I can't figure out whats going on

HI there..Well my problem is...

When I open up my winmx and it rebuilds my library instead of adding my song files it adds a bunch of these .exe files and Idk where the hell they came from most of them is porno and dvd videos I'm scared? how did they get on my computer I can't open them they are just there..
I tried going to the main file where they are stored and deleting them but after a few secs they reapear???

I took a screen shot to show u there are atleast 760 files of this junk..
I tried window washer as well but that doesn't work and i can't find my old post where deleting hidden files...

If anyone could please tell me what's goin on i'd appricate it very much :) :)

Yeah, I would say something alone the lines of a virus. You have a virus scanner? I recommend a full update/scan. I doubt those are actually the files they claim to be, as they are all the same size. I bet you my 2 cents that its a replicating virus! :D

the answer is simple, uninstall that crap.
then scan for virus, trojans and spyware and if you dont find anything i'd suggest formatting just to make sure.

Hummm... well it seems someone can't wait to get rid of files 'eh. Other than the obvious fact that she mindlessly downloaded some p2p worm... what does the file shareing software itself have anything to do with the worms replication? First of all its mainly your directories you need to worry about mainly cause p2p worms mostly copy themselves to some default shared directories and wait for other peaple to mindlessly download. As long as these directories and the worm exist there is going to be about 100 files copied into these directories at the startup & If anything else (especially if you have exel and crap) I would suggest warning your e-mail pals and staying offline for awhile except to maybe updated your AV. And only as a last resort I would suggest reformatting your comp.

I agree with The Specialist that re-formatting is a little bit over the top.

Try the PC-cillin website and run "housecall"......this is their free online AV scanner.

Try the Panda Software site and run their free scanner also.

Search for "SpyBot Search & Destroy", download it, update it, then run it.............delete what it suggests.

That should get rid of the malware that has inserted itself onto your box.


I hope that this helps

1) Find where all your download files are kept.
2) Copy the files that you use/want to a new folder.
3) Uninstall WinMX and delete the directory from the Program Files folder (Assuming that's where its installed.).
4) Run an AV program with UPDATED virus definitions.
5) Run Spybot/Ad-aware (Each catches things the other doesn't.).
6) Re-install WinMX.

Also depending on what the AV program comes up with, I'd consider cleaning (meaning format) the hard-drive on a bi-monthly schedule...

Okay now that thats out of my system I have to agree with the specialistand jag291. a reformat isnt necsecary at this point. If you look through the tutorials there is a good one on recovering from virii. It will probably be as easy to fix as doing what jag said but if not look around there is a wealth of information on this site. And from now on be carefull what you download and DO NOT click on .exe's that pop up mysteriously.

I don't even know how they got onto my comp..well actually I think I do now..Btu I can't becertain cause I was downloading an application file from winmx and the symbol looked like winzip extractor but it wouldn't open up and froze my computer files after that it started to happen i belive but I got rid of that file since it didn't work..

I did reinstall winmx but that didn't wor

I might have to raise my hand too like jaguar291, because there must be something that not only nihil but also everyone might know more than me. We don't know everything, some of us know more than others in certain areas. I consider myself to be well rounded but I surely don't know it all and am not even close to that.
