so as soon as it's plugged in, the system restarts?
Yah as soon as its plugged in , the system restarts
hmmmm... this may sound kooky, but try installing the drivers first maybe
Try what Plastic suggested. Install the drivers first then plug it in. If it still reboots your computer it's probably broken and you need to return it.
This looks likely to be broken hardware to me.
It is extremely unlikely to be a driver problem with the modem - if Windows doesn't like what it sees then it will prompt you for the appropriate drivers.
Check the USB slot itself is OK - i.e. plug any other USB device into it (mouse, scanner, whatever), to check it isn't a hardware/software problem on your PC/mobo.
Do you have any other USB devices attached to your PC?
If not check that the USB drivers for your mobo itself are up to date.
All drivers are uptodate and when i connect my didgital camera there is no problem,
note :- the modem is a CDMA phone
Do you have another usb cable? I would try using that. it may or may not do anything
two usb ports and plugging in both make system to restart
is that modem supposed to work with that windows system? there could be a compliance problem. Try it on another computer to see if it does the same thing. If it does, return in and get a new one.
The modem is windows compliant , i tried with another computer its working fine, but not with my computer
thanks
EDIT:
OK the modem works on another computer..
I would suspect a problem with the mother board or wiring to the USB port..
Provided you used the same USB cable on both computers..that is..
What is happening ..as it appears is that you are spiking the 5v supply when the device is connected.. this can be because the current drain of the Modem is higher than other devices you have used.. and this is why the fault happens now.. the cause..
Check the Main PSU plug on the mobo.. see if there is any brown colouration on any of the pins.. also (assuming the usb connectors are the On-Board ones) check for any insect colonies on the reverse side of the mobo.. or the presence of any rodents in the case..(not intending to insult).. But check the MOBo PSU Plug..
Cheers
BTW.. are the computers similar in respect to hardware.. psu, mobo, etc..
thanks undertaker, i checked and the problem is spike, thanks for ur valuable info, now the problem is sorted out
