Well school is definately not the funnest place to be, but consider the benefits?! You can actually get a job if you head off to college. Something to think about. I sure wish I was studying when I was younger rather than getting high like I was back then.
I think you should reconsider.... :D
I don't totally agree. I think once you get the basics out of the way and get to learn what you are really into in college, it can be fun. I want to take every class dealing with computers at my school. I don't know if that is possible though. But if you are in a class that you like it can be cool. Plus, it gets me out of the house. If I didn't have to go to school I would be on my computer all day. So, in some ways school rocks, and in others it really sucks (e.g. english and history, but I am more of a math person). Just get through high school and the core in college, then you will be able to take classes you actually enjoy. Hang in there man.
Same here, yeah, HS sucked and everything, but once you get into college, its pretty fun. Once you get all your Gen Ed classes out of the way its even funner. I like the responsibility that comes with being in College. :) I get to pick what I want, when I go to bed, when I wanna study, when I wanna do my homework, and all other kinds of things. lol
I'll be a sohpmore at the end of this current semester. And so far, my college experience has been enjoyable.
I'd much rather be at school than home. You learn at school, I personally enjoy learning. Also school has computers with internet, friends, and purpose. All things that I dont have at home. I DO get really mad at the district though...thats an entirely different topic though...
The only time the internet is fun at school, is if the sysadmin is stupid. lol. He sure is at our school, I have complete access to the local computer, and I even have access to all the teachers presentations. lol
cheyenne, me thinks you got your "Gen Ed" stuff out of the way, quite efficiently.. :DQuote:

Last time I looked that was hardly the proper grammar and spelling.. :globwhore
my advice to Larry would be..
"turn off the frigging computer and get your homework done"
"strive to be the best you can.. "
uhh.. ah no, that wasn't me that said all this.. it was my mom.. she stole my cookies..
hijacked my account she did.. must be.. :halo:
edit : cheyenne, remember.. good future learjet pilots need to learn Gen Ed well in order to pass the test..
lol jenjen
Gen Ed= general Education courses. Its what we all call it. lol And I'm not gonna be a learjet pilot I'm gonna be a Citation X pilot :D
The simple fact that you are able to read this post should be evidence enough that school is a good thing. I have worked with people who cannot multiply single digit numbers without a calculator. Think of all the places in the world without school and whether or not you would rather be there.
My grandfather dropped out of school when he was 13 when the Second World War broke out to support his family. It was 20 years later, when he wanted to start his own business, when he realized how incredibly stupid he was (his words, not mine) and taught himself arithmetic so he would be able to withdraw money from a bank account and do his own taxes. It was 5 years later before he was educated enough to start. It was because of his interrupted education and the subsequent 20 year hiatus that he then had to work 7 days a week, 12 hours a day until he retired to earn enough money to ensure that his children would not be put in the same position.
His opinion on why WWII was allowed to start? The German population was not educated enough to realize the propaganda they were subjected to, and the rest of the was too uneducated to care.
I personally am in no small way grateful to the benefits and oppurtunities that my country's education system has provided me. I know I will never fear starvation nor homelessnes because of the society I was born into and the hard work and dedication it took those who built our society to include a state funded education system with it.
Nobody will ever realize what they have until they have lost it.
In my point of view saying something that high school sucks may imply that you did not give the thought a little bit more of thinking. If you really weigh the benefits in the long run its really worth it.
I'll put my self as an example. I was born in a small country in Central America called El Salvador. Over there students go to school 6 days a week. Monday - Saturday. But the education is way much better then over here in my own point of view. Also the teachers aren't as leniant as the teachers over here. Over there if you fail one class you fail the whole year. Which if you really think about it imagine failing a class over here and each year you have to re-take the whole entire year again because you failed just one class. Now that would really suck.
If you think about it over here in Canada and the States if you fail one class lets say grade 10 math well you can either do summer school [ where I was born there is no summer school ] or you can just simply re-take the course once again. Over there it's either I drop out or I re-take the whole entire year again.
