try happyhacker.org, they have some nice tutorials and links to war game sites
Are there any more site that will take me through the whole thing.
whole thing of what?
no one is gonna tell u exactly how to hack because they dont want jes any schmuck runnin around screwin with pples computers the most you can hope for is basic principles if you are really interested read the RFC's and try to learn yourself.
im reading the RFC's i just can't find the time To sit on the computer for that long my eyes start to hurt.
well you certainly have to dedicate time in learning before you can do something
Another wargame is at telnet://drill.hackerslab.org I think you need to signup to play that one so you'll get info on your missions and stuff like that. Then of course www.happyhacker.org has some easy stuff. But as for text-files & tutorials.... the sad truth is they don't help. I often laugh at how vague and un-informative some of them are & they usually only cover one page of what a whole book on networking would cover.
Thank you everyone for all your help i will be checking them out soon.
You're going to have to read. You're going to have to read a lot. As somebody once said on AO, you're going to have to read till your eyes bleed. If you are not going to take the time to sit at a computer to teach yourself, what makes you think you are going to take the time and actually "hack" once you've learned what you doing?Quote:

It would be nice to be handed all the tools you will need in a hacker world. But the truth is, its not going to happen. Its pretty much every man for himself, and only the smartest survive. Thats why nobody is handing out information on a golden platter.
|The|Specialist provided a link to about the best wargame that is about the now Pull the Plug was good to but they took there public game down. So what you have to do is telnet to the drill.hackersab.org server and log in as level0 and the password is guest register at www.hackerslab.org for the hint for the level when and if you pass the level provide the password and it will give you a hint for the next level. I have been playing this wargame for about 2 years now and i have nearly finished it i have only got to do 2 more levels and i have learned a lot from playing it some of the exploits are old on it but a lot of it can be used in an IRL situation (not the exploits but the theary behind them). If you get stuck PM me and i will try my best to give you hints without giving you a full explanation. Also you should read up on basic Unix commands and start to do some bash scripting and learn a programming language like C or C++ well you know what to do if you need to find something out www.google.com have fun with it ;)
kudos to stranded kr KidAdmin i think that is the best way to learn as my prob is similar to banananuts ni that it's hard to take the time and also that there are places to go
Those are all great thanks for the help everyone.
Try the Zebulun Challenges @ cyberarmy.com
The Zebulun challenge has been taken down, but we're working on another wargame to put up. It'll be quite a bit better. The OSI offers their GEEK Challenge, if you want to take a look at that, it's GEEK Challenge. If you want to learn some other basic skills, you can sign up for Arcanum here. I've got a list of quite a few more if you wanna PM me for them, too many to post. :)
check out the slyfx challenges, they start with real easy stuff and get more difficult as you go, covers many different topics in computing, not just 'hacking' but a variety of things that are all important in the computing field
www.slyfx.com
ya I have to agree with kidadmin, you are going to have to read and try for yourself noone is going to give u keystroke by keystroke commands, u just have to try stuff and try stuff and try stuff untill sumthing works
I personally agree with all of you, there is no one person out there who is going to accuilly help you lern how to thay may give you links but nothing more than that, who would risk people finding out about "them" being a "hacker"
you have to read and try new things and make mistakes many a time b4 youl lern anything.
Maybe you're talking about script kiddies?
The act of downloading "hacker programs" and launching attacts on a computer, a network, etc is frowned upon, and its set a bad name out for all script kiddies. Actually, alot of attacks are initiated by script kiddies. Its when you get into the more skilled attacks that the subsequent knowledge is needed.
The real skill.
