Heh heh, are you on a school or work computer?
My home PC...
That's weird some more info would be helpful, what OS are you using, and do you have admin rights to the machine?
~Oh yeah, and will a mod move this thread, please?? Next time post your question in a more appropriate forum, this one is for people to post tuts in.
I have Windows ME.
I have full admin rights to my PC.
Re-installing windows do not help.
I recently deleted my kernel.dll file during virus infection, would that affect?
How do I make ms-dos available again?
Thanks foryour comments.
Can you shut down into MS-DOS mode? Deleting important system files is NOT a good idea. Are you sure reinstalling windows doesn't help? Do you have a good AV installed?
I can shut down into MS-DOS mode.
Re-installing windows doesn't help.
I just can't open MS-DOS programs in windows.
~~What's an AV?
Is this DOS program an older 16bit program? What is it exactly?
AV means Anti-Virus.... i'm supposing you have one because yu say you deleted kernell during an infection.
That sounds like admin restrictions to me, so if you do have admin rights, make sure you are loged in with the admin account and check the permissions: CTRL Panel>Users and Passwords.
A piece of advice: Win sucks, but Win ME sucks even more. Switch to 2k Pro.
Perhaps re installing does not help, but maybe if you re format your C: drive and then reinstall it would. An AV is an anti virus there are numerous threads, explaining more about what an anti virus is and does, on this site. I hope this helps you with your problem.
What MS-DOS programs are you trying to run when you get the system restriction message? Maybe I misunderstood you, are you just trying to open MS-DOS when you get this message. Also, I don't think you should be able to do anything without your kernel.dll file. I guess I am lost without more info.
Sorry sm0kinp0t.... i guess i replied at the same time, didnt mean to copy.
check your registry
http://www.hal-pc.org/~clement/registry%20keys.htmlQuote:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WinOldApp]
"NoRealMode"=dword:00000001 Prevents users from running older DOS programs that can bypass windows (pol:user/ System/Restrictions/single-mode).
"Disabled"=dword:000000001 Disable all MS-DOS programs (pol:user/ System/Restrictions/MS-DOS prompt).
My reply to sysmin770:
ALL my DOS program does not work. It reads 'This program cannot be run due to restrictions on this computer.'
My PC does not have an user or pasword, so where do these admin restrictions come from?
Is there any other way besides reformatting?
Does anyone have access to your computer that might have played a joke on you? a jealous wife/girlfriend? Parents that think you spend too much time on the computer? ;)
All joking aside, it just sounds like someone disabled dos..here's a link that might help:
http://www.aaanalyzer.addr.com/msdospolicies.html
Maybe you installed some software that disabled it for you?
EDIT: Just reiterating what rcgreen stated above. Did you read that link?
Is there any other way other that re-formatting?
I don't have any users and passwords
The messege reads like this ' The program cannot be run due to system restrictions. Please contact....' when I start ANY MS-DOS program - including command.com.
Thanks to rcgreen, groovicus. I love u!!! My problems are solved!
