Is IRC down again or is it just me?

The backup server, which is hosted by liran, is at irc.linux-users.net but, it is down for a new install and won't be back up for a week.

Anyway, for now, you will have to find someplace else to chat. Some of us are gathered around the net at differnet places. Find us if you can ;) hahhahaa

actually a large portion of us have gathered at irc.differ.net, its a bit different but it works, most of the elitists however are on their own server.

but but, it seems like I can't connect to irc.differ.net....I must be doing something wrong. Then again, I am an irc newbie.

Its a good thing that I am on the elitists server already ;)

Do they have anyone else in their servers, or are they just sitting their by themselves saying... man, I'm so l33t... :P

If you can't get to it at first, its because the server is password protected. You gotta request it from either deb or soule.

Good, I thought it was just me. I started using a new client and thought I made some stupid mistake. If you haven't already, check out Trillian at ceruleanstudios.com. It's MSN, AIM, ICQ, Yahoo messenger, and an IRC client all in one. Saves a lot of time.

When I say "worthless sex talk", I'm referring to the last few times I've gone in and have seen a combination of newbie "chicks" hitting on the guys in the room w/o any regard as to the topics. As for the "worthless ****" as a whole, that'll never change and as for the other room, it's just dormant in there save the few hellos from the regulars like Juridian/Debwalin/etc.

I do agree that there's a lot of 'worthless' stuff in here but it's easy to skip past the messages that are blatantly useless. It's not "easy" to skip over off-topic stuff in a chat room w/o ignoring half the world. What's even worse is when it's only 2 or 3 people out of...oh...20 that're signed in. And I have even MORE of a problem when someone DOES try to start up a technical discussion (that's why it's there, right?) and they're avoided/ignored/ragged on.

Overall, no, I'm not a prude, rofl...it's just not worth my time to go to a chatroom that's concentrating more on everything else other than what it's designed for. What happens? The people that know their stuff go elsewhere or just sit idle in the chatroom w/o saying anything. Then someone comes in, totally new, and asks a question. They're met in some manner other than helpful (perhaps, I could be wrong), and they end up leaving, telling all their friends how lame the chatroom is. It's just like a restaurant. You can have 9 great times but all it takes is 1 bad time and you tell everyone you know, yet you'll only tell a few people if it's good.

*shrug* Sometimes it's fun, mostly it's not...that's why I only log in every couple of weeks to see who's on and if it's changed. Then again, that's my opinion.
