What u spinnin'?
With such a wide-range of people here at AO of all ages | nationalities etc I was wondering what do you listen to while working?
I know I personnaly can't sit down to do any kind of web-design with out slipping on my head phones and cranking it up loud!!!
But I was wondering about the rest of you? Are you the same or do you prefere quiet background music - or perhaps you have to work in silence??
And if you do like music while you work - what kind?
The two that never leave my player at the minute are chevelle and RHCP's new albumn 'by the way'
well whats your preference???

I'm currently listening to Alice in Chains Grind - but when I'm sitting down for long hours banging away at the code, I'll usually throw on some dark jungle. Maybe a little bit of dark trance. That usually keeps me going. I actually have a playlist called coding. lol How many of you have a coding playlist too?
-
Well, to me I can listen to alotta stuff. I like metal, rock, and just a dash of rap. The only rap I like is Tupac and for metal/rock, Disturbed, Fozzy, Rammstein, a little Mudvayne, and a whole lotta other stuff. I listen to alot but I can't list them all here, too much to list. But you have the general feeling that I listen to rap and metal/rock.

I like to listen to music while I am checking the IDS logs and alerts or if I'm just surfin' the net doing some research or whatever I'm doing. It helps the time go by pleasantly. Lately, I have been listening to Bob Marley, and other times, I like to listen to Sade - very relaxing - sometimes just what I need amidst the chaos.
-
Hah, Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, Marco V, Sasha, Digweed, Oakie, Etc.

Music is my second hobby, so I'm in to everything. One day I could be listening to some hard rock, the next I'm pulling out some R&B to hardcore rap. I love music, so there really isn't anything that's out of the realm for myself. But I most certainly have to have some form of music cranking while working, that's a given...
-
KISS, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith..... I'm pretty much a classic rock kind of guy.
I also like to fire up Zapping (a Linux TV tuner app) and watch a little Doctor Who in the background.
-
Classic rock and heavy metal. Loud very loud! Keeps my attention focused on what I'm doing. Improves my concentration although that seems like it would be the opposite, it is what works for me.
-
well for general computer use i listen to a little bit of everything but when im coding its ussually to trance or jungle
-
I play the bass guitar,so I have an appreciation for just about all music.I tend to be partial to upbeat blues(ie. SRV and Kenny Wayne Shepard)when on the comp. though.
-
I like mostly rock and heavly metal. I got all kinda of rock on my computer, from Collective Soul to Slipknot. The only rap i like is Eminem. But i would have to say i like rock n roll the most. As soon as i am on the computer the first thing that i turn on is my music...it has to be on. :P

If I'm doing anything for school...or any kind of design, I prefer silence or minimal music. If I'm chatting or just surfing, I've usually got something turned up as loud as I can. (I'm in an apartment, so I'm fairly limited.)
Here's some of my most played artists:
Korn
Slipknot
Linkin Park
Lifer
Bush
NIN
Tool
Disturbed
Drowning Pool

Things I listen to:
Nirvana
Alice in chains
Rob Zombie
Prodigy
The SexPistols
Sound Garden
GG Allin.... Great punk band!
Ministry
I don't listen to rap much though DMX is ok.
-
Usually, mid-career Pink Floyd such as: Dark Side..., Wish You Were Here, Animals and, of course, The Wall. Occasionally, I'll pop in early stuff...Piper, Obscured and the soundtrack from 'More' (good luck finding it :) ).
While visiting AO, however, it'll be Moby's 'Play' or 'Rare' and (believe it) Kraftwerk's 'Trans-Europe Express' with the occasional bit of Massive Attack thrown in for good measure.
In the car, it's driving tunes (I have a 45 minute drive to get to work) like BTO, Clapton, and Tom Petty.

Boston! Anything by Boston...I love it all! Along with that any flavor of Arena rock from the 70's and 80's. Sammy Hagar and old-school Van Halen totally rock.
The problem is that when I am working I constantly have to stop to answer questions, so I don't get many days when I have extended periods of time to listen, but when I do I love to zone out and rock!
These kids today! ;)

Ok I don't want to start a whole antipoint thing here as I find them tedious and borring but I just thought that I would say a big thank you to everyone who posted their own opinions and preferences to this thread as this is what AO is all about!!! And as you can see yes some idiot did go around neging almost everyone - but that was soon sorted as I didn't want anyone to fell that at AO they would be punished for expressing their own preference opinion as that is not what AO is about....don't be put off by some idiot....freedom of expressioon is one of the last freedoms we have left!!!!!! Don't take it lightly :)

Depending on what mood I am in, if I am in a happy, content mood I will listen to the following:
Ben Harper
Something for Kate
The White Stripes
Spiderbait
The Strokes
Primus
If I am pissed off, I will listen to any of the following:
Metallica
Frenzal Rhomb
NoFX
Sepultura
Nirvana
-
i normally listen to anything political, for instance:
Propaghandi
The Coupe
Anti-Flag
Rage Against the Machine
System of a Down - there first cd at least
Dead Prez
Ice Cube
stuff like that, normally i dont listen to stuff unless it is entertaining and has meaning, rather than the rap about blunts, 40's, and ho's. that stuff gets old.
-
Nice to see people with variation in their music, there's nothing worse than people going 'I only to listen to <insert band here>'. Anyway:
Massive Attack
Fear Factory
Strapping Young Lad
Meshuggah
Radiohead
Dimmu Borgir
Mr. Bungle
Slayer
Tool
Anything that's different and interesting is good by me :)
-
R & B, keith sweat, sade, Luther, Freddie Jackson, Isleys, mixed with newer stuff like Ashanti etc.. My favorite is still Enigma ( the one with the red robed monk on the cover).
-
i mean i also like tool, nin, NOFX, nirvana, etc. i just seem to be more prone to music that is educational, as well as entertaining. but when you think about it, most music is made either for money, to express feelings, or for educational purposes. plus the occasional classical isnt bad for you either ;)
-
I spin up at work the following.
The Tossers
The Blue meanies
Less than jake
bad religion
sex pistols
GWAR
Then my boos gets to put his cds into the shuffle

I listen to 80's Metal and new Metal. I have over a thousand MP3 on my PC. I just fire up Winamp and put it on random. That keeps me going through the day.
