AO Newsletter #5
Hi everyone,
Newsletter #5 hasn't be released due to a real lack of articles. At this point I have 3 (if you include an editorial by me and a SNORT Tutorial by me). Which don't amount to a heck of a lot. I'm willing to extend the deadline to say October 4 if I can get some articles.
I'll admit it! I'm desperate for anything at this point. Pictures of the parade would be great. Please, submit something. The newsletter has the advantage of being able to be printed out nicely and kept for future use. And it can be fun.
So, please... submit something. Letter's to the Editor. Letter's to the Chat Nazi. ;)

Hmm...why not run a poll on the most helpful tutorials submitted this month to the tutorial forum and print the top 3? I love good tutorials!
-
I will do an editorial about the parade cause I am going..
Perhaps GG can write something on the parade too!
-
I'll definitely write something....Louie and I are hoping to get a snap of Brad on his tricycle....
-
I will try to compile (well, write) a brief explanation of the Telnet protocol and/or commands. I'm actually not sure what to write, but if anyone would like something specific, let me know.
-
I would like an article about how to do a security audit on a network.

find one and submit it then.

So, when is the expected date of #5 release??
-
Well if I had enough articles I would publish it but when you only have about 4 it is usually an indication that interest was waning. I'll put the 4 I have together and put it up later today but I may put on hold any further issues due to lack of authors

I've never payed attention to the newsletter for a few reasons. The main one is that I am still kind of new here and I'd like to see what all the forums are about. Can you explain to me what your looking for and for what purpose. If I can help at all, I will.
-
Generally the Newsletter looks for any articles, rants, raves, what-have-you on security. They can be tutorials, product reviews, etc. The advantage of the newsletter over the message board is that the newsletter is a little easier to port and you don't have to be connected to the web to read it. You can print it out in a nice format and read it at your leisure.
-
Is there a chance of me still being able to do a tiny product review for it, or is it too late?
-
Oh yes. If you can get it to me in the next day or so I will hold off til then. It'll be easier to add if you do it as a text file or word file and send it to me at [email protected] =)
-
Can we still send docs? or is it to late?
Or will they be used for later newsletters?
-
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing because I'm going to probably write it today and then send it today, but is it like too late? If it's used for the next newsletter, then that would be good. If there isn't enough articles for this one, save these articles, including the one I'm sending, and then just start promoting and finding writers for the next one. I'll definitely help promoting it and trying to get people to write. Oh, I also had another question. Are we allowed to write only one article or can we write more?
-
more?
You are allowed to write more, if you find inspiration ;)
MsMittens has to decide what belongs in the newsletter and what not
I have send a small review article to MsMittens today, I don't know if it's to late for newsletter 5 but I think she will be happy to recieve some writings.
-
Thanks Victor. I got your review. Generally, I rarely refuse articles and if you want to write a couple an issue that is fine. I don't mind that as long as you are original in your own work. That is generally the only thing I am concerned with.
And if you don't make it for one issue then hopefully it will be part of the bunch for the next issue.
-
Without doubt MsMittens, I'll have three items for the next issue. I went to my uncle's 55th surprise birthday last night, and had no idea I'd spend the night at a friends. I'll work on some articles right now. :)
