Web site used for floods
There was a guy who was telling eveyone to checkout a cool site
Here's the scam:
Once someone has tricked somebody into checking out the URL peaple see pictures that says your watching gay porn then the screen locks as you are flooded in a spam attack. Hundreds of windows pop up as you try to hurry and press CTR ALT DEL and entask the main page.
I went to the URL to checkout the code and instantly had 40 windows appeared on my screen.
Clearly the guy who made the site is trying to nuke someone with annoying windows that pop up outta nowhere :p
Any ideas on what could be done about it?
I didn't have time to catch and see what it's host was.
Any ideas on who I can tell & what I should do about stuff like this?
And what if the site's author IS the host. lol.

Just a suggestion: This act that guy made may have violated some laws one way or the other.
spam is still a spam no matter what form it may be. Try contacting law enforcement agencies about it. You ca help save others from crashing their systems and out an end to this spamming spree. FBI has a handfull of agents wiilling to help about it... or u can make a copy of the URL and tell mankind not to enter that site and its affiliates. All it takes is will.
Of course, thats just my opinion and its a suggestion. Its up to you
regards and the best of luck!!!!!

I use a pop up blocker/stopper available at www.panicware.com when I surf pages I don't know. When you are on familiar turf, you can disable it. If you are not on familiar turf... holding the control key and clicking on a link will overide the blocker..
By the way... this blocker is freeware and I think you can also get it at www.download.com
Already checked... no spyware :)

Yes i use panicware to it works very well. But you could complain to there isp that they are doing this i dont think its against the law but im sure if the isp saw that they were hosting something like that would take some action. If you cant look at the page long enough to see whos hosting it look at the url say there were hosting it on geocities.com it would be www.geocities.com/thereid/pagename.html. If that dosent work try runing a whois on the domain you could see there isp from that. I hope this helps!

Actually turn off active scripting in the browser will do it Opera works best, looks like nothing more or less then a mouse trap and allow scripts and it will happen. Another point he may make money or think he can over serving up so many pages using scripts a very old scam because most that pay for ads have known about this trick about 5 years plus. Try doing a search here on this subject, like I said at least 5 maybe 7 year old trick. Since you asked best advice is DO A AO Site search on your subject matter:)

i would suggest a software at www.earthlink.net, it is a pop up blocker. You have to be a member for you to be able to download it. I will give you my account info, so you can use it to get the software. They will ask you to login in before you get it. Type this in the username column [email protected] and in the password area type in "malgil". I am really trying to help you, so i trust that you will only use my account for this purpose only. I pray that no other member tries to do harm to me from this account, because i am only trying to help. Go get the program, install it and that should really solvve your problems.

its called "atomic-popup" and it's not against the law. palemoons right...i can't believe you actually have scripting on. i use ie6 on this machine with scripting set to prompt, its not as much of a hastle as it seem, it gets to be second nature hitting deny or allow. i never get hit with pop-ups.
if you want to see the site to find out about it use samspades feature "crawl a web site" you can then grab the file you want and edit them at your leasure.

Most of the premium AV/Firewall progs now have the popup blockers as well as ad blockers although some sites don't resolve if the ad doesn't show, so the prog also has a click-out for the places you know. Symantec2003 does anyway. Also bitches continually if you don't update the signatures files and program updates every day, which is good too... :)

ebo, you have done one of securities biggest sins you just gave out your account info. Not only is this totally lame but it points out to how easy falling prey to a scam can be done out here. I would suggest you change your account info, stop giving away what others pay good money (including you) for and quit attempting to be helpful, you are setting a very bad example, and prey cause more people read then post here and not everyone that does has ethics!? Geez I do not believe you!
-
Well I did whois on the site. I got alot of info but I don't think it'll do much considering that the hosting services are just sitting by while pages like this are being made.
As for the lame browser security..... Hey its not my comp. my mom and dad got this peice of crap and they blame me when things go wrong because they.... like the millions of other cattle, think that all programing languages are typed in hex or binary code and can kill a whole HD if it has even the smallest of errors.
P.S. Yes... I should have better searched this, yet the peaple that complain that AO is nothing more than a usenet group and it should be full of questions and answers that involve computers/security are the same peaple that are negging "lower" "class" AP scum like me. If nobody asked questions then there would only be a need for tut.s here. As for the poll... funny I thought that it was for counting everyones' thoughts, ideas, & opinions. Im sorry if the poll had offended any communist here at AO.
I know who sent it to me and I won't neg back because im better than that pluse its a waste of energy to reach my mouse over and give them out ::smoker::
Thanks for all the help even though there is nothing I can really do now besides complain and be ignored by web hostings "and other peaple".

I agree with Palemoon ebo, that was a v. stupid thing to do, giving out your account information.
I know you're just trying to help out, which is good, but what kind of practice is giving out account info, even if you are on a security site?
Alright, most of the members here have ethics but have you had a look at the amount of guests that browse this site on a daily basis?!?
Oh well you will learn, even if it is the hard way!
Regards

ps Sorry for the off topic post but had to get this in

Ebo, I do have to say that what you did is a security sin. Actually giving your information out is worse than it being stolen from you. It was a dumb move, and next time you shouldn't do something like that. Like I said, it is a security risk and isn't setting a gook example. Anyways, as for the website, everyone should have some form of a pop-up killer. The best thing to do is to try to just go to site's you trust, and to download a good pop-up killer. Hope I helped and that everyone learns a lesson from this. :)

to ebo, ok, first yea giving your account was questionable, but instead of calling you stupid, im gunna say its nice that people on earth still have faith in others, giving him your account to help him was really cool of you *pat on the back*

I made a big mistake on this post. I did what I did for two reasons, I first knew that somebody was going to use it,and keep it. I just wanted to help this guy out. I was hoping that he would read this post before anybody else. I knew that giving out my account was the dumbest thing to do, there is a reason that i gave it to him. It was a free trial account, that was going to expire in 3 days, I figured why don't i just give it to him, and it will hel;p him and get something done for him before somebody takes it from this post. To who ever that changed my password i hope you are enjoying it.. Becuase my deadline is due, the account was terminated until i wish to join them for good. That was the main reason i didn't delete this post. I thank those of you that tried to make sure that i do not screw my self in the a**. I really appreciate you guys noticing that i have made a big mistake , and trying to notify me really quick about it. Thanks everybody, who ever it was that stole or kept my account, i hope that you are enjoying the deadline;).
