It's funny you should mention that.This was on the quick tips board when I logges in.
There's an unusually large mob of skiddys that download programs and post them in their share folder with the addition of a nasty little bug.The best way to solve the problem is don't use P2P software,but if you must,be suspicious of files if you only get one or two hits on your search for them,because just about anything that is any good will turn up a lot of hits.Also stay away from stuff that sounds too good to be true,because usually it is.Quote:

gghornet is exactly right - you should really try to stay away from things that may 'seem' like they are what you want - many times, they are not. Some people mislabel items that are available on P2P networks, giving the file-seeker the wrong information. Although there millions that use the file sharing networks like Kazaa and Morpheus, it is, from a security standpoint, best to not use those networks. You may end up getting a hold of something nasty when you thought you were downloading something completely legit.

That would be the W32.Supernova virus which can be obtained through Kazaa and Msn. You might seriously want to scan most of your files that you download off of Kazaa because any of them could be a potential threat. Btw, the title is Kazaa Virus. I hate to break it to you, but there are probably thousand, maybe millions, of virii on Kazaa.

IMO, Kazza is just one big virus. I stay away from it like the plauge. The fact that you got it while trying to do illegal activities should also teach you a lesson. Cracking is not condoned on these forums and is I think is just plain wrong. You got what you deserved. Next time go buy the program legally and you won't have this problem.

Let me tell you most p2p sites are filled with viruses and ad/spy ware. The fact you didn't scan the program before running it was your other fault. Any thing that is ment to crack or hack a program was made by some one with no knowledge of ethics, so it will most likely have a virus attached to it. a good lesson learned here.

ive had this virus before it is supernover and it is very easy to remove, either with a virus scanner or by yourself (it changes kazaas settings and shares your windowsdir/media folder and fills it with copies of viri to share across kazaa), first run msconfig and stop it loading, then close the program as it will be running (it goes under blaagh.exe desktop-shooter.exe burger something or other) you should notice its something that u aint installed. Then delete it from your windows dir (where the msconfig key was pointed at) and the viri in the media folder...once u done that then your done the virus is gone. Some versions of it sent if to your friends over msn so check that you havent infected your friends.

I'm sorry that you got a virus from KaZaA (or however the letter formations are) and I had also gotten a virus from KaZaA. I got hit with a Win32k virus, which also hit me to stay the hell away from KaZaA. KaZaA is starting to become a virus magnet, so in the future, I would stay away from KaZaA. Sorry, but it's just a suggestion.

That is some things, but not all. You need to clean the two registry file's it creates(in the kazaa section, and the run section of software), you need to continually remove the virii files from Kazaa, (which if isn't removed automatically upon download, can reproduce multiple times) you need to make sure that you remove Cheese-Burger.exe from the Windows System folder, and from the registry as well. There are multiple steps, to find them out, search most Virii Definition site's for removal instructions and information on it. Like I said, there are quite a few things you need to do to make sure it is COMPLETLY off your system.

here's a good pointer based on my experience with the same virus
don't download any files that are about 40k in size by [SN], as this virus goes under many different filenames, it gives you a false error message when you run the program and then replicates itself under different names all with the asme icon (the one i got had a hello kitty icon, you may know the thing i mean, its a cat)
if your anti virus is up to date it should be able to remove it as most of them detect it by now, AVG does i know that
<sarcasm>
by the way, i found another 'virus' that may be on your system, its called AOL (people refer to it as a virus as it modifies tcp/ip and other proto's on your computer when it is installed
</sarcasm>

the only keys the virus creates is one in startup and it edits the kazaa settings, once the virus isnt running u can change your settings back to normal in kazaa. Also it doesnt always go under the name cheese-burger.exe.Quote:

but like he said might be best off going to an anti virus site and doing it that way i might have forgot some bits (:

From my experience with p2p programmes like kazza, I avoid the words "full installer", "full game" and generally anything that has to do with full.
They are the best files that can contain viruses.
.jpg.exe, .jpg.vbs, .avi.exe, .avi.vbs, .mp3.exe, .mp3.vbs, -fulldownloader, 3-fulldwnloader, -full-downloader, -games-fulldownloader, divx-fulldownloader, 3-full-dwnloader-, -games-fulldownloader-, -games-fulldownload, pack-fully-download, .htm, .html, .url, .sys, .ini, .m3u, .xml, .vbs, .js, .bat, .eml
thats what i have blocked..

You're right about that.Although I do enjoy the free coasters they send in the mail all the time.The bottom line with Kazaa is if you download something,scan the hell out of it,after installing something,go through and scan all of the files that were installed.Then run a full scan on your computer afterwards.It can be a time consuming process,but that's the price you pay.Just for future reference,there's a lot more security risks than bugs that come along with Kazaa.
Hmmm.that's pretty cool.I just unintentionally created a link to laugh at mr. leachy.My apologys to anyone who gets a bunch of strange Emails.
Just run an up to date antivirus on software before you open it. Kazaa is growing with trojans and viruses.I downloaded a few myself before I got my antivirus.That is no reason to stop using kazaa if you just stay away from software.Cracks are alot of times trojans or viruses so try to stay away from those.I see you have alot of cracks on your computer.
Yea , Spyder is definetely right because there are definetely thousands and thousands of virii running through the p2p network.So , there is definetely not just one "Kazaa" virus.
