Why Is Africa Hated By The World?

Hey everyone, I just wanted to hear what people on antiionline thought of Africa and its people. Everywheer that i have been to so far in this world Africa is a hated continent. I know two reasons this why this is going on. My first reason, I think that people belive that because Africa has a great deal of Jungles, everybody is starting to get the idea that the whole Africa is like that. I am Nigerian, a pure born Nigerian and I am proud of who i am and where i come from. So i really take a lot of offense into people saying that Africa is full of the people from the stone ages, we are so dumb that we can be catogorized as cave people. Now this is the part when i start to burn inside, half of the people that make this kind of remarks everywhere i go are "Black" people. Now i have a question for them, If the slaves were not taking from Africa, do you think that you will be in America having life easy for you from the moment you were born? It kills me to know that black people, which their ancestries was from Africa have not one interest in exploring Africa, maybe the ones that feel like they must know where they come try. The part that makes thkis ashame to most black folks is that white people have more interest in going to where their ancesters bought your ancesters from and exploring it. I really think that it is time that many American people start to go to Africa and see it before they start talking. Now Africa plays a big role on the world today, we have oil, coffe, diamonds, gold, ingredients to many medicines, and many other important things in the world. I believe that this is the reason why many terrisoms exist today. Many people in the other countries taht don't have much see Americans saying all this things about them, it pisses them off. They start to think, why should you have a life like that and i am living in hell? Then jealousy starts to come in, and then anger a lot of anger. I think that we should start to think about those that do try to make it naturally ( Without technology and all the stuff that makes your life simple.) because those people back home in my country are my true heros. I have one more thing to say, which is my second reason on why the world thinks Africa is nothing but jungles and people who fight with sticks and stones. The MEDIA IS THEESE PEOPLE'S BIGGEST RESOURCE. The media goes to Africa and they broadcast episodes of following those parts of Africa that can not afford to buy clothes and cover themselves. When you go over there and return that kind of feedback to people over here, what do you expect them to think? I really think that the media needs to start sending back feedbacks of the good part of Africa and broadcast the people taht are having big successes as the people in this country are. We have to feed more positive messages of Africa to kids that are now growing up, so they can have a whole different image of The great mother continent known as, AFRICA.



I had to post this because i couldn't keep it inside no more. I wanted to talk about this to people that i know will listen to me and think about what i am saying. These people are the AO members. Everybody tries to give an ear and try to help me out, and i want everybody to know that i really appreciate it. I felt like if i keep this inside any longer, i will end up hurting somebody that speaks of Africa in a rude and inconsiderate way. I thank everybody for listening and i hope that everybody has a good image of Africa in their head.

It is not hate it is a lack of understanding and like it or not media will play a role in this. Do I or other buy what the media says nope well may more but just as many do not believe all people of the Africa as reprted in the media are the actual people. Like any place on the earth media palys upon the horror the scoop the story, the people with big guns, big mouths, and to often payoffs and courruption. World is not now of wise men but men of profit, war is an easy task peace and letting children grow all to often over looked. Then again I'm a huge target as an American even in my second country my wife's home, the land of my childrens Aunts and Uncles..yep we go often. If I must pay with my life for my family I will. Hate is also a media game the next breaking story their profit off the grief. Only here can one state whom they are and the choive is either a net personality or one person connecting to another was what the entire place was designed for :)

Ebo,I can fully simpathise with you.The message that gets send out to the world by the media in our country is usually targeted on things that go wrong or bad.The big reason I think for them is to promote which ever paper they work for, or circulation which in turn relates once again to that evil thing called"money"The big problem is they do not care who ,what or where as long as they can get the story out and to me it seems the uglier the detail of the story, the better.

Just look at all the things currently happening.Just recently tourists to this country got murdered, raped and God knows what else.This kind of exposure does not send a good message to the outside world.Once again the media thrives on that.Instead why don't they look at what is really wrong.?????You know what I mean.So in a way I can understand how tourists want to think twice before coming to our country.Who's fault is this??The death penalty is gone,our prisons are bursting out and zip gets done about it.Tourists bring foreign currency to our country which is what we want.And we would like them to send a positive message across.Look it does not happen to everybody visiting this country and Ithink goverment is trying to get all the cooruption etc... out but I think more strict measures should be put in place.

On a more personal note I think These people must come and spend a few months in our shoes before they start going off about how bad this country is .Like you said there are more positive things than negative, and we have a lot to offer the world provided that the right measures are put in place.I admire your courage to bring this up,and I hope and urge ourAO members to respect your opinion because you are entitled to that thing called freedom of speech.

Looks like you kinda answered your own question there. There are parts of Africa that are in terrible shape, droughts, starvation genocide etc. The media that is brought back is meant to rally support for these people and that’s a good thing. If you’re in a good neighborhood, not much happens. Nobody hears about you.

I’ve never met anyone who's spoken badly of Africa or Africans. The only African i’ve ever known was a lab partner in school. Guilome (i know i butchered the name) from gold coast. He was a good guy and helped me to overcome Boolean algebra, but his French accent made it kinda tough.

