pop ups
I have Pop up stopper, Sure Clean Pro. I have no idea how but i am being slammed with pop ups no matter what i seem to do. Is there something right out loud i am missing? When i get up in the morning my IE is three rows deep. I just walked into the room and an alta vista search page was open searching "cheers" Thanks for any help.

My best advice would be to block popups at a firewall level. ZoneAlarm works perfectly for me. It blocks all the popups I don't want (i.e. porn ads) and allows the ones I do want (i.e. banking windows). Between that and the popup blocking on NS7 I am no longer bothered by popups in any way. Unless you're talking about Windows Messenger popups, in which case you just need to disable the service.

Sounds like you have to worry about adware and spyware more than anything else. I'd suggest you pick up a copy of SpyBot S&D from http://www.safer-networking.org/. This should get rid of all the pop-up ads when you aren't browsing. Also if you want a handy pop-up stopper. I've used Pop-up Stopper Free before and it's decent, but the best results I've had are with the Google Bar. The Pop-up stopper feature is very handy because you can allow pop-ups on certain sites (Such as AO... which requires seperate windows when you click on certain links) -- http://toolbar.google.com/

Well, I'll tell you what worked for me.
Spybot S&D (Free Program) Here
AdAware (Free Program) Here
and the Google Search bar. Here
That is for Internet Explorer. I use Mozilla as a browser most of the time and that has an excellent popup stopper built into it.

Make sure your messenger service is disabled. If you don't know how to do it manually, go to www.grc.com and download the messenger disabler tool.

To disable Windows Messenger popups, you do not need a program to do it for you. Simply disable the messenger service. Attached is a screenshot wich should explain how:D

If you do that, the service will start back up upon reboot. You need to disable the service completely like in Striek's screenshot.

I think opera is the best solution.. It is an excellent fast browser with all options like hiding images, stopping popups, javascripts at fingertips....
