Geek-core Tattoo
I'm planning on getting a tattoo, at least at some point in my life, if not very soon. I've been geek to the extreme for a LOONG dang time, so I'm thinking something with geek signifigance, techie or computer related, would be right for me. Any suggestions? Any other geeks with ink? Any geek tattoos you thought you'd love forever and now regret?

Or the BSD Daemon. He's cool, too.
How about the OpenBSD blowfish? The one that ammo uses for an avatar. He kicks ass!
-
A 'geek' tattoo? Hmmmm....maybe get a pocket protector tattooed to your chest?
-
I'd go for a cyborg like design: www.hrgiger.com or something by louis rojo http://sterndaltraeume.de/Fantasy/louisrojo13.jpg
or perhaps /dev/null on your lower back...
I'd like to have the "old" linux logo l1nux or was it something with an italic i
edit: the italic i it is.. Linux

Barcode on the back of your neck just at the base of the skull.
Saying of your choice. In binary.
The waving MS flag. On fire.
Top of my head that's all I can come up with quickly...

You could always go for some anime figure....Dragonballz or something like that...but the coolest, i think, would be any of the quake logos :)

I have two tattoos, non computer related. I have a band on my arm, and a memorial tattoo on my left calf of an angel holding up a devil... I have seen way too many tux, and putting anything Microsoft on your body may cause as many problems w/ your body as it does for a computer... j/k a band in binary would be interesting or initials in binary. Tux does make a great tatoo, but you know. The best thing about a tattoo is originality, and it is really hard to suggest something original that would fit you as a person without knowing you. I would suggest doing some deep soul searching, and find something that fits you as an individual that you like very much, and go from there. If you do this, you will never regret your tattoo. Just trying to help you out...
-
I actually have (or am about to have, as of 5 PM EST today) two tats on my body. One is a bulldog on my right bicep and one is a customized superman symbol on my left shoulder blade. BatchFile is right when he says it is up to the individual person as to what you should get. Get something that embodies you, and something you'll like to see for the rest of your life. Personally, I chose the tattoos that have some sort of personal signifigance to me, not something that just looked cool.
I'd hate to make a suggestion to you, but I have seen quite a few geeks with ink have a barcode tattooed somewhere on their body. Hex is always good, cause you'll havea giant binary tattoo if you want to encode something significant in it...
Regards,
Wizeman

Okay, I got to thinking about it. Thanks for the suggestions everybody.. most of those sounded at least similar to something I'd do, except for the bardcode because that's pretty over-done. Not a big deal. Flaming MS flag would probably make me suffocte (ie: turn blue) every time i opened a window. And that's jst not cool. But I think this is:
I took the phrase "this revolution comes in binary."
then converted it to caps.
then converted THAT to ANSI codes:
84 72 73 83 70 69 86 79 76 85 84 73 79 78 68 69 77 69 83 73 76 66 73 76 65 82 89 46
put that in seven columns (after some fiddling)
84 72 73 83 70 69 86
79 76 85 84 73 79 78
68 69 77 69 83 73 76
66 73 76 65 82 89 46
Put each column together as one eight digit number
ie: 84796869 is the first column
THEN, took each of those numbers and converted them into Hex with my trusty Calc.exe:
50DE5C2
45655FD
466FAF0
4FF6735
43761CE
429060D
52C463E
So, I'm going to take that and use a font of letters and numbers that all fill up squares... and then i'll have a perfect quare of one of my favorite sayings.
But maybe I should keep the true meaning a secret. this of course is a bad way to start. Thanks for the input, all.

Hmm...that's very cool, but if the phrase is now in hex, it's not really in binary anymore. Maybe it should be "this revolution comes in hex".