I think the best thing YOU could do, is just to present yourself as the honest, straight forward, intelligent person that you are. You are probably the first African many here have/will met/meet. The impression you make can help shape the future.

I dunno..... It seems to me that blacks, whites, and orientals are the most hated groups of peaple in america and in other countries because many peaple see us as ignorant fools who do nothing but worry about money. However I beleave that forceing peaple to be so politically correct to the point where you can't even laugh & forget about some of the crap going on is unhealthy

I remember watching looney toons when I was a kid but with all the complaining on the news and stuff you begin to notice how some of the character somehow represent something....

Elmer Fudd kinda represents how whites are often looked at as ignorant, rich, and drunken rednecks who do nothing but fish & hunt.

And then there is Bugs Bunny. I beleave he represents the blacks because he doesn't hardly do anything but act goofy and say whatsup.

I beleave everyone would eventually forget about what they hear about others if they put things back into the past, move on, and laugh rather than worry about whats a "race" "thing" then there would be less complaints and more fun in the world.

Sometimes I hangout with large groups of peaple they sometimes forget im white. It seems to me that the peaple who constantly complain about what others are doing are usually the peaple that are prejuduce agianst peaple from other races & countries and things.

i live in india, and atleast here, africans are respected because if Nelson Mandela, the great man that he was. Otherwise, the general impression is not that of rudeness or something, but backwardness , like india's impression around a few decades ago was a backward country simply because the west didnt know what was inside. Now that it's in the limelight, it's understood that it can be a superpower in the next 5 years. Similarly, as you have pointed out, the media will deifinitely have to play a role to bring in light the cultural richness of Africa.

Yeah the media has done alot of good in the past, like learning channels like discovery only seem to go to areas where there is nothing but trees or there are alot of strange laws and customs though. They have done so many storyies on tribes & religus groups that peaple think that all forieners as poor, strange, & stupid peaple but thats not what its like at all :(

Sure nobody wants to look at peaple walking around in large cities all day but the media sometimes over does things. Thats like when peaple look at U.S. and these McDonald comercials hundreds of times and then peaple in other countries think that americans can't cook.

I have many friends as all of you do some of which are bigoted and some are reasonable thinking people. I do not beleive evervone hates africa, china, etc. You will find racists in every country even your own. I have a best friend(colored lady) with whom I worked closely for 5 years. A few people where we worked (black as well as white) looked askance at both of us.because we sat together at lunch and hung around together. We heard remarks from both sides. That did not stop us. Perhaps we taught others something about friendship.To me the mark of a truly civilized person is the ability to see the other person's viewpoint. We all know that the media blows things up.The only practical course of action to be taken is to pinch yourself when you yourself fall into a bad pattern of thinking and talking.If each person (black , white, oriental) tries to talk calmly and rationally about his beliefs, and country without ranting and raving, much could be accomplished. Palemoon voiced my opinion. I doubt everyone hates Africa/Africans, but it is a lack of understanding and a lack of seeing what truly goes on in Africa. The media, sadly, will always do things like this for money, attention, god knows. It is sdad, but that's the media. I'm planning to someday go to Africa and see how it is, because I don't believe the media. I'm also proud of the fact that you voiced your opinion because IMHO one person can make a difference. You should take your opinion to the public if need be and if you really want to voice it out. Again, I agree with you completely. I just wish that the media helped out by showing the real Africa and it's beauty and it's strengths, not it's weaknesses and sad parts.

I don't hate Africans ... I love them. I think they're one of the most beautifull people of the world... Thern I'm refering to those very black people with very white teeth, it just looks cool. And they never did me any harm, so I love them.

Most people do not hate Africa or its population.

However, you have to remember that Africa has some of the most brutal & corrupt regimes in the world. My personal experience was as a tourist visiting Zimbabwe in 2001.
I found the people very friendly, and had discussions with lots of different people - members of the ruling ZanuPF party, white & black farmers, black workers, and genuine subsistence farmers. At that time there was some unease about president Magabe, but everyone thought things would work out OK.

What has happened since then?

The last election was rigged - violence, ballot stuffing & intimidation were common place, so that Magabe got re-elected.

He then proceeded with his racist campaign to evict white farmers (not black ones) from their land, using rape & violence by ZanuPF youths to make sure the farms were destroyed (with the assistance of the police).

As a direct result the country is now suffering from a famine, with half the population not having enough to eat. The only way to get food is to show that you are a ZanuPF party member (as in communist Russia, where you had to be a card carrying member to get anywhere).

To claim this is a result of England’s colonial past is ridiculous. The UK has agreed to pay several million £ to Zimbabwe if the land is re-distributed in a legal and sensible fashion.

Biased reporting?

No - but only the US seems to want to step up sanctions on such an obnoxious regime. The EU refuses to do anything, as does Nelson Mandella - he seems to assume that because it is an African state, Magabe must be in the right.
