Do you have a screen shot?? I'm assuming that it's not simply the taskbar being moved but characters being upside down?
Ctrl-Alt-down" inverts the display, and "Ctrl-Alt-up" puts it back to normal
Thanks bong pilot. Its o.k bittens he got it.
8 years in IT support and I didn't know that combination.
I'm going back to college.
No problem....glad i could help.
Well I thought it had something to do with the later nVidia display drivers..
Screen rotation.. Had a customer ring up tonight in a panic.. oh whell his chiropractor will be making a bit of extra cash..lol
cheers
which windows mark...on XP pro it doesnt worx
Does not seem to work on Win98SE either, never knew about a key combination to do this, always assumed the only way was useing GDI32.DLL services
Yup, I'd be curious to know the OS this happened on. I've tried it on 98SE and W2K SP4 but it doesn't work on either of those....
That CTRL ALT Up and down did not work for me eithier on a Win2k SP4 Box.
If someone came to me with that problem, I would of thought they were messing with me and told them to turn the monitor on its top. ;) What is the point of being able to turn your display upside down? What would you use that for? Why would it be included with Windows?
The crtl-alt-up/down trick should only work with certin vidieo drivers that support it, as I recall
I think that bballad has the answer..................I have tried it on Me, and it doesnt work....does something...or tries to, but no inversion. I will mess around with different video carded DEVICES :) (bbb....) as this does not seem to be OS driven?
Cheers
Hmmmm, Mine only goes up and down. No upsidedown on xp Home. Man is my life getting so boring I'm doing lame stuff like this?
Freddy ;)
Fred,
I admire your enthusiasm...............I was like you about 30 years ago!
stick in there and go for it
best wishes
an old fart
i think were being put on here..for what earthly reason would someone program key combinations to invert the screen. that would be useful! (not) Somewhere someone would have pulled that on me but i never even heard of it outside of a virus. and why dont they make funny viruss anymore
opps! never mind i got it to work!
Have you seen what display drivers do these days? It's ridiculous. My roommates Nvidia card will let him twist the screen anyway he wants, angle it so it looks like yer looking at the monitor on an angle, even though it's a direct view of it...
And there i was thinking about telling you to get the secratary to walk past and drop or throw a pil of papers on it again...
Nightfalls_Girl
It seems to be more vidijo card rel8ted than OS.
Its a dell optiplex 260 w2000 and sp2
Wheck it out on the dell website for specs of same.
do you know sometimes I must type replies for the sake of my health....
The current nVidia drivers .. since v40.1 or so, have supported "display rotation".. this is for multiple monitor setups as well as .. Inverted monitor installations..ie hanging the buggers from the ceiling.. this is now popular with the current breed of LCD's..Quote:

cheers

Well the reason you might want to use this is there are LCD monitors that swivel nicely so you can have a different aspect. This is good for some applications. I have set something like this up for people that monitor stocks. They turn monitors on their side with these swivels to get a longer screen to fit more content while still keeping the resolution legible. Oh and with my drivers this doesn't work but the hotkeys are configurable to change this or I can go to the nvidia control panel to change it there.
Hmmmm. it has to be a conspiracy. yep.
Screen inversion is used when linking a Beamer to the machine and having the beamer in the celing....IE, Upside down, this would then turn it right way up.
Noia............I think that you are perfectly correct!!! I do recall the earlier days (about last Tuesday :) ) when you had to do something like that to project stuff onto a wall/screen? This is way before the days of modern data projectors...it was a bit like an overhead projector that did slides? but this projected the screen.......only because of the simple lenses it would be upside down?
I will have to check that on some of my older kit
Thanks folks...nice thread.
After a long break (5 or 6 months), I'm back :) ! Anyway, yeah, a screen shot would be nice. Maybe you could give us some sort of a list of video devices that support this? I mean, it seems like a hardware feature since it obviously isn't a Windows feature (runs over to dual boot and try it on redhat :p).

I once found a prog that was called "badday" and it was a humor only app... It turned your screen upside down, until ya clicked or did anything else... I used it on my friends comp... Scared him for a sec, but then we had a good laugh :)
Just thought I'd share that

Howdy:
My kid's display was upside down. The cntl-alt-down combo worked. His machine is an HP running XP-home, and has a CRT. My daughter has the same machine with a differenct CRT, and it worked there, too. Mine and my wife's are both hacked together with LCDs running Win2K-Pro, and it didn't work on either of those. I'm not sure if it's the A-Open video cards or the LCD monitors that are preventing it.

beermeister: Please look at the blinking date of the post next time (it indicates its an old post). Thanks!
I had that problem of the upside down screen, i believe it has something to do with vid card. But it happen to a few users at work, and although they freaked out and the ctrl-alt UP/Down did not work all i did was just refresh the resolution and everything came back to normal and it never happened again...it was weird.
