Everybody knows that athletes are the cause of about 90% of all the rape , murder and
other mayhem in America. I say it's time the SOBs got real jobs like the rest of us and

If they did get regular jobs like the rest of america then they wouldn't be thinking hey I have millions of dollars I can do what ever I want and if I do get caught I will just hire a big shot lawyer and he\she will get me off with a fine or community service. And I do think they are way over paid for something anyone can do

Sportsman do think they're hotshots although it is not a manifestation of the mind [something you could truly be proud of]. And yeah, why should brain-workers get paid way less compared to someone who hasn't ever heard of Dante but can run a hundred meters in less then 9 sec...

If memory serves me correctly most of the publicized mass murders; ex: school shootings and Buckhead Atlanta shooting were committed by the "Non-sports" people.
You are going to have sickos or fanatics in every aspect of life be it religion, sex, politics, games, or whatever. If were going to ban something, I say lets create a penal colony for all the people that display fanaticism. Of course that would mean a large number of politically prominant Democrats. he he!
Seriously though, we should not catagorize everyone that plays sports as being criminals. The last time I checked, punishing a group of individuals, when there is not an unlawful act being conducted in a cohesive effort, was considered to be "discrimination." A word you will rarely see me through around.
Another thought since 100% of the criminal hacks are conducted by computer users, should we ban computers, or just chat forums were ideas can be shared?

The reason sports stars get paid millions is because the stupid public pay to watch them or buy the products that are featured in the commercials on sports TV

As far as the overpaid crybabies and thugs in professional sports, I have done all I can do and refuse to buy and/or watch any top-tier professional sport (I do occasionally watch minor league stuff) and do watch muchos college sports (although the argument could go they get paid as well, it just isn't out there on the table for all to see); however, I would not go so far as to say to ban sports over the matter. If enough people quit spending exhorbinant amounts of money on tickets and merchandise (hit teams in the pocketbooks), the situation will eventually take care of itself.

As for their pay, if I had a skill that no one else had, and was in demand I would demand that much pay as well...remember the average athleat has a five year career, they better make as much as they cna in those years.

No we should not ban sports, First I play sports that is the first reason. Second athletes make so much because, people pay that much to be intertained. Now the Teacher, Cop and Firefighter thing I will say this it is a lot easier to become a teacher then it is, to become a professional Football player. Now the reasons that teachers make least pure economics there are a hell of alot more teachers then there are atheles. Hey I got one why don't we Ban any one that doesn't have asthma they use more oxygen then those with Asthma.

There is no need to ban them. If sports in general keep going the way that it is they are eventually going to turn off the general public. Players’ salaries continue to rise therefore the teams raise prices to move the costs to the fans. They are going to make it so that the general public cannot afford to go to the games. Right now there are games that you cannot see in the local areas unless the game is sold out. When the general public is not able to see the games then they will lose interest. Once they lose interest then who is going to pay the teams to pay the players?

In the inner city guess what alot of the students do they Play sports.
Guess what if there were no sports guess what they would be doing. Selling Drugs and all types of other things they shouldn't be doing. I can vouch for this because before I started playing and got into them alot that is what I did. Now sports have there problems but the general thing, that you get from them is alot more worth it then to just simply get rid of them.
Now maybe modify them yeah, but no never get rid of.

I use to be from Chicago. These kids would never go get a job. (maybe just a couple, but a very few). Sports is one of there number one pastime. If you drive down the streets you'll see bunches of kids playing basketball, football, baseball. If they did not have sports, then I know for a fact that they would be either in a gang or in the slammer.
I don't live in Chicago now, but trust me, I know enough to know that what I just is true. There is no getting a job for a lot of kids.

So if you managed to make it onto a team to play sports professionally then your automatically a rapist and a drug user?
Playing sports teaches these kids some discipline. They have to stick together to win the game, so it also teaches them teamwork. Don't you see, that these kids will keep playing sports for a long time there fore keeping them off the streets for a long time.