As well over here you dont pay for your schooling unless if you go to a private school. Yeah you might argue but I pay for my books. Wow like what $50-80. Over here you have the privelege to get a good free education where as in other countries many people would give anything to be in your shoes to just be able to read. For example my mother was not able to complete her education cause she had to take care of my older brother and I to make sure that we were safe during the civil war that was going on in my country. Which had already begun 4 years before I was born if I am correct. When do you ever think about something like that over here.
Now saying that high school sucks is making a statement without really giving it much thought. Without really taking into consideration a lot of things.
Education is one of the keys to your success in this world. Education can take you to many places where without it you would not be able to get. Even today in some places you cant even obtain a job without having your G.E.D. Education over here is basically a free gift handed to you when your young and it's your choice if you want to take it or leave it. Read my quote at the bottom and maybe you might learn something.
But that of course is my opinion.
School is what ever you make of it..
Some people are good at school and others, like myself arn't good at school.
School can be bad or good, it's how much effort that you put into it that will decide how well you go or how bad you go..
creative
True Creative school can be much harder for others but I think that this should not stop them from learning.
To get a little off the topic here. I have met some blind people who amaze me at times even though they cannot see they still keep on pushing to become better. Actually if you ever get the change to talk to a blind person you will actually begin to appreciate things more. I always did wonder how do they read braille so well ? I tried it onced and closed my eyes an man did I find it hard. At first all I felt were little lumps and making some sense out of it was even harder. But once I saw the person to whom I was speaking to do it I was so intrigued as to how his hands moved over his book which such fluicidy [<-- is that even a word ? ] and he was able to perfectly read it all to me. It was a pretty cool thing to see.
What are talking about school is cool you mad fecker.
heh... oh to be at 'school' again..... I admit high school was a bit sucky, college and university were totally bloody amazing though - it feels like I had more disposable cash then than I do now but that is probably because I got by on very little cash during college and Uni.
Honestly work is the suckiest of all things - frequently you have to do something for someone and be nice to them (office politics), even though you think they are a complete tosser. Similarly you have to meet deadlines wether you want to or not (sometimes it means working REALLY late) and the consequences of not achieveing those deadlines can be a lot more severe than in school. For instance take this as a worst case scenario... repeatedly fail to meet deadlines> lose job > no money coming in > lose house cos you can't repay the mortgage > go back to live with mom and dad and suffer all their scorn cos you've lost your job > lose girlfriend cos you have fallen on hard times and she's fed up with you etc etc (never happened to me personally but I know folks who have been in this situation - not good at all)
take it from me ... I know it's not always a bed of roses but at the end of the day schools not that bad - and you can at least look forward to college and uni and week long parties etc :D enjoy it whilst you still can
Z
wow.. some pretty thoughtful comments made in this thread..
hats off to Striek and Agent_Steal especially..
im still on my conclusion that school sucks i have not been to college yet so i cant say it will always suck and according to many of you people you guys say it will be amazing. if college is anything like the hell i have been going through then it'll be a waste but it does pay off eventually.
I haven't been to high school or to college, I'm in my last year of middle school right now. And, in my many :D years of school experience, I can tell you that school is the single worst use of my time. English, history, art, music, gym, and "home and careers" (aka homos and queers) take up half my day, and the rest is just my teachers reteaching the same crap that they have been teaching us since the second grade. It would be different if we were actually taught something there, but school is no longer a place of learning. Everything from our lessons to the lunch menus have been created by idiotic bureaucrats who enjoy wasting our communities' tax dollars and watching the students being taught nothing in return. Instead of actually teaching us, they just lower standards again and again and give the superintendant a huge pay raise, the day the new budget was rejected! And they continue to make life hell for the students, by creating all sorts of ridoculous regulations. I have to sign my name three times at last count to go take a piss! As for the "advantages" of going to school, we have a computer lab with several machines, but they're all running M$ Windows 98 on like a kb of memory! Guess how many times you need to sign to get at one of those, just to spend a half hour pressing the "any" key at the BSOD? However, college must be better, can only go up from here.