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......................................................................................
how about you get a tattoo of a brain like the one off of www.toolband.com
*in case you cant tell im a fan*
-
or get the bsd devil with a tux t-shirt on now that would be original how many ppl could say they have that? just a thought i actually have 3 tattoos they aint painfully more annoying
-
F a tattoo get an intel inside branded on your neck!!!
just joking! i think the barcode is cool especially if you can scan it at the grocery store. it should be on your ass so when you jump on the conveyer belt the clerk can flip you over then scan you twice because the lazer can't read the code :)
-
You had to ask...
How about Calvin pissing on the M$ logo, you know the one you see plastered on every Ford and Chevy truck....LMFAO
:urinate:
-
I'd get the Caffeene molecule, it's the source of ALL Code :)
- Noia

I have a CPU at the base of my neck. In Binary it says LOVE.

I actually have a few tattoos myself. One I got while working at a public library. It is the barcode to my library card. I kept losing my card and hated paying the fine. So now all I have to do is scan my hand. I have two more but they are sports related. Good luck and be careful. It's like Joey_Batch_File said it is addictive.

I'm afraid of tattoes doent they hurt. =/
Plus my mommy would get mad at me.

tats
As a fellow geek who has artwork, be careful. It is REALLY addictive and expensive.
I have 2 tattoo's now. One is tribal on my shoulders, the other is kanji. I happen to really like japanese lettering, so it worked out really nice. I'm thinking of writing a small saying in japanese around my arm.
-
I am interested in getting a tech related tatoo sometime down the road. Anyone know any sites with tech-related designs? I searched Google and Yahoo and neither provided anything useful. Maybe I'll have to design one myself.
-
As long as you get something that means something to you, and its original, you're cool. I got on when I was 16. Big ugly skull, with big nasty sword going through it. Looked really cool when I was sixteen!! Honest!
On a side note, 2 years later I was at a friend's and noticed the exact same tatoo on some guys leg! (he got his after me so I feel better)
So not only is my tatoo meaningless, and ugly....its not even original!
haha
Good luck with the tatoo!
:D

You could try a part of an electronical circuit somewhere on your body.
Or a source code like the DeCSS code (I don't know if it is possible in USA!).
Or a smiley like :-0, :-), ;-)...
Or an ASCII image.
Or a Windows blue screen error message, lol, not this one.
It's all my ideas.
-
I like the penguin!!!! but get a good penguin!! :)
-
Mine's a circle with runes inside, the runes being the initials of my wife and I. Despite the discomfort, I will be getting more *hooked!*. The next one will probably be either a BIOS chip or a CPU "embedded" into my skin. Whatever you choose, choose well, and enjoy!

You better have a haircut w/c is "skin head", and put a Tatoo on your head in an African Snake style, colored red with a dush colored white.
It make's a lot of attention men......
-
Just have placed on your butt a logo that says best viewed with what ever browser or or OS you like, mine says Best Viewed With Netscape 3.0 or above..well on my butt don't have to look at it now do I? :) LOL
-
Once again being the TOOL fan that i am... i tell you about their artwork... go to www.happypencil.com
-
As it turned out, i decided to redo my idea... my hex conversion was just pain WRONG and the whole "binary in hex" thing was bugging me, so i rewrote the phrase to be "this revolution comes in hexadecimal" and then put it in rows, converted to hex.. the finished product is:
50CD657 4EDE1B7
494C469 4C1731B
4A19545 4B1474C
3EA4DB7 465BDC0
hopefully i'll have it done within the week.
(excited grin!)
what do you think?
-
hmm.. geek tattoo?
umm... 3 tats....
1 being your fav encryption algorithm... rsa can be short enough... (been done, but this would be part of a set)
1 being a base64, rott13, binary..... your choice for pseudo-encoding the passphrase...
and finally 1 being the cyphertext of some identifying information..uhh... name/dob/ssn ??
the algorithm and passphrase would be placed inside of your biceps? or some other inconspicuous locations... now the ciphertext would be the visible portion.... or all visible, but seemingly unrelated (diff fonts, text size.... )
not only would it be interesting, but also useful incase somthing bad happened to you, of course it would take some mental work on the side of the detectives, but it would be a way to identify your body.. family might appreciate that..
of course, you'd then have to check with feds to see if you could leave the country with that encryption algorithm tattooed on your body...
just a thought

tattoo's are the work of the devil. Repent now!
Jesus loves you.

to defile your body with retched tattoo's is a sin. You will burn in hell.
