my question to you what games do you remeber from your youth and why?

Hi Rioter,
The games you quoted are very much the same games I've played back then.
I still can remember the evenings where me and my buddy played Mortal Kombat on an 486 , with splitscreen.
Also Doom was a great game to play, between 2 pc's with a nul-modem cable, great time we've had there.
Indeed the games now aren't what they 've used to be, that's one of the reasons I don't play a lot anymore.

Hi,
Wow!!! I could remember so many that i can barely name them:
From Spectrum: Ghosts n' Goblins, Ghouls n' Ghosts, Sir Fred, School Daze, Back to Skool, Starqueake, Lords of Chaos, Myth, ATV Simulator, Trapdoor, Gremlins, etc., etc., etc....
...and from PC: yes... DOOM (of course) and the unforgettables old graphic adventures... yeah!!! :D
And, you are right, old games were harder than today ones... but i prefer it that way. Today games are really easy, too easy!!! You always beat them and without tricks, maybe some walkthroughs sometimes but NEVER tricks the first time i beat them.
Bye.

The game I remember best was the old Super Mario Bros. from my old NES clone. Then there was contra which kicked major ass. On the PC, I remember the Commander Keen games (anyone got a copy of those lying around?) and Wolf3D very fondly. Roadrash is still one of my very favourite games. Then came the SNES and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Top Gear. Wow... all those old memories.
Cheers,

On my Commodore: Double Dragon, Outrun, Karate something, Frogger, and some thousand others...
The first games I've played on PC were Commander Keen and Outrun again, I think...

Well mine are a LOT more recent but....
Ninja Turtles, Mortal Combat, Super Mario Bros, Sonic, and a few others that I can't remember. Then towards 5th grade I started to play Star Craft, Half-Life, and a few others. I did/do remember playing emulators of old atari and arcade games, now those are FUN.
-
i don't know 'bout you but if i close my eyes i can literally fly through most of the levels in doom, quake, duke nukem and other games... i remember the exact layout, the monsters, and secrets...
it's funny what human mind will remember. i remember all that but i will forget a persons name in 5 minutes

California Games was the best
I also liked to play
Outrun
Frogger
Into the Eagle's nest
Boulder Dash
Prince of Persia
Wolfenstein
Off course Pacman
I loved doubling Bubble and Bobble
Also the old mario brothers games.
Sim city.
Civilisation
Nowadays I rarely play games on my computer.
Some PSX(2) though

I seem to remember Excite Bike, that was one of my favorites along with Contra on Nintendo
In the realm of PC games I remember the old sierra Quest for Glory series. That was the best, back on my Tandy 386. :)
-
hrm.. pong, mario brothers, tetris, excite bike, punch out, teenage mutant ninja turtles, jeopardy, wheel of fortune, zelda!
-
I am afraid I had an old Amstrad CPC464 (with colour monitor and built in tape drive :) )
My favorite game on that had to be Spy Vs. Spy, nobody has mentioned that one yet, either it was a really bad game and I am sad, or people have overlooked it :)
Apart from that I have to agree with several other NES, Super Mario, it was just out of this world at that time.
-
mine would be Contra.. me and my cousin always played that game on nintendo.. i still remember the cheats for 30 lives.. hehehe and what else.. Chip n' Dale.. and Ninja Turtles. those all are nintendo. and i also played GODS on a 386 i think..
-
Dungeons & dragons : Knights of Krynn.... on the old 486...
Floor 13
Leisure Suit Larry 1
*sigh*
-
Atari all the way baby!
Asteroids, Defender, Yars Revenge, Space Invaders, Bowling, Boxing, Basketball and so many more... I loved them all.. and then of course the NES, but i mean the ATARI was the sh*t, it was and still is the greatest system around. I went into a video game store the other day and asked for either an Atari or an NES and the guy started laughing.. He has a waiting list of over 100 names of people looking for those systems... They were the greatest. no doubt.
-
i remember playing pitfall on the atari .. i never had an atari so every time i played that game i got so excited heh ...... also playing super mario bros. on the NES (nintendo entertainment system).. my favourite game so far was Mario 64 .. however i really wanna try the lord of the rings game that just came out a little while ago
i love zelda: ocarina of time for the nintendo 64 also and an arcade game called raven ( i think that is its name )
-
being old and computer illiterate to a year or so ago my first game was asteroids-at the arcade- i still download a version once in awhile
-
We never had a video game system at home so I had to go to a friends house and play Yar's Revenge....awesome. Other than that, we'd just go outside and throw lawn darts up in the air and then avoid them on their way down!
-
i also remeber a pc game called stunt and jones life in the fast lane
my oh my those games were fun games these days have seem to lost replaybilty in favor of graphics and technical ****

Oldies
If we are talking about the old one's the first game I ever played was on an 8086 system, it was a "graphical" Star Trek game. The Quadrant was laid out and you could go to any sector, You were an E, Klingons a K, stars an asterisk and Bases a B. To move 1 sector you would put in 1 (N,S,E,W) or you could move part of a sector by using decimals. Then you could shoot by figuring angles to the target.
My favorite old time games, well Zelda was definitely one of them. My favorite games though were on the old Intellivision system. There was Dreadnaught, D and D, and Island Wars. Then came out the most addictive game I have ever played (until I started into MMORPG's) on the NES- Nobunaga's Ambition. It had everything, village management, army building, tactics, and a difficult but eventually attainable goal. The first time I beat the game I had been playing it for almost 30 hours straight. I could barely focus on the T.V.
However I do still play games and think there are many good ones out there. I love Deus Ex, it is not as difficult as some of the old ones but it is great fun. Also Myst and Riven were graphical grand children of the early text adventures and I think did them proud. Aside from a few standouts most FPS's have added little to Doom but eye candy. I like eye candy but the basic game play is still much the same and the game is based on dynamics not plot. Maybe that is why I like Deus Ex, it's plot was intriguing to me and you can sneak many missions (I don't but you could if you wanted to). The only FPS's that have extended the genre seem to do so through on-line play. Here I point to Half-Life with its many mods. Happily it demonstates that most innovation comes from talented amateurs (Counter Strike and dozens more) which are then immulated by professionals.
BTW I use the same nick on-line playing CS and Anarchy Online (for my main) as I do here. So if you ever find yourself shooting me there make sure to say hi.

I was a huge fan of lucasarts' graphic adventure games: Monkey Island 1 and 2, Indy and the fate of atlantis, sam and max, etc. There aren't many games now that i like as much as those...
I was also a huge fan of zelda, contra, mario bros for NES.
-
Excite bike, 720, super mario 2, ninja turtles. God those were good games.
In middle school all we cared about was street fighter. Then mortal combat came along. I didn't like it as much though.
I remember when I was around 10 or 11 all I cared about was getting a power glove. begged and begged and finally got it for christmas. IT SUCKED. didn't work for crap. ended up just wearing it and using the regular control pad it had.