That's pretty funny, I guess it has gone downhill since I went through middle school. I'm just in my first semester at college. We can go to the restroom whenever we want. Even in the middle of class without asking. We can also just walk out of class whenever we want. It is kindof nice. Sure beats signing your name three times to use the restroom. If you break your arm or something, do they make you fill out a huge form before you can be taken to the emergency room?
Those who cry wolf! will not be listened to...think about that :)
When I was at school I could control my "cheap japanese bladder" for the 50 minutes or so that class took....are we looking at a second Pearl Harbour in your school?
Your school runs Win98?...and we get kiddies here asking how to hack their school system? You are in clover mate!!! no problem!!! but the 1kb of memory might make it take several months :D
From a technical viewpoint the "BSOD" is NT4 and that ilk, NOT 9x
Please try to be more accurate?
You winge too much and talk crap, in my opinion
Cheers...hope you grow up soon
I'm of an age that there were NO computers when I attended school. Now advancing to 'really old' I am trying to play catch up with all the new kids on the block, my work is electrical, programming PLC'c is part of it. However the IT part is what I do for myself because I enjoy it. If I could be back at school again, I would definately be working my ass off in the Physics and Maths. As these subjects are at the core of everything that we are using today. On a personal level, me and school were never going to be the best of friends ? However I would advise EVERYONE in their educational age to stick at it to the best of their ability, as one day you might just need it. And suffering ? now means that you don't have to suffer later.
Remember: It might seem like your whole life is spent at school at the moment, but when you do finally leave, you will realise ( too late ) that the best times are behind you.
FOr all those people who are still in Highschook, or middle school:
I know it can be tough, I know you can get sick of everything that you have to do, but trust me, if you don't want to be cooking hamburgers for the rest of your life then you need to stay in school, and at least get a 2 year degree.
Now also just think about it what a great opportunity and gift that you have been given. You have been provided with Free education. You have been given the chance to be able to learn how to read and write. Learn how to work out mathetical problems. Your basically learning some of the greatest gifts that anyone can be given. And you as a person are taking them for granted. Unlike in other countries where they aren't even given the oppurtunity to be able to even learn any of this necessities. Just think about that you should be grateful that you have been given this chance before you think about saying that school sucks.
Something to think about. School can only take you as far as your willing to go. Hey if you feel like dropping out of school in grade eleven. Well then the choice is up to you as an individual. But remember this you will only have yourself to blame in the end if your life ends up in misery.
nihil,
Yeah, whining is one of my strong points :D but, as the proud user of many Win98 machines they do bluescreen, in my school's case because of no stack pages left, or because of too little memory. These usually go away eventually after hitting enough keys. However, WinXP, which is NT 5 if I'm not mistaken, has also bluescreened on me, but instead of a Win9* style screen this told me that there was a page fault in a nonpaged area, and shut down. This is basically because Texas Instruments can't write device drivers. I'm getting Linux and FreeBSD soon, so hopefully it will not be a problem any longer :D And, yeah, I do hope to grow up soon
My school dayz:
Most teachers suck, most ppl were snobbish,we didn't learn anyhting of use(except for the fundementals of mathematics), we were shouted on, picked on(by teachers, other kidz were too damn affraid of me, he he).
But then again, now that i am doing home-schooling,we moved round about alot, and thus i have no friends, nothing to do but talk to you(;) he he -it rhymes), i miss all the girls that used to get such harsh crushes on me(i aint no pretty boy), but most of all i miss all the ppl that could be classifide as true friends,be it girl, be it boy.
But now, while
"I'D LIE JUST TO BE REAL"
"AND"
"I'D DIE JUST TO FEEL"(Smashing Pumpkins roOoOck)
i find it easy(easier) to "want" to learn, i do my work(i 1 day i would do more work than i did in a semester in school), i have to to learn even more about what i love, i can do whatever i want and i do too.
Now i can even smoke my weed WHILE i am learning ,wich i think is pretty ****en nice, since having this freedom my grades have gone UP, and so my mother wont bitch and moan about WEED making u stupid......
