How much is Micro$oft involved in this crusade?
Check it out; SCO was purchased by Caldera (1). Caldera/SCO announces the UnitedLinux group (2 & 3) And, questions about UnitedLinux, a non-disclosure agreement and the GPL arise (4).

They own the patents, IBM has 0 chance at winning this.... this could start big changes in the linux community at large, be sure to keep an eye on this one.
It is not yet clear who will win the final outcome but, I'm a little fed up with SCO anyway as it always gave us problems. Go linux.
There may be prior art. Has SCO actually revealed what these claimed IP violations are yet?
Quote:
There has been some speculation about M$ involvement, but I doubt they are pulling any strings. But, I would image they are in the SCO cheering section.
Didn't microsoft own SCO at one time? I remember a letter a few years ago telling me it was time to upgrade my Linux to SCO Unix, it read just like a M$ ad.
For a bit of fun, jump on the queue to be sued at;

Here’s a nice follow up article, “What if SCO is right?” There are quotes from Bruce Perens. Perens noted that SCO due to legal incompetence might have already lost the case.

Seems SCO is litigation happy now it's Novell?
Just saw this on Zdnet:
"But copyrights may figure in with subsequent enforcement actions,
he said, so SCO is preparing to take Novell to court to settle those issues"
Lawyers are going to be very rich :)
Doc
I though novell owns the rights??
This whole thing is getting bad. Think of the dirty buisiness world. Bribings, unfair acts, etc....
M$ will do anything they can to get linux out of the way. Many large companies will buy themselves through to achieve their goals. Judges might follow the highest payer. I personally do think that M$ has thier fingers in SCO, and im sure that many other sources will popup now claiming this and that. Do you really believe that M$ will just sit and watch linux grow? Do you really believe that justice will be served? Wake up people, its the $$$$$ that rules.
BTW, a little offtopic here, Munich, the capital city of Bavaria has now chosen SuSE linux as their OS of choice, meaning that they will now switch their 14.000 computer systems to linux. Other german cities are now looking up to that and might follow. M$ tried to make a special offer to Munich, but they still went for linux. Apart from all that i think its not only because the linux solutions is cheaper or not, nor does it have todo with which OS is better. I think its all about privacy too. I think the germans, and many others are sick of using an OS that they do not control. I still believe that windows is one of the largest sources for the gov to get information ON EVERYTHING stored on the systems. They dont want to loose that power. Some of you will now think my thoughts are childish, or f**ked up. I dont care. This is not a rant against the M$ OS, its a rant against anti privacy. No matter how well you secure a winOS, there is always a door open for M$ (meaning the US gov too.) No offence intented here against US politics, i will take that part to the COSMOS section later on. But what i say is true, and i will not bother to try to proove my point to you, or anyone else. My sources are not links to websites or anything like that. Its what experience has shown me since i started with computers long before M$ times. I for one, do NOT accept the policy that M$ runs, and i never will.
Cheers.
ps. Please do have a look at http://www.arie.org/doh/
Thx.
novell owns the copyrights and some trademarks, they sold some of the goods to sco. Sco claims it owns it all now. Maybe m$ is involved and maybe not but it sure seems weird that someone is trying to sue all the other unix users.
