You can think of AO as one collective mentor.
Just read through the threads and use the search feature on the main page. There is tons of info. You will no doubtly learn more that way than from a single mentor.
If there isn't something that you don't understand, search for it... still nothing, use google... still nothing post your question.

Dude, nobody has the time, effort, or dedication to just handover to you. Go finish school, take some computer science classes. Thats enough you'll need to start. Hang around in IRC channels that actually talk about computing and other related subjects. Learn how to look up information on your own. Learn how to use a search engine... Yeah...
Nobody wants to teach you, and no, we won't do it for any amount of money, we don't care. Never ask this again...

like WC said its always good to just hang around computer irc servers. For another, just get familiar with your box. If you can, set one up that you can just fool around with. Send it virus's, crack it, etc then learn how to fix it. True hacking is really repairing, or making better, not worse. also, check out a UNIX operating system, UNIX is alot more developed for programming and networking etc.
My idea of 'hacking' is about programing and learning. But since you said "hacking & programing" as if they are purely opposite things..... then I can only assume that you are here to learn unethical stuff.
P.S. I don't think webcarnage was harsh at all and I really didn't like it when you asked about "haxoring" and then you told him to 'shut it'....

There are better ways to title a thread...the moment I saw it, I was ready to Neg you, Genocide, for posting something asking to learn how to hack. If your goals are pure, you will learn by exploring and listening.
There are three main keys to learning, in all things. This is no different.
1. Explore.
2. Listen.
3. Read.
Those three things will help you learn how to deal better with almost everything in life.

Well as said above, start reading.
This was the same i had to hear when i asked the same question once. And it's true ! it works. READ!
But, it would be wise to put up a linux/unix box (at home or at any place, co-located would be nice) and keep it perfectly up to date.
Start with just building a webserver and put mysql on it. Make sure MySQl ain't available for the outside world!
It would be wise to get a linux/unix that AIN'T the latest version!! install it as mentioned above. Thereafter put it in a closet where only 2 things go in Power and Network.
Now you may not touch the box anymore and try to get it up-to-date.
This will require lot's of reading, but now you are reading with a goal. And believe me you'll learn atleast twice as fast.
There's another advantage in this method, you'll also learn how a linux/unix machine works. And that's very important in security world (my opinion).

If you want to learn, try while you read, you'll see if you're wrong , and as a result the knowledge will stay far more longer and deeper.

Can anyone help me with this scenerio. We are some 40-50 persons on a LAN. I am using winXP while others r using different OS. I need to hack one win98 machine I know the ip adress of that machine, the user login name and the password how can I log into that machine and c what my girl friend is doing and whom she is chatting chatting with. another "teach me to hack" post. You'd think, with all of this information in one place (the internet) it would be easy to learn how to hack. You'd think by now somone would've written a tutorial, neigh MANY tutorials on computer security. Man! wouldn't it be great if people had a place to go, and chat and read, and learn about computer security in a fun, informative little community... OH, WAIT, WE TOTALLY DO!! people have gotten lazy. Noone wants to sit down and do some damn work anymore. Noone wants to code for 16 hours just to satisfy their curiosity. <SARCASM>I remember when hackers stayed up all night, trying commands on a new system, looking for holes he could exploit to gain illegal access, now children can use canned programs to break the law... what has happened to our MORALS, MAN? </SARCASM>I remember sitting at my father's pentium 75mhz, with a 14.4kbps connection to AOL, and a windoze 95 command prompt, port scanning password authentication servers for holes. Now I sit at a 1.1ghz Duron, listening to people who can't even build a computer asking me how to break into one. FIRST THING'S FIRST, *******... I say, if you want to learn to break security, do what I did. TEACH YOURSELF, because noone else who is willing to teach you how to gain illegal entrance to a computer system is trustworthy. And if you need the assurance of 0Oh G33z, GANGZTA HAX0rz on IRC, you should REALLY ASK YOURSELF WHY!!! Why whould you want the respect and admiration of guys who have nothing better to do BS and intentionally misspell their own name on IRC? I did an experiment once.. Last year I stumbled onto an IRC server with 1337 Hax0rz scrolling and tagging the server with nonsense. I did a whois on the three most vocal users. all three had serious security holes in their system i could've exploited to gain access and wreak havok on their terminals.. one of them was even infected with the Netbus PATCH trojan, meaning, anyone with a copy of netbus had COMPLETE CONTROL over his computer. Once I told them this, one of them threatened to TOS me, (assuming I was an AOL member like himself) another begged me not to HAX0R him, and the third asked me how to fix the problem... I sent him here... :-)
