fricking around with Win 1.0, you really had no choice but to go back to trusty ol' DOS. In fact, I'll have to give you guys some links to Microsoft nostalgia...
1) Some Windows history: http://inventors.about.com/library/weekly/aa080499a.htm
2) Windows 1.0 box shot: http://members.fortunecity.com/pcmuseum/win1fb.jpg
3) Article where box shot comes from:http://members.fortunecity.com/pcmuseum/windows.htm
4) Some screenshots of Win 1.0: http://internet.ls-la.net/ms-evolution/windows-1.01/
And I have to agree that MS did partially get it right with the NT series, but still has a long way to go...
-
I personally never had trouble with Windows ME, I got possibly two BSOD in a few months, I feel blessed, and am :). Worst OS: I hate Mac OS 9 like someone stated. I'm a tech helper at my school and I constantly run into freezes installing new software or just browsing the web. Netscape 3.x it just awful for it (with the experience I've run into).
-
for me win98 was the worse....crashed a few times a day
but now I have xp home (had it for about 7 months) I have had no trouble with it at all. It probley only crashed a few times total. I use it alot too.
-
The worst OS ever
my vote is tied
BOB and Windows ME have to be the worst ever!

ok, let me give youmy 2 cents. the worst in my opinion is windows 3.1 now that os is really sad, i remeber when i upgraded to windows 95 and i thought windows 95 was God compared to windows 3.1 now i look back and say 95 was just as bad as win 3.1 my favoriteos is mac os 9.2 it is awesome. i dont like mac os x very much. anyways, mac os 9.2 is just organized and is great for school work. it is really easy to use and again, it is just really organized. if you want to play games then get a windows os, but in my opinion, if you are going to just have a comp at your house for like basic stuff, then get mac os 9.2 or something. just my 2 cents, i am sure million will disagree with me, but i speak my mind
-
Re:The worst OS ever
Win Me, I had to reboot every hour, and format it every month, really sucky :)
-
I liked windows 3.1 it was simple and It worked (kinda)
The worst Operating system IMO is either Windows ME (i have a box running ME and everytime I try to run a program it gives me an unknown error) or Plan9 cause it's a peice of S*** for now but I hope that it becomes better because I like the name lol
The Best would have to be DOS 6 because it has never givin me any errors or had to be rebooted (it's 9 years old) BSD is also one of the best IMO because it's well unix and unix rocks. Linux not much to say about it, it works better than windows. Windows 2000 is also a farily good operating system runs well doesnt kill your system resources.
-
dos 3.3 or 4 or something ...i dont remember xactally, THAT was the worst
-
Worst is Win ME. Least Security+Major Exploits+Great Instability
