how can i stop someone from hacking into my hotmail?
the most simple thing is to change your password or to make a new account at hotmail !
p.s delete all mails from unknown senders!
There is no Linux errors , just user errors!

We could use some more info. Is your Hotmail presently being broken into. If so, when did the problem start etc..
That said there could be 2 possibilities. Either someone has gooten your password or you have a Trojan on the box. I would change the password and the get a good Trojan cleaner such as Tauscan from http://www.tauscan.com and run a scan. Remove any Trojans you find.
the only way you can fully stop people from getting into your hotmail is to
[a] do what ratman3 said
[b] call or email m$ and tell them not to suck so bad
[c] get rid of hotmail
or
[d] make a very difficult password so its not easily cracked.
or even
[e] just make your computer uberly secure, dont store cookies or any cache, download mozilla and a spyware remover, and have fun.
I would start by creating a password that had normal letters and numerics in it, just in case they are uisng a simliar Yahoo email crack program that I know of. After that, look to see what security measures one would have to to go through (or yourself) to recover a forgotten password. After analyzing it properly, create a random, and untrue zip code (if this needs to me taken), change personal things around, and if there is a question one must answer, be sure to create a question that not even a personal family member could answer, create one that only you can answer.
Change your hotmail password, report the incident to microsoft, maybe they can get an ip address for you and that would be a good start for you to track down the person that's been haunting your digital life.

yingyang,
If you are using school or public computer, and find that your hotmail is contantly broken into.Changing password will not help because the pc probably has a keylogger installed in it.My advice is not to use the same pc or system. If it is an internet cafe , move to another or ask the system administrator to check for keyloggers! If its your pc, check for keyloggers and trojans.
Good luck,

dr evil is absolutely right the most common way of cracking an email password is keylogger even kids can use it to hack into ur mailbox make sure you have norton installed(latest virsion)and look for antikeylogger on http://www.anti-keyloggers.com.
i hope it would help!!!
dont use hotmail... there are many free mail services that dont try and shuve **** down your throat like hotmail does. It is not a good choice, who knows what crazy hackerz have gained acccess to that mail server its a prime target and always has been. I have heard Microsoft has said many times they felt that they had not been comped in any way when in fact freakz had been inside there apple. We use hotmail as a secondary form of communication becuse we think its so safe and nobody can figure out who we are lol... weeee Im safe Im safe i used my hotmail account NOT they secure your mail not their weblogs. Your mail is safe your ident is not!Quote:
duh I have been informed I am posting answers to questions posted 6 months ago! Sorry guys I guess I got a little too high.
Well, they have pretty much said it all...
*Search for keyloggers,trojans,worms;
*Quit using hotmail;
*Create a strong password.
More info on strong password is available in http://www.antionline.com/showthread...trong+password
For any email accounts, you should change your password every week.
Anyone noticed the date of this thread?
PS: I think it's a bit to paranoic to change your password every week.
Heck, if you have a decent password I don't think it's necessary to ever change it if it's just your personal account but I think many people here won't agree with that.
LoL ..
Exactly . . this post is very old . .but i think many of the newbies maybe looking for the answer to the same question, so all should give advices according to thier experience and knowledge.
As far as im concerned, it feels strange to answer even after so many replies by senior members but i also want to share something with all of newbies who want solution to the same problem. well according to my knowledge email account can be hacked by only few reasons.
one of the most common among hotmail users is that someone who know you very well hacked your email account, and this happens only coz u filled out the correct information while filling the hotmail membership form. mind one thing, always fill it with fake answers like if your secret questions is 'your pet name' for gawd sake neva fill it with your correct pet name coz ur secret question is more important than your password. or the second way is sometimes ur friend or whoever mails hotmail support appearing as its you and u lost ur account by any reason, and trust me hotmail staff are so dumb that they give out the hotmail account password after asking some very stupid questions like name any 5 of ur msn contacts or any 5 of the email addresses from ur adress book or latest 3-4 emails or any other. So, solution to this is the same, provide fake contact information coz if any one of the information provided to staff by the so called hacker wuld come up to be wrong, the staff member wont refresh the account.
by the way, many of us are cursing hotmail for low security although we dont know if the person has a hotmail account or maybe a yahoo account :p lol .. . anyways .. no matter wat email account u use . . but most of the weaknesses are the same as discussed above by other senior members like keyloggers, trojans or weak passwords.
In the end i wuld say . . Nothing Is Safe, No Matter Wat You Do! :mad:
Best of Luck!
Well my suggestion is that instead of creating a 6-7 character password which contains letters and numbers only. I would suggest for any password no matter what it is for that you use a long "passphrase" similar to what you would use for PGP.That is what I do for all of my passwords that I have be it e-mail,programs,computer login ... A mixed 6-7 mix character password is simple to figure out for password crackers [ Since computers are way much faster today]. But a well picked lengthy "passphrase" would be much harder for someone to figure it out. And would also more time for a password cracker to figure it out.