I could understand something like 15% but thats it. I've known some professional football players, and the ones that I knew were real nice people. I know this becaause I was around them for a year or so.
As a former high school and college athlete I can say that the vast majority of people didn't do drugs and rape the occasional women (in fact the numbers of athletes that did this was much smaller then the number of frat boys.). Most of us with professional dreams (my sport was purely armature so my aim was the Olympics) would never have jeopardized those for something so stupid. Where their rapists and drug users in sports (including professional) sure, but they would be rapists and drug abusers without sports, an asshat is an asshat regardless of their athletic ability.Quote:

Just out of curiosity bballad, which sport did you play in college? My uncle wrestled all throughout college, but blew out his knew. If i'm not mistaken he was some sort of state champ. I'll have to ask him again sometime.
Hey, I wrestled a little bit in school. Not much, but I could beat just about anyone there.

Yeah, i never played any sports during school or anything, just during the summer. Baseball, soccer, etc... That was when i was sorta young though.

Okay, on to more serious things. Not buying tickets to your teams games is a really good way to get the ticket prices lowered. I live in Jacksonville and the Jags weren't selling tickets to any of their games for a couple of years, for combined reasons, losing seasons, plus the fact that you had to sell your child and a kidney to be able to afford the tickets. They lowered the prices considerably (I think it works out to $13/game for season tickets now) and the stands are packed. They took what their fans were telling them to heart, and lowered the prices. It worked out better for everyone involved.
What I can't understand though is why someone like Kobe Bryant, who could have a huge number of women in any city he was in, simply because he is Kobe Bryant, would rape someone. :confused:

Everyone knows the Titans own the Jaguars! It's common knowledge. Be ready, we're going to the superbowl this year, and we won't screw it up this time. I must admit though, the Jaguars have a strong team. Not sure if it was last year or the year before, but they had a hell of a defense over there.

What I think happened with the kobe bryant thing was that this woman consented to everything that happened that day/night. But after it was all over, she realized that if she said she was raped by him, that she would be able to receive a lot of money.

Yes due to the fact taht teh NFL seaseon hasn't started (so the bears havent been eliminated form playoff contentions yet.) and we are now in the final year before the end (cubs and sox both in contention late in the year). I am living in a wonderful dreamworld of cross town world series and bears superbolw victories :)
As for Kobes alleged rape, some times you want what you can't have...and he may have been so full of himself that he didn't relise that she didn't want him. On the other hand she may be lieing about the rape..this is why a lot of athleates video tape all of their encounters. A number of rape cases where dismissed after video evadence showed that the sex was consenual

Framework, the Jags have a hell of a defense this year, as evidenced by the fact they only got beat by 4 points last night :( The offense, on the other hand, looked like they borrowed most of their players from the girls dorm at the School for the Deaf and Blind. I was pretty impressed by Hatchette though (the guy who's replacing Jimmy Smith during his stint in rehab :rolleyes: )
Cheyenne, I'm going to take into account the fact that you are young and impressionable before I rip into you about your "she made it up" comment. If you had any idea how many women are accused of that, and how many women choose to not even press charges against their rapists because of that...Rape is the only crime where the victim is assumed to be guilty, and has to prove she was actually the victim of a crime. A very large number of women go thru their lentire lives w/out ever getting the satisfaction of seeing their attacker punished because of people w/ attitudes like that. I understand that in this case, there is the possibility of a lot of money, and if she settles out of court for "an undisclosed amount of money" then I will agree with you about this. But please please think about your attitude. Rape is a horrible thing to experience, and having to relive it in a room full of complete strangers, half of whom are trying to say that you asked for it, or you really wanted it and then changed your mind, or are flat out calling you a liar is one of the most horrible things in the world.

Most of them do it in secrate. lets face it deb, some athleats do rape women (there is a percentage of deviants in any group), but you also have some women who see athleats as easy marks for cash. Rather recently an accused rapist who was also an NBA player proved his innicence with a tape of the hotel room incounter.
I will also say that while a large number of women never report rape(and this is a horrable thing rapists should be punished to the fullist extent of the law). Some women are quick to accuse, I have personal experience with one girl who clamied rape, after getting drunk with a guy, going up to his bed room and striping for him and not remembering what happened next. I know for a fact taht they both passed out from the alcohal (he was too drunk to do anything any way). But because she coudn't remember the rest of the evening she was positive she was raped.
