Why don't you ask first if there is a chat room and not put it in the Suggestion Forum right away. Don't you think some member got the idea before you about a chat room, you're not the only one that thinks around here. And for future references, DO A SEARCH, and stop being lame.

yeah there was, but i think it was taken down when Jupiter Media took over, like they don't have the money to run it. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

I don't think it was money. I believe it was the fact they didn't want to deal with the crap that often comes with chatrooms ("He said this!!! WAH!!!!!!!", "How come he's got OPs!?! I want OPs!!! WAAAH!!!!", etc.)

I once asked intmon to host it for him, all he had to do was to put a link on the site.

Shrekkie, it also think it has to do with all the crap that comes with IRC.
Not only internal fights about ops, bannings, rude language,... but also problems with illegal and abusive content. This is one of the reasons that M$ closed their free chatrooms in Europe. It's a high cost to have one monitor the rooms. This all seems exagerated and it probably is, but many parents (and organizations) are concerned about their children being able to get in touch with people they better don't get in touch with.

NO! But the IRC channels above are the ones ao users frequently tend to use.

I know what you're talking about, but we have some irc running now, with ops and opers in place right now, all setup. It wouldn't be much of a hassle to have some more ao-ers coming chatting.

Like I said , they didn't need to worry about it , all they could do is put on a referrer , even legally they could attache a note on that referrer. The servers are running anyway :D

i dont care what AO users tend to use...im saying AO should have one ON THIS WEBSITE!

Chat rooms are nice because you can get an answer to your question pretty fast. But the advantage that message boards have over chatrooms is the data is permanent; it doesn't just flow off the screen into oblivion. This enables people to use the database to search for answers and other info.

It is also harder for somebody to flood a message board than a chatroom. :rolleyes:
