If it were not for America, this would be an unruly world. This goes out to all the members who have talked smack about America and all of it's intentions.
Not like those countries that close their eyes to what is threating our existence. You know who you are. There is some dutch punk here that is always spewing anti-american jargon.

In stead of just posting something like this, why don't you post a little history lesson or something... I'd love to learn more about US history. Although I wouldn't trust a history lesson from someone who clearly underestimates the Dutch influence on the building of America.
May I recommend "U.S. History for Dummies" by Steve Wiegand?
In it, you'll learn that the Dutch once were the most successfull maritime traders in the Old World. You'll also learn that the Dutch founded New Amsterdam (now known as New York).
And Philips is Dutch :)
Let me tell you one thing, maynard... Without the Dutch, America wouldn't be what it is today. And without the Americans, the Netherlands wouldn't be what they are today. The same goes for the French. Some people seem to think that America did France the biggest favor in WW II, and that now is the time to pay back that debt. Those people seem to forget what France did for America some 200 years ago (I think it is safe to say that without France, America wouldn't be half of what it is today).
Interesting topic for your first post. Considering we both reside in the armpit of our great nation (new Jersey) I guess we do share some similarties, just not on the topic of your post.
Americans, much like you think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. We are not. The rest of the world hates us for reasons. We are an arogant, obnoxious, resource wasters, greedy, nosy, obese nation. But, we are also proud, and that counts for something. Please don't forget that our nation has only been around for a little over 200 years, a very short time in the grand scheme of national affairs. As for your question of where would the world be without the netherlands, I do not know.
Just so you know I am american, not foreign born.

I gave maldrad101(don't know if that's it cause I can't see the original thread from here) some positive points because being that this his first post I think he should be warned before banned. Although I don't agree with the nature of his post, it is his own opinion and I don't believe it is right to neg someone for their opnion, no matter how immature it is conveyed. His post did not harm anyone, so I don't believe we should harm him untill he shows a blatent disregard for the rules and policies. Just my opnion.

I happen to be of a Dutch heritage. In case you do not realize, the Dutch invented capitalism. The founding basis for your entire free market economy. Much like Americans, the Dutch are a proud nation. They remember thier accomplishements and take pride in them. Nearly half the country was once a series of lakes. They drained them. I am also well and truly fed up of the pro-American attitude that dominates most of the discussions in Cosmos. It seems you can't say anything critical of the USA without being negged and flamed by the fanatical nationlists who seem to make up a large part of AO's membership.
America also seems to think it can re-write history - for example the film U-571. I think you'll find that it was the BRITISH navy who risked their lives in WWII to capture the Engima machine, as well as British cryptographers who did most of the work in cracking the codes that played a significant part in the war. It disgusts me that Hollywood can get away with dishonouring the memory of people who were willing to risk (and give) their lives for the freedom of others. I wouldn't mind American actors playing the British roles, but at least acknowledge who the real heroes were.
To all you pro-Americans who think you are better than everyone else: wake up and taste reality. You are not the most important country in the world, God does not bless you exclusively, and you cannot exist independantly from the rest of the world in this day and age. Just because another country doesn't agree with your actions does not mean you should storm off in a huff and refuse to deal with them (e.g. France in the War in Iraq). Go visit some other countries, and you will see that you are no more important than anyone else.
P.S. I have nothing against people being patriotic (I'm British, and damn proud of it), but there is a difference between patriotism and fanaticism.

Within the UK there is an amazing mix of cultures, religions etc, and although there can be quite definite difference of opinions coming from the various communities and nations within the Uk, I feel that there is more that unites, rather than divides us. NFG: you have to admit that they way you put across your opinion was somewhat obnoxious. You might not have intended it that way, but it obviously came across as that to some people. However, I don't feel you deserved to be negged for it, and I must admit that some people are being a bit obnoxious towards you.
The easiest way to get round it is to just ignore it. Yeah, it's hard when people are laying into you, but you have to either toughen up or come back with an exceptionally witty retort (the latter option is preferred, but the former is much easier in general). :)
