My friend had that same thing happen to his laptop (don't remembe the model, it is about three years old now). It started with the LCD screen bein very tricky, like it had to be in the right spot or it wouldn't work. Then it just went out all together and the external monitor port would not work. he sent it in and got it worked on, I think it was nder $200 though because his laptop was out of warrenty. There really isn't much you can do about it, you have to have a tech look at it or someone who knows about that stuff.

Card and connector to the LCD screen is what was replaced by Compaq.

Thanks, izzit RAM can cause that trouble occur also? Because I can't hear any sound from my Laptop not like Desktop, if RAM problem, there's sound...
Not really, my friend's was just bad... no beep codes or anything.
That day i asked my friend about it, he said maybe the RAM was lossed... anyway thanks
what do you mean by lossed?
I mean difuse, sorry my English very weak..
Apparently lots of Compaqs have problems with the video card heat sink. They appear to be offering free repairs, possibly even to out of warrantee machines(?). There's a slashdot mini-thread on it here.
when you hooked up your monitor did you remember to hit like function f7 or whatever it is to switch the screens mode to an external monitor? I know it may sound obvious but just in case you may have forgotten....
LOL hey that's a good point, never thought to ask that. Either way though the card still sounds like it's having issues and will need to be looked at professionally. LCD screens just don't stop working without reason. But at least if that simple step was overlooked, the laptop would be functional until it was looked at!

I already press f7 to swicth to External Monitor.... but nothing happen....
Seems to be a problem with the video card on the laptop. A bit more tricky to troubleshoot laptops than PCs. Beep codes are normally not there for laptops.
Best is to bring it to Compaq and get them to have a look at it. Most of the time they should be able to give you the rough estimate on what the problem and the cost to repair on the spot.
I noticed they seem to have a lot of problems with their video cards. Same thing with their desktops. The EP series with the Matrox video card. I had like about 10-20 in the office die on me bcos the video card failed so they came and replaced them. All at different times. Luckily it was still under warranty.
Yeah I would just call Compaq (or HP-Compaq now) and see if they will still be able to give you a hand. If you take a look at the link j3r posted, the person says they just simple called Compaq and Compaq took it from there to get it fixed. So you can try that and go from there. Because if Compaq will replace it for free... you're home set.
