how to post anonymous in newsgroups

Hi-

I was not sure where to post this question so i guess here will do.

How do i post anonymous in usenet discussion forums? google groups.

This is only for my privacy, nothing else.

ummm....I'm not sure I understand your question. Maybe make an account with bogus information and use a handle that nobody would recognize as you? Not really sure exactly what you're asking though, so I'm not sure if this answer will help you.

well....for instance....google wants to verify the email addy you gave was real.
when you sign up . that can be tracked and that`s not anonymous right?

I would say use a proxy server to connect to the Internet to hide yourself, and then just log in as a guest (if possible) on whatever forum/message board you want. Though you might not have full access that you would if you were logged in as a member.

Exactly right, bongpilot. However, the way around that is to set up a temporary bogus email address (free of course). Use it while you need it, then dump it. Give all fake info for the email account, *and* the place you're posting to. If you have any other questions, just keep em comin' :D.

Yeah but what is the deal with doing that, sounds like you are going to start trouble within a forum and then leave. I donno, that's just how I see it with that way of thinking.

nuffing wrong with questions, long as they're worded carefully... people here are very touchy, quite understandable considering the number of lamers lurking the AP corridors.

If someone is REALLY intent on tracking you, then they will... depending on the resources at their disposal, of course. Otherwise, for a simple newsgroup, a free webmail address and a little creativity in the signup procedure should be all you need.

As Wrayth says if they really wanna find you they will.

A few simple steps you can take:

1. Log in via an anonymous proxy

2. Use a free mail provider NOT in your country (www.mail.com is very very good)

3. If your really paranoid then dont use simple text strings,
For example if we're talking about marujuana.....

- WEED Becomes W33D
- Marujuana becomes MJ or MaryJane or greenage etc...
- BONG becomes B)0NG
- SPLIFF becomes SP11FF

Im sure your creative enough to make up your own!
Dont get me wrong this isnt fool proof but if there is anyone (CIA, FBI, MI5, ATF, GCHQ) looking out for particular sets of strings of words then this will help confuse and dilute them.

Yes that's a good way of thinking, but you need to talk in codes that are a little more complex than 1337 talk. That's very common these days that I think even the FBI could pick up on.

If you want to be anonymous, why post through google. Google is NOT the place for that. In fact google is the best search engine I know, but it's logging everything. Just thought I would let that out of the bag. Now why not post directly to NNTP?? Use a proxy and a dedicated NNTP server. Your ISP has one, most likely. But if not try some of the comercially available one's. (newsfeeds. giganews, etc) OR search google for "public usenet"

Most usenet groups will also have a few people who maintain FAQs for a particular group. Search out those and most will have review of news feeds and security issues. I'll tell you though, if are in the US and someone wants to find you they will. One word... carnivore.

you should always make a few email accounts, for uses other than personal... for example i have an address that i use only to sign up for boards, newsgroups, etc... All fake info, and i usually set up pretty strict Spam filters... Use an anonymous proxy , although i don't think you have to worry...

btw- We live in America (USA), and i don't care who is listening! If i want to speak my mind, then i do so... It's one of our given rights, might as well use it... I seriously doubt the FBI is blacklisting p0t-heads for posting in newsgroups... as long as yer not trying to make a deal ;)
