Which firewall, what OS and how do you know that they got through? Most immediate suggest would be to disconnect and ensure that they haven't installed anything on your system.
There was a message from them on my desk top...Nothing is deleted so far..Im runnign XP Pro...I had a nortin firewall...Im am pretty nervise..Help please
Ok just a check does anyone besides you have physical access to you computer? ;)
Stop using XP and get yourself a real firewall. Preferably a hardware solution AND something along the lines of Outpost, Sygate, or tiny. (for windows) (Or just use a better O.S.)
P.S. And don't beatch about antipoints, it'll only make things worse. (Geez, how many times have I had to type that?)
Have you run any programs/exploits recently??Quote:

No....Is Windows 200 Pro ok?
My brother has access..But he wouldnt...Or would he....
Anti points are the last thing im worryed about right now!
WINDOWS 2000****
Might want to check the Event Viewer Log to see who's been logged in recently. You may still want to check and ensure that nothing else is left over (aka keyloggers, trojans, etc.). Run your AV software to pick up some stuff and go through your system thoroughly to see if anything else is there. And make sure to do this when not connected to the net.
omg..i didnt even think of that...thank you all very much...Ill post an update soon...

David
Ok..i checked it...a couple of iP addresses showed up...I will not post those...But how do i stop them?

Probe your ports to see what the firewall is letting in.
Since Mr. ImbibedParasite brought up a dead thread, thought I'd drop a few words in:
Whats wrong with Norton's fine line of products, especially their firewall..? If the user isn't a complete incompetent jackass then the firewall works perfectly.. he probably had it set to allow all incoming connections and what not... don't blame Norton for his stupidity....
Actually, I recently had to troubleshoot a computer with Norton's Firewall. When I went to disable the option that prevents pop-up windows, Norton's didn't seem to recognize the change. I had to reboot the machine each time I changed an option. IMHO, that's not a good firewall.
Based on my experiences with it thus far.. it doesn't rate that good.
I've used it and had no problems.. what kind of system were you running it on and what version of it? And for restarting the system after implementing that change was unnecessary, you just have to restart Norton... atleast thats what worked for me.
What version were you playing with MsM, I am testing 5.1 right now and I got to tell you, I am fairly impressed. I believe thay have come a long way since their earlier versions.Quote:

I'd have to check. Not sure which version it was or how ...errrhmm... "legit" it was (which might also be the problem). My first suggestion was buy legit so there's no problem with updating (since the user kept telling me not to update).
ok ok...i dont need the help any more....but thnx for the help
Check your antivirus (Norton I presume) for excusion in the options menu... if someone had physical asscess they could so easily install a trojan/keylog any drop it into the exclusion list so that norton would never bother telling you about it.
i dont need HELP! no more posty posty...
it might be working, but you MAY not have it configured correctly.
sorry...didn't realize how old this was :( <3
ok...NO MORE POSTY POSTY....
posty posty posty
Looks like people still don't listen to you Irish D00d
Well, first off, I would recommend replacing the fan on your search engine. It may be burned out. If that doesnt work, try cleaning off your hard drive in the sink, or a magnet. Put acid on the platter to get a very deep sexy squeaky cleaning. Now, for my question. Where do you come from cotton eyed joe?
software firewalls are crap my 10 yr old bro can hack norton you jack!Quote:

LATTER JACK
wait....what just happened?
Wow, michael737n, okay basically if you know how to set a firewall up to actually block some incoming connections as :-\ said, your 10 year old brother might not be able to 'hack' it. Blocking some connections you say? *GASP!*Quote:

Anyway you should calm down on the flaming a bit too, shouldnt disrespect people who are just trying to help or bring some humor into it.
lol....aggreed..
sorry for the rude comment
michael737n - unless you are flipping dipswitchs (or jumping jumpers) to change rules on the firewall then you are using a software firewall of some sorts.
Hell, one of the best on the market is Checkpoint FW1... they are software. Of course you can buy hardware appliances that are dedicated to only running a firewall, but that doesn't make it a hardware firewall.
I have seen this misnomer used much too often as of late.
