I signed up here a few days ago.I had to read this big thing about how to post, antipoints and yadayadayada. Now I am getting negative antipoints because of nothing. I didn't even get a chance to say anything. I had so many questions and things to discuss but I guess I'm not welcome here.
Nice way to treat new people.

I TOTALLY AGREE with you, 100%. There are some persons that seem to enjoy negging people for nothing. I could list you many, many threads and posts that were negged for really good comments, or just common comments that don't deserve neggs. Besides, there are really "stupid" answers that have a lot of positive APs. Someone should be controlling neggings. Besides again, there are people that, when you post something always is trying to look for a negative side in your answer, then other members see this thread and start negging you because of the one that say that you don't have reason, and bla, bla, bla...
I know many of you think the same (newbies more) but are afraid of saying this because talking about AntiPoints is like forbidden here... yes... really weird. Again one more, just look for really stupi threads, posts and answers that has a lot of positive Antipoints...

Thats not going to help you. People are just going to neg you more for complaining.
If you are posting and people are negging you, there is a reason. If you are a victum of the antipoint system, then just lay low for a while. Think before you post. Post something worth while or don't post anything at all.
A lot of newbies just come in here and get some neg. points, complain about it and the next thing they know, they are banned.
Mostly everyone is welcome at AO. Everyone recieved positive and negative points.
The system is there to weed out the trouble makers.
Read and follow the FAQs and you shouldn't have any problems.

Sorry but i can't agree with you. What you are saying was right at first, but now many people is negging for nothing. I know there is a lot of experienced people as members of AO but, how can you prove that there aren't people negging for nothing?

I am just voicing my opinion. I see a lot of newbies post thoughtless posts and get negged.
I also get a fair amount of negs. Personally I don't care. I have more important things to worry about than red and green dots.
Nothing against you or anyone else... that was my opinion, take it or leave it. ;)

This is not the first time im coming to this site.
I came the first time, posted stupid, got negged and banned.
I learnt from my mistakes, came again, thought, spent time, and posted, still not very positive, but reasonably okay.
You can also do the same, come back as many times.
DArk-Raider, you can't really complain. If you look back, you posted like 3 MERRY XMAS posts. The first post you said merry christmas, we appreciated it, well i appreciated it. There was no reason to post that 3 times. You say that people look for bad things in a thread to neg, thats not true, if you get neg'd you did something wrong. If everything you posted was what everybody thought was helpful, you would have way more dots that you have, with the amount of post you have ;). My point is that sometimes, we see a thread that we want to post on, but the idea doesn't come out as we wanted, and expected to. For that reason, we get somethng that we do want. It's sort of annoying to get neg points for posting your opinion on something...grr...I really don't mind as long as I dont' get banned. I just don't like having AO open up to a smily face flipping me off.
well i've been here for a quiet long time now, i've noticed that u get neg for two reasons:
1- posting bull ****.
and that doesn't mean, " i don't like ur openion" it means u post something wrong.
2- someone doesn't like u or doesn't like the thread starter :
the bad thing is, u'll find lots of those AS$H0l3s.
but the good part is, JP and the senior members are trying their best to control this part.
AP is something important, it's not just a green points on ur shoulder, as we all know APs shows lots of things:
your knowledge which is the most imp. part, respect for ur self and other AOers & it shows how much u r welcomed in the site.
i've been neged allot, but i just quit posting for a while, i knew there was someone just don't like me, but i didn't stop coming here,
coz' i'm here for knowledge not fun, it's good from JP to start some forums like cosmos and general chit chat .. and other socializing forums, it generates a stronger relation between members.
conclusion: if u are here to learn , then do so, and forget about the lamers, things will just pass :)

I have noticed that the second post in a thread counts. If you post somthing really good, and someone with a lot of green dots complains about the post, the post usually goes down hill from there. On the other hand, if you post junk, and some big wig complements it, you'll get points. Kinda cruel. I like the site before the antipoints. There were jerks, but there still are. You neg a guy out, and he will just come back. If we are going to have antipoint, they should give the new guys at least three greens to start. If people followed the following rules about neging someone, antipoints would be fine. Anybody around here should know that you should not give negs unless:
The person starts whining.
note: whining and complaining are two different things.
The person posts multiple threads on the same thing.
The person makes personal attacks.
The person asks questions not related to the site.
i.e. "I want to learn how to hack my school computer."
The person posts a thread in the wrong catagory.
"This can vary slightly with opinion, so be careful."
The person uses exceptionally filthy language.
The person brags about doing illegal things.
The person uses a miss-leading thread name.
i.e. thread name: "School system vuneralabilitys" thread post: "How can I hack the system."
There are a few others that I missed.
You should NOT give negs when:
Someone disagrees with you.
When you don't like the posting person.
When you don't like the thread starter.
When someone nicely repremands you for a mistake.
There are others, but try not to start neg wars.

Now I don't want to add more fuel to this fire dealing with ap's or anything, but why not just make a few changes to the ap system, and make it so a user can view who gave him neg points?
Under lost, that would be adding a whole lot of fuel to the fire. If you they were to do this, there would be no point os this site. If you knew somebody gave you a negative ap, and you didn't really know why, the first thing you would want to do is retaliate. In that case AO won't be a place of shring and exchanging knowledge, it would be a place of negging and exchanging negative ap's. Get what i mean?;)

this whole antipoint system is one big honesty box. nobody controls what goes in and its totally up to the person who puts in, what they put in and why.

No, it doesn't suck. It's just the "system" and it works. It weeds out all the garbage. If the antipoint system was not in place this site would not be as informative and helpful as it is.Quote:

Thats true mathgirl, if we didn't have the ap system, then somebody can easily come here, and ask how to hack hotmail or into their school system, and somebody would easily tell them. Without the ap system, this wouldn't be a security site, it would be like any other script-kiddies site. Without the ap system, some people who know how to hack hotmail or their school wouldn't think twice about giving information on how to do so. The ap system is good and it will keep this site going strong and safe. -Ebo
I have to disagree with you ebo before the ap system came about no one here would have thought about giving out hacking info because we had the flaming system and there were a few who could flame so well that you needed a firehose just to read the thread. I can not say I agree with the anti point system but it is here to stay and so all we can do is be nice to one another.
umm..lostit, maybe we can consider that option given by a member earlier in this thread where he stated that a new member start with a minimum number of greenies.
Everybody has a different opinion, and AP's have been discussed so many times, that this thread will ultimately have to go suicidal. So, i see no point talking about it when there is no change that could be brought about. Peace.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to start up a fight guys!!! I was just pointing out how I didn't apreciate being almost baned when I did absolutely nothing. You're right! It's not going to kill me. But I'm still gonna ask why. The funny thing that I notice is that some of the negative antipoints I got have comments only from a few people who don't like me or don't want to let new people in. Too bad because I'm here to stay!!
yea i cant say this site is too nice to new users either. I've seen some real examples of idiocy for no reason. But dont let it spoil your opinion about the whole site, I still enjoy it.

I have been here for some months now and still remember getting negged (reached -200 two times) after my twenty first posts but I never complained about it, instead I started writing
tutorials and avoided making nonsense posts and it worked.
Those of you who complain about the antipoints system and getting negged are the ones who try to answer any post that comes to sight no matter what.
I have seen some people who try to post as much as they can but what is the use of making many posts while the quality of your posts is so low?
While there are people who misuse the antipoint system there are those who don’t, the glass is not half empty it is half full.
People who negged me showed me the way if it was not because of these neggs I had never gained those little greenz.
